Massive respect for all skate ski/cross country skiers. They have huge endurance and pain threshold. Right up there with rowers and wrestlers.

There was an article about Anders Aukland (born on september 12th 1972) from NRK in 2023 (january) when Anders was 50 that talked about his incredible fitness. Here are some details: At 180.5cm (5'11) he weighed 69.5kg (153lbs). That is a BMI of 21.3. 29.2kg(42.0%) was muscle, 6.9kg was fat(9.9%), and 7.1kg was blood (10.2%), and 3kg was bone (4.3%). His heart pumped 4.5l of blood each minute when his pulse was 56bpm. His VO2max was measured at 72.9 mL/(kg·min). Back in 2005 (age 32/33) his VO2max was 88.0 mL/(kg·min). In the deadlift he was able to do 140kg (308lbs), one year earlier he did 150kg (330lbs). In the pullups test he did 26. He was a bit dissatisfied and said he "should've been able to do 30". In a podcast (i det lange løp) he revealed that at age 50 he ran 3000m at 9:15-9:20. His PB from 1994 is 8:02.77, and in 2014 he ran 8:32.51. (In the 5000m his PB is 13:57.6 (1992), and he in 2014 he ran 14:50.08) In this video: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Kbm5AJrrxbM.html& (7:56) you can see that he did 23.27 in a 5k on the treadmill with 10% incline, followed by a 17:45 in a 5k on the ski erg, followed by 7:16 in the 2k on an erg rower. (in 2020) In 2021 he set the world record in longest distance skied, with 700km (435 miles) in 41 hours. He has 4 victories, 8 podiums and 10 top 10 appearances in Birkebeinerrennet (54km), 1 victory, 6 podiums, and 14 top 10 appearances in Vasaloppet (90km), and 2 victories, 5 podiums and 12 top 10 appearances in Marcialonga (70km) He won Birkebeinerrenet at age 40, got second at age 43 and 3rd at age 45. He finnished 5th in Marcialonga at age 46. He finnished 2nd in Vasaloppet at age 42, 7th at age 46, 8th at age 47, and 9th at age 49. He is an absolute legend. I wonder how his fitness will be in 10 years.

From a fellow norwegian who have heard alot of podcast with him and read articels about him. - He`s not better trained (as spoken about in the intro) - he`s not winning races any more, but still contrebute to the team as coach, mentor and traningpartner. He does race though. - Vo2max ha declined alot - hence why he`s not winning anymore races and gets dropped in hill with duration. if i remember correct, he "only" has 78mmol vo2max now :O - he focuses more on the hard zone workouts to try to maintain his Vo2max. - he trains aloooot of strength - focusing on heavy lifts, and some excercise with alot of reps, e.g 10x10 hangups in ca10min. - his strength has improved - making him powerful in the short hills. - His trying this session to adopt the model of Nils van der Poel, 5 days of alot of work and resting 2 days. He`s an EFFINF machine!

How about a story about what happened to Per Elofsson. Impressive results, short career. Did he burn out, was he brought along to quickly, health problems ?
@nordicskiing

Good idea... Per trained so much that it ruined his whole career

He did actually have a pretty "normal" career, for someone who wins races. But he is often remembered for that 2002 olympics, which was dominated by a cheater. He is a great guy!

What is an O2 level of 90? Do you mean VO2 level of 90?

Age crisis, its a decease that hits when you're 50. Hunting for that everlasting youth.

I knew A guy who was running in the mountain as a 94 years old. One day after a trip he fell a sleep in his chair in front of the telly with his slippers on,…Never to wake up again. What a privilege way to live and die.
@SimonTmte
@SimonTmte Год назад
No indication of that, he's not hunting for anything, he has spent his life doing exercise and fitness, and currently at 50 yo he's doing exercise and fitness

VO2 level. Not O2 level.

you can take supplements to build muscle, but the heart wears out and everyone is going to shrivel up and die. pointless to compete past youth.
