Hi! Seiza, or kneeling for a long time is hard! When you wear a kimono, there's no other way to sit. BUT, we always find a way! Let's find out how we survive.
One hour? Amazing! I’m working on sitting for just 15 minutes. It’s not about pain for me. The problem is that I lose all circulation and my feet go completely numb. To the point that when I finally have to get up I can’t because I just can’t feel my limbs.
I've always wondered, is it considered disrespectful or rude if you cannot kneel? I have a problem with my knees which means i cant kneel like that under any circumstances, otherwise i could end up at the hospital. I worry that this might affect my future trip tp Japan. Is it ok to sit with my legs at the side or cross legged?
Hi CurlyHorns, I'm sorry I've missed your comment for such a long time. The answer is no need to kneel if you can't. Crossing legs is completely fine and the goal of tea ceremony is to have a good and relaxing time and you should not torture yourself :) So, please feel easy when you visit Japan and hopefully join us!
