Thanks for your sincerity on teaching us how to swing naturally with impact and distance. I am a firm believer on this.

Finally, a golf instructor focused on swinging the club with the arms... !!! I love it.

This is such an important video, John. Clears This is such an important video, John. Helps to remind me, what‘s really going on. Sometimes one is lost by all the videos of body movements etc., so one forget the importance of the arms and hands. Thanks a lot.

Excellent advise Mr. Dunigan! Since I started relaxing my grip, wrists, and forearms my consistency and solid ball striking is amazing. I even implemented your recommended wrist hinge which I really like! Always enjoy and learn from your videos Dunigan.

So much of what you teach applies to me. I have been afraid to actually use the arms in the manner you describe. The tension I have been feeling in arms, shoulders and in my hands has been something I have felt for years. Now working on exactly what you describe in this video and it is so comfortable and makes so much sense. No wonder young kids can hit further than a grown man, because I don't see tension as they physically cant grip as hard as a grown man, and therefore the club must be swinging more freely. Thanks again for this help.

Right again, J.D.! Effortless power beats power with effort all day. Tempo and rhythm trump exertion, especially for us relics. 😄

The truth comes out. I’ve played the last couple days after watching your video about club head awareness and I already am more confident. Then I watched this video and my eyes opened even wider. I saw a short video by Bryson the other day and he said exactly the same thing. Pull your right arm down before you turn. The one area I need to work on is right arm “awareness” as I’m a lefty who plays right handed.

There was real gold that we overlooked as too simple...Now that we have some hard golf science, it takes quite a lot of understanding to make it that simple once again.

Coming from a baseball guy, these tips are legit, not too complex but it doesn’t have to be, make your swing your own

I love your swing especially at the top when you hitch just slightly at the top from wide to narrow. I find thats where the speed and lag comes from. Your thoughts.

There is something to be said for giving the butt of the club a little pull away from you and away from the target at the start down that helps add speed.

Pulling through the ball with the lead arm?
@steveperry1344

john, the loose relaxed arms really helped, i've gotten too caught up in the rotational type swing and not swinging the arms as much and for a 72 yr old this is better, thnx.

My take: the movement of the body is not incidental, it is essential; rather: the movement of the arms is incidental :) What Jack Nicklas said ought to be clarified imo: What you feel in your hands is created by the inertia of the club in motion. You do not manipulate with the hands. The handle is thrown unto your fingers by the inertia of the club, giving you a specific feel. This feel is a feedback of how your club is moving. In essence: - next to holding the club, the only function of your hands/fingers is to FEEL. - next to holding contact with the ground, the only function of the big toes(feet) is to perform a very specific interaction with the ground - proper posture is needed to connect the toes with the fingers. Consequently, I am striking the ball with these anticipations: what do I need to feel in my hands, how do I need to use the bones of my toes and am I in proper posture throughout. All this melts together in 'swing'. ( without ANY leverage)

Gonna have to disagree whole heartedly with your statements. But whatever works for you. All forces and torques on the club must go through the hands. Period.
@wordclouds2906
@wordclouds2906 2 года назад
@@JohnDunigan John, don't post this online. But the argument 'Period' is just dumb, as is 'wholeheartedly'. I agree with what you are teaching, but I have the impression, that you do not understand physics or biomechanics ('all torques must go through the hands' ??? - that is below par, John). Each one of us can always improve understanding. Sorry for disturbing your little shell. It won't happen again.

john, how do i know if i'm on the correct plane when i swing like too flat or too upright?
@JohnDunigan
@JohnDunigan 2 года назад
Steve, too flat and you'll have real problems with contact. Too steep and you'll hit pulls and slices.

Effortless power is a result of relaxation & no tension in the body. Probably the hardest part of the swing because it can't be taught.

All is great UNTIL.....I put the damn ball in front of me. My nice rhythmic swing becomes a complete wreck with the ball going nowhere or everywhere.
@JohnDunigan

remember your job is to get the airplane (club) to land in the right spot, the CLUB will hit the ball. Keep your attention on your job and let the club take care of business for you.
