I hope this video wasn't too "technical"! I genuinely believe that you can be successful no matter which Bible memory technique you use and I'd love to hear what yours is - comment below! And be sure to download the Bible Memory app: www.biblememory.com

My friend this advise is pure gold. 10 years ago when I started my bible memory journey there was almost no guidance. I just jumped into the deep end and starting using the Bible Memory App. It was life changing in and of itself. Listening to this and seeing additional tools to enhance the use of the app is genuinely next level and definitely would be a benefit. I just hope ppl watch this and grasp how truly genius it is. I hate the time I wasted memorizing bible verses said no one ever!

I had an idea; it's as old as the hills: much like memorizing music to play it perfectly, you have to go over it until you polish it for performance. This is much like memorizing a movie script. It takes development in these higher faculties, yet it reminds me of a speech we had to memorize for speech class. I read it verbatim five times everyday just like I would practice my piano lessons as a kid!!! Only had 5 days and I was called upon to give my speech first. I thought, no way, I'm toast! I know I adked God for help and began and it just kept coming and unfolding as it was something I could relate to!!! It wasn't long before I was acting it and went clear through the speech verbatim!!! I impressed the teacher and myself!!! Of course outlining and writing in shorthand and, or longhand also helps this as it requires over 10,000 movements of your writing that recotds it to memory. Of course using Baroque Music in the background connects both hemispheres of your brain so you can learn new knowledge!!! Now it takes a commitment and work ethic along with discipline to finish up!!!❤

A good video as usual Josh. Thank you. Nice formula, not too technical. To be honest, when I was younger I used almost exclusively rote, now that I am not as young, I have learned the advantages of using all these wonderful tools to memorize. I find these tools are like many hooks that the verse(s) hang on, the more tools I use, the more hooks that hold that verse(s) in my head so to speak. For me that makes recall much easier and also helps with "connections." If that makes sense.

Great analogy, Mark, and so very true.
@SingTheBible

Excellent Josh - one very important addition. The music method when used properly is both passively echoic (when only listening) but also actively echoic (when we sing the words out loud) - I always encourage everyone to SING THE BIBLE not just listen to it. One of most common commands in the entire Bible is to sing! The activity of singing incorporates many more parts of the brain and also engages the haptic method by using the lungs, tongue, vocal chords, vibrations through the skull and body etc. Finally, when Scripture is set to music it is not only melody (and as you indicate sometimes rhyme - I work very hard to find rhyming words within each verse or passage) but also rhythm is both haptic and echoic. Some that write Scripture to music do not employ rhythm. I use many types of rhythms as well as frequent changes of time signature (3/4 and 4/4 create an entirely different "feel") pacing, grouping of words (by way of textual/melodic framing), minor and major keys and, on occasion, employ some of the distinct divergent music modes used in Western music: Ionian, Dorian, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, and Locrian. Their characteristics evoke different emotions. Finally, when music is properly employed it is important to understand the brain research that shows how the brain "lights up" in anticipation when music reaches a climax and denouement and awaits the musical event .... fascinating ...... see the research from Stanford on this here - med.stanford.edu/news/all-news/2007/07/music-moves-brain-to-pay-attention-stanford-study-finds.html Blessings! Your concepts are great. However, as a cognitive scientist for 40+ years, I have to disagree with the idea that your memory is contained by Neurons! The brain is a Transducer not a hard-drive. Memory is pure software, it is not physical whatsoever. If your brain neurons accounted for Memory, your head would be 10 stories tall and larger than Texas to hold enough physical neurons to explain Memory Containment! Did you seriously, as a Christian, believe all you learned and know is going to rot along with the human-body when we die?! Otherwise, excellent work. The best way to improve memory, is simply not to rely on it! :) May the Lord bless you!
@johnf5927
@johnf5927 6 месяцев назад
Software only works if you have a place to store it - so the question is yes neurons aren’t storage units but it still needs to be stored - software will not work if it doesn’t have a place were the coding can be stored. Also, a method that was not talked about was the infamous “ link Method “ - and the more funny, creative and outrageous you make the links the better you can remember.

@@johnf5927 True John, a CD ROM may have a 5000 dollar software program or App (sigh) burned on it, but it weighs no more than a blank CD. Point being that INFO is Abstract and does exist outside of the CD Player... LOL, I used that mnemonic many times in college! But that is just making salient Tags which stand outside of a normal schema or script for a generic activity. They work to a degree! But this man is talking about a method of building better Retrieval Cues, as what we comprehend IS in our memory, but pulling it back out through the Cache or "Librarian" that buffers between subconscious storage and active cognition, is the goal. But LOL, the infamous link method or what we called Tagging, sure brought back memories! (And they were not made of brain neurons!)

@@t-bonewtf LOL, I suppose I am. So, is Dr. John Lennox, a triple PhD, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at Oxford. A Christian and a Scientist. If you wanted to really find out what is Truth and what is a lot of man-made crap (for religion IS crap), then would you consider a mind like his? Or how about Dr. Chuck Missler, the late CEO/Chairman of Western Digital as well as 12 of America's largest defense contractors who invented the guided missile? A Christian and a pastor. I have enjoyed using something similar to a memory palace to memorize chapters and books. I was also hesitant to use ridiculous images to help memorize verses. I draw the line at words like God and Jesus Christ. For those I imagine a theta symbol for God and different versions of the chi rho symbol for the different variations of Jesus Christ (Christ Jesus, just Christ and just Jesus). That way it stays respectful. Thanks for the video, Josh. Keep it up!

I like your sensory input approach. The 3 days of arrangement connect with the following 3 days of adornment in the Old Creation Week in a way that involves sensory input. Day 1 arranges for light in the darkness whereas Day 4 adorns the light with lamps, or Menorahs (the sun, moon, and other luminaries. Light gives us sensory input through the eyes, so I like to call days 1 & 4 the metaphorical "eyes" of creation week. Can anyone here tell me how days 2 and 5, then 3 and 6 are connected and in which sensory input domain?

The True Gospel in True Revival ! Realize you are a sinner being sorry. Sin is lying, evil thoughts, lust,etc. Therefore, do not trust in your own works to go to heaven because you realize, being a sinner, you cannot offer the perfect blood sacrifice that God requires to pay for sin. Instead, believe, meaning fully trust, that in Christ's love for you, on the cross, His one perfect blood sacrifice, when Christ bled, suffered and died, in your place, paid for your sins in full, past, present and future ! Believe that Jesus rose from the dead ! Believe Jesus is God Almighty, God the Son, alive for evermore ! And believe that the sinless blood of Jesus Christ is what cleanses you from all sin, which purifies your soul ! Then the Lord Jesus will forgive you,save you from hell and give you eternal life ! And you will be sealed with the Holy Spirit who will dwell within you forever! And thank Jesus ! Rom.3:25,5:8,9,10:9, Is.53:5,6, II Cor.5:21, Ephes.1:7,13,4:30, Heb.10:14,38,39, I John 1:7, 5:7,13,20

Dear brother, The Bible must not be read as knowledge book. But read in Spirit. God is Spirit. He will remind you His word at the appointed time. Knowledge kills. But spirit gives life. Those who have ears let them hear what the Holy Spirit says...
@BibleMemoryGoal
@BibleMemoryGoal 6 месяцев назад
Yikes! For those reading my response, please always be wary of anybody who claims to speak for the Holy Spirit. It's a dangerous thing to do (or listen to). I agree that the Bible is more than a "knowledge book" and what you say here sounds very spiritual, but unfortunately it's not Biblical. That should be reason enough for you to consider memorizing, shouldn't it? "Worshippers must worship in Spirit and in truth." (John 4:24) = it's not just Spirit, it's also truth. More importantly, however, since we are to follow Jesus' example, he memorized and quoted Scripture multiple times (most notably Matthew 4). Was that an example of "knowledge kills"? The Holy Spirit can't "remind" us of something that we haven't studied and know.

I totally understand why you would think that. Have you considered the impossibility of over 40 different people, over 16 hundred years could write a book that has a beginning and an ending with a main theme that runs through all the books, a coming Messiah. With hundred of predictive verses that actually came true? That’s why Peter said that we have not followed cunningly devised fables… man can make up some really creative stories, but the Bible is a miracle that it exists when you consider how it came to be. If you understand human nature, it really hard to explain the Bible away as just a fairy tail. Even when life doesn’t make since with loved ones dying or suffering or depression, disappointments, etc. I can’t get past the miracle that is the Bible. And that’s why we memorize it. Because we actually believe it! Hope that helps you friend!

Thank you for your impute@@t-bonewtf . Actually the Bible is not a book. It’s 66 individual books written over an approx 1600 year period for example in in Deuteronomy 18:18, God told Moses that he would send a prophet like Moses “…and will put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall command him.” That was 1300 years before that promise would be fulfilled in Jesus. And here it is…John 12:49 “For I have not spoken of myself; but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak.” There are hundreds and maybe thousands of things like this in scripture. If it was silly, you would not have a congruency like this through the whole of all these books.
