@@c1966m I had this issue myself a while ago - so I sent one of my tracks for mastering to see what would happen! It was REALLY helpful as I learned that the track was simply NOT ready to be mastered and got some really useful insights out of it (ie, you see what can and cannot be improved by a master). It was £50 well spent and I have come along a lot since then.

I started producing in 1995, old school Cubase on an Atari, no VST. All hardware. After 5 years of having loads of fun and meeting so many interesting people I moved on. Now I'm in my 50s and love PsyTrance. These videos are incredible, I write music for fun, that should always be the most important thing, success, money, recognition is just a bonus if you're lucky, but I really enjoy the in depth science E-Clip goes into. I just wish I knew then what I do now, my old tracks could have been so much better.

Truth! When I began in 2012 I was just a young teenager with no money, but my creativity was booming and it was very fun. A few years go by and I listen to my songs played in clubs and parties and get very discouraged because my mixes sound bad, and being young with no money meant I couldn't afford to pay someone to do it for me. So begins my journey to get clean and powerful mixes. As you have said you have to learn a LOT of things, not just what the mixing tools do, but also details like the difference between linear phase and zero latency eq, how those affect the sounds differently, when and what to use them on. After learning all that you have to train your ear to hear everything whats going on, and then make decisions... Only this year are my mixes consistently satisfactory. I can't say I regret learning it all though, it's very all interesting to me, the one thing it has hurt is my creativity because I am always mixing as I create. However your video Organizing yourself for the creative moment has pushed me to change my workflow which is working better. Keep making these videos! The people need to know!

I was devastated when I learned about mixing and mastering, I started producing in 2007 and I had no idea about that stuff, i'll never forget those blissful days 🥲 but I agree with you, I love all the technical stuff, just did not know it was going to be this hard and time consuming..

I really can't understand why someone spreads negativity through comments Marko. Unfortunately people don't appreciate the knowledge, and the hard work you offer for free.The only thing they want is free advice on how to be a super star ,or how to produce number 1 hit for beatport.Don't let negativity affect you.You're top class producer and a lot of people appreciate you,your music, and this attempt to educate upcoming or even experienced producers.Because knowledge never stops. Great video once again.All the best from me.Keep it up!

Sve ovo što si naveo je razlog zašto nisam ništa objavio ni završio kako treba svih ovih godina. A učim već 15ak godina sigurno, sam. Možda i neću nikad ništa objaviti, tko zna. Barem ne dok ne budem zadovoljan zvukom. Nisam profesionalac, još manje stručnjak i radim to iz čiste ljubavi i za moj uži krug ljudi. Jedino što me vodi je uho i ništa drugo nemam osim toga. I jednu stvar moram priznati.

Bro, don't hesitate or apologise to ask some money for 'psychedelic tips' or other coming projects. You put a lot of work and energy in it and it is a nice occupation for yourself to see if you can create something other than a track or album. Learning some new skills: like talking on camera, editing video's, sharing complicated information in english in an understandable way. Making some money on it is part of the fun of the whole thing. You are doing a good job for yourself! I never came across a channel that gave so much quality information on producing, for free. If people watched all this and still act like a bunch of ungrateful leeches then it's about time to shake them off. Thanks for all the work, the music and the good times! Wishing you all the best for the future!

Perfectionism kills creativity. I try not to dream about success but to enjoy the process of creation. And i already got more sucess then i ever imagined. The most important thing for musik making is to have a healthy mindset that minimises creative resistance and fear of failure. That works well if its not about money ^^

Marko, thanks to be so honest with us. I purchased Psychedelic tips 1 and 2 and I didn't want to be a top producer or something like that. I'm 47, I've my job but I love electronic music and I would like to create something interesting, but not for the rest of people, just to me, because I love this music and I love to be in front of my computer just enjoying time trying it. So for me what are you doing with these free videos in your RU-vid channel and Psychedelic tips is amazing. You're trying to explain us how works this complicated world, so I just want to thank you a lot all you're doing.

Great video. I had to stop making music just so I can relearn how to listen. I would make that the one of the first things to learn. How to listen and identify like a sculptor sculpting clay. Become one with the clay and then the portal is open and the creative energy connection with our divinity makes up for any other perceived lack. :) I also stopped making music for the purpose of sale so that I can truly be myself and let that come through. I am a creative person as far as music goes, yet my productions sound dated and the energy was less than the current expecting listener. Your kick and bass tut's have helped me a lot. Thank you.

Strong and true video. I think , the path you talk about... the path did choose you not you did choose the path. I have many friends , they produce music , some of them rather good , some of them have infinte creativity but rather weak technical aspect. I started making music a 5-6 years ago and just wanted to have some fun , i wasnt even listening to electronic music , i just wanted to have fun. But the interest , to know every technique , just those little things , is an addiction. Im not somewhere near my peak i want to reach , i dont know if this peak exists. But I enjoy exploring and learning all those techniques , like u offer on Psychedelic Tips , im the first one to buy and i watch those things for years , over and over again , because u learn something new each single time. I would love to make money with all this , im sure i will find my neche to go for , even if not as an artist. But the point is , i love the technical world and thats why i cant stop and wont stop. Of course it is hard , and of course there is no secret weapon , u are a moron if u think there is. The only thing that makes u great at something is unbreakable endless passion for what u do , no matter the fame or money u can earn from it , u do it , because u want to do and u have the will no matter what.

@drdubs8934
@drdubs8934 3 года назад
@@EClipChannel And this is a great answer . I totally agree with you. Im lucky to learn from you since Psychedelic Tips Vol 1 on gumroad released , as when u started making music there was no internet , there was no psychedelic tips. This is an great advantage , as it allows us to learn so much faster what a "great mix" is. Of course , the ears , the understanding u cant learn the fast way. This is where passion comes in , and also a bit of maniac , because u do a TON of work for 5 Soundcloud plays. But ur knowledge allows people like me , to iterate from it , to grow and build other ways or mix up techniques i learned in some neurofunk tutorial on youtube.I dont know if there is a limit if u combine modern technique and creativity.Its hard but its possible.That is so awesome.

I think that different ganres require different skill set. For example when I practice bass music and the "usual" edm ganres it was much easier then now when I retured to my passion which is Psytrance. I think and believe that good and complex Psytrance music is just an extremely hard ganre to master in all that is required to be able to create amazingly hypnotizing sounding tracks like the big artis are making (such as Astrix, Bliss, Infected mushroom etc...). As someone who have listened to Psytrance since I can remember myself and only at the age of 24 years old realized that to produce this music is something that I want to do in my life, I want to thank you Eclip. You are a true individual, that I can sence and see that have a lot to give to people and is doing it in a very unique and individualistic way. Greetings from Israel brother,🙌 Hope to see you perform here or in another place one day and maybe even get to the point in which collaboration is possible! Maybe in a 15 years ah?😜

I kind of "wasted" a part of my youth playing in bands that never went anywhere and when I turned 30 I retired. However, a few years later I discovered Psytrance and was consumed with an irrepressible desire to start creating again - I already knew "how music works" but had never used a DAW before. I spent pretty much all of last summer locked away making tracks that hardly anybody will ever hear and yet, I don't think I have much of a choice! If I don't get this energy out, it just stays in my body and keeps my awake at night!

I have been producing actively for 4 years now and I came to the conclusion that there is indeed three secret formulas for good music: Time, patience, and a strong power of will. Not getting decent results even after 4 years, being frustrated about it etc. Is part of every of my producing sessions. But somehow I keep going and learning. If I listen to the music I did one year back I think "what the hell is this" and I am sure I will think the same in one year about the music I produce now. I'd say I know a thing or two about music production, but I am constantly reminded that I know indeed very little and that my path has just begun. Honestly, this is a video every producer shoud watch and it is good to encurage beginners. I can't tell oftne enough how much I appreciate that you want to share your knowledge with everyone. I started working in audio engineering back in the 1990s. But despite that knowledge I still had a huge amount to learn to even have a label consider my tracks. E-Clip is 100% spot on, but don't be put off. If you break down every little task, say for driving a car, it would seem overwhelming. The secret here is what he said about countless hours in the studio. If you are passionate and enjoy the little details, then even in a few months you'll progress. I only used zero latency and linear phase on my EQ for the first year, not really understanding when to use natural phase, or even what they meant. That's the fun part in my opinion. Learning the details. Oh and the plugins! Adding a reverb? If only it were as simple as using Valhalla.... or is it? :)

Think there might be some talented producers they learn really fast but the majority needs much more time. I produce serious since 2013 and i'm still not happy with the outcome. It takes so much time to learn all of it but for me it is worth because i love what i do and i have a half time job. And as more music you make as higher your self expectations will be because you ears are getting better much faster as your production. Thank you for your honesty, for me its the best production content on youtube. What i would love is an uncutted project from you, no other does that and i think it would help alot of people to watch the full process with WOW moments and fails. I would pay for it :)

I have been learning general production/music-making, rather than just been stuck with a few formulas for psytrance. I am gonna reveal some of the track in different genres soon. And that will be another tutorial, that if you do several genres, it helps a lot to make a progress.

AMAZING!! The harsh and honest truth!! You really have to be aware of the hard path and the commitment if you are a new producer as most people have no idea . Ive been producing and study production in and out for the past 20 years and in the past five in a more consintent way. I really think most peaple have no idea of the knowledge involved to to a superior sounding track. I was never brave enough to release anything as sound wise my songs were never good enough at least for me. I have a totally different line of business and never depended nor intended to depend on music for a living as some people intend to do. Having said that i was fortunate enough to have someone who invite me to participate in a compilation for a well known label wich is due soon. Even so there will be a mix done by a well known professional. As a new producer you should really be aware of what it takes to get there. Looking forward for your video about promotion and carear which is the other big and probably the most important thing if you wana be a musician. By the way your tutorials are awesome as your inspiring music. Big thanks

Of course, I believe that people feel relieved when they realise that not only they are struggling about the same thing. It feels nice to hear that others are going through the same pain. I remember when I spoke with Zen Mechanics about Kick&Bass frustration when he said to me: "It's a frustration with no end mate"

@@EClipChannel yes, this K&B thing never satisfies me. I know that feeling, all we know i guess :D. Also felt relieved, that it's not me a loser, a guy without talent, a bad musician etc. It's just fucking hard way to create amazing track and amazing mix which frustrates you,

The secret is there is no secret, just hard work and knowing how music production works. I agree mastering should be left to professionals when making music for commercial use- movies/tv/labels/etc. But most of us are not career professional musicians that need that. Any good DAW has enough mastering tools for the non career musician to make very good sounding tracks, if they take some time to learn some of the mastering craft.

Thank you for your wise words. I agree with you from a pure production perspective paying people to do the aspects that take time works out. The other perspective to trying to do as much yourself is that if you're looking for a career in music being as versatile as you can be can lead to many other opportunities. My journey was to play the bongos which lead to gigs (income) then I wanted to learn notation of the rhythms which led me to start teaching (income) then I wanted to make my own music so started with Ableton to release my tracks (income) then started to learn mixing which I'm not very good at but it meant I knew my way around a mixing desk at studios (income) then I learnt online marketing (income) that lead to video creation (income) now people have seen I can do all this I work for a music charity and I'm funded (income). It's because of all these long processes that as someone like me that has NO qualifications at all you can have a career in music. So few people make any money just from releasing music now that I'm not sure how realistic it is. I know classically trained musicians that are working for Amazon deliveries because they didn't go through the pain you describe and diversify. I also think the pain you went through is the reason I'm sitting here watching YOUR video and not others. I think the pain is worth it. I agree though it's a long path.

Thanks a lot for this video, it's amazing to hear someone with your level of skills and experience talking about how he walked through this path. BUT! I think "Into The Void" is one of the best produced and mixed psytrance albums ever, I can't believe you weren't happy with mixing on this one. Honestly, to me it sounds better than "modern" very clean psytrance sound.
@EClipChannel
@EClipChannel 3 года назад
It is because the tracks are good, and probably the stule suits you, and because you like it it doesnt matter how ot sounds. I don’t say it is a terible mixed, but it is not even close to the level I can do today. But also that wasn’t a point, the point was that I was mixing it for a long long long time, with this i wanted to pass the amount mh of frustration it created while dooing it.
@recursionloop9304
@recursionloop9304 3 года назад
@@EClipChannel Sure, the tracks are great, the melodies, the grooves, the sounds and all, but I mean specifically mixing and mastering, it has THAT sound to me. I actually have the tracks from that album as my mixing references. I'm not a great mixer myself yet, but I have a treated room and decent monitors so I think I can hear most of the subtle details. I realize your skills and your style have evolved since then but I do think that album was close to perfection (even where some lead may sound too loud or too harsh, or where there's an occasional distortion in mastering this just adds to the overall awesomeness imo)

I would say overall just without even thinking about it, the way to make a really amazing track, you put together like 10 different baselines, that work with the track, and then you pick the one out of all ten thats works the best and then do that with each of the other parts, now I'm not saying you can't sit down and create a amazing loop by throwing in sounds and quickly using your ear, but if you're really trying to make an amazing track taking the time to make sure each part is absolutely amazing in my mind would only make sense.
