That only applies if your type of fun is deemed acceptable by the NPCs. It’s an uphill battle because npcs are rotten stuck up white knighting easily offended pricks and they are the majority. @User 1234 As an introvert, it can be challenging to feel confident and interesting in social situations. However, there are several ways you can work on improving your social skills and be more engaging in group settings: Look for topics or activities that you and your group members are interested in. This could be anything from sports to movies, or even food. If you share common interests, it's easier to engage in conversations and activities. For my group, we discovered that only half of us enjoy going to the club, but everyone enjoys a good game of Monopoly. So now, games like Monopoly and Uno are quite common during our group meetings. Even if your interests don't align with your group members, it's still worth sharing your passions. Talk about what you love and why you find it interesting. You might be surprised by how receptive others are to your enthusiasm. Again, the Monopoly example. Turns out, all of us were interested in it, but nobody decided to ask because they were afraid of rejection. Luckily, we had one common friend recommend It to us. If you're not sure what to say, ask questions. People love talking about themselves, and it's an excellent way to get to know others. Ask about their hobbies, interests, and experiences. This is also a great way to start a conversation. I always ask my friends how they are doing. The key is to be genuenly interested. People can sense if you don't really care. Pay attention to what others are saying, and show an interest in their stories. Ask follow-up questions and provide feedback. Active listening is an essential skill for building relationships. If your conversation becomes only questions and answers, then it feels like an interview. Maybe you have a story that relates to your conversation. If your friend did something that made him feel proud congratulate him. If you are talking about your dream vacation, be open and involved. Show that you care. Don't try to be someone you're not. Embrace your personality and quirks, and others will appreciate your authenticity. This is THE most important thing. If you need to pretend that you are someone you actually aren't, you won't have any fun. Surrounf yourself by people that know you, and that appreciate you for who you truly are. Remember, being interesting isn't about being the life of the party. It's about being yourself, engaging in conversations and activities that you enjoy, and building genuine connections with others. Changes don't happen overnight. They take time. For me, it took years before I noticed real changes. What's important is to remain steadfast on your path, and to know what your desired result looks like.

On the point about trying jokes, even if they don't land, people will quickly forget the ones that don't land if you just move on. So if you say three jokes and people only laugh at one of them, they will still think you are a funnier person than the person who makes no joke at all.

Usually when my joke bombs, I sincerely ask to let me try that again and tell it differently for sure it will bomb again. Then I say welp we'll find it eventually, usually this gets a laugh. However, if the conversation continues and goes another direction, I try to relink my first joke attempt to that new conversation. You already created a story of relevance within the interaction returning to the familiar. The worst way this can fail is they laugh at all your failed attempts but since you orchestrated it, it will come out as you are making fun of yourself. However, in most cases relinking the first joke to another conversation creates a fun story telling technique and makes everyone feel involved.

This is interesting however, although some jokes can be easy to learn, being funny isn't really something that you can just show to people and then expect them to be able to replicate it. Comedy is so much more than simple jokes. There are things like timing, setup, gauging your audience, etc. When you're actually trying to be a comedian after receiving some instruction like this video can provide, most of the time everyone else is laughing, you hope, while you're working. That work can be quite taxing and may require serious concentration and technical expertise. That really isn't fun for the performer. If you are naturally funny it's a gift. One that does require a certain amount of structure but in general, you're having a good time while you are just being you trying to make people laugh, which is a very good goal is have. Good luck to all who want to give it a try. You have my admiration and well wishes.

UK talk shows are longer format than the 4-6 minute interviews US late shows. And they are more conversational and improv-based than the scripted spiels the actors say in the US shows. The UK shows allow more of someone's personality, and therefore charisma, to come through. They also do more group interviews, like Graham Norton, so we see more of actors riffing off each other than we'd ever see in the US.

It drives me nuts and usually ruins the "one second pause before the punchline" because it screws up the timing, which is everything with humour. The worst is when I pause before the punchline and someone tries to be funny with the wrong (IMO less funny) punchline and the whole set-up gets deflated. In other words how do I tell someone in front of other people to "LET ME FINISH" without shouting let me finish when they interrupt or talk over me?

you can use your body language to specify that you are not finished, like 1. holding a an index finger and waiting for everyone to focus on it and then bringing it down when you are finished. 2. or double-down on the joke by repeating the line said by the person in a funny way which makes sure that you are not joking on their expense but also lets them know not to interrupt them in future.

You probably sound like you are trailing off. Try saying you last few words louder right before the pause. People will probably realize your thought is not over yet. Cheers!

Reading through the comments, I see quite a few where people are sharing the things they do, many of which go against the advice in the video. I have a few thoughts...just my opinion... Not everyone can pull off the same joke or action. What works for one may not work for another, for various reasons. The audience matters as well. A final thought on this: "Stealing" someone else's material (whether the joke itself, the pattern, a facial expression, w/e) can be seen as extremely bad form. People tend to be polite (or at least they should). Anyone who has difficulty discerning between genuine laughter & other types (polite, awkward, forced, etc) may want to look into ways to enhance their skill or to compensate. Anyone who ranks above their audience (a boss, elder, more popular person, etc) rarely should assume that they can "always tell" when someone's being fake. Another common situation is trying to spare someone's feelings, pretending they're funny or have "made a good save" after a bombed joke. ...or they just may desperately want it to be over. Acting sheepish & apologetic, getting the sympathy laugh or a kind smile is rarely the best goal to pursue. Perhaps let it go, switch the focus, allow/encourage someone else into the spotlight to move things along? I'm sure this channel (& others) have better ideas than mine. Not everyone likes extreme humor. Not everyone likes all types of humor. Not everyone likes your type of humor. Know what kind of humor they like? THEIR type of humor. The kinds that make them laugh (when others besides you deliver them). Uncomfortable laughter can easily get TOO uncomfortable. Might want to read the room when dragging out the oooo stinky & naughty naughty jokes, slapstick, or the snooty pretentious stuff...or anything controversial &/or wherein you're being a jackass to someone else. Watch for body language, stolen glances, wry smiles, side conversations....& know who you can trust to truthfully, but kindly, lyk what's not working as well as you might have hoped. If there isn't someone, perhaps spend some social time looking for people who'll not just support, but appreciate you ☮

Honestly, I can pull this off np, but how are people that are shy or insecure going to able to do this? Does it not incolve a certain "status" in a "known" group? (I wont do if I am in a new group of people)

Honestly, when your goto jokes are puns as corny as farmers markets in Iowa, you get used to people not laughing pretty quick. But it's a great skill to work on for state breaks.
