I sometimes remove the rads but I was on a job with my mate and he got the plumber out to take rads off and he had an absolute nightmare. Took him most the day as he ended up draining the system and replacing old corroded valves. Made me think twice about removing them in future.

When a heavier coat of skim is required on rougher backgrounds like this I find Board Finish pretty useful as it's that bit more rugged than multi, slightly bigger aggregate grain in it, fills in better I've found and still a great polished finish 👍 Nice work though mate
@xPlantpoTx

Totally agree on a bad dry wall. Board finish fills in much better than multi.

Thanks for this. I've been watching your videos as a near beginner as I have lath and plaster walls to fix. I've bought the 1m fibreglass reinforcing and blue grit based on your other videos. In the other videos you've highlighted the importance of timing. Now I'm worried as you have 2 coats of SBR on and still went full speed. I won't be capable of being fast. Am I taking the blue grit back and putting on 3x coats of SBR, or will 2 coats of BG do the job? A spatula isn't cheap, using a trowel will slow me down even more, add in applying the reinforcing and it now feels like a perfect storm on timing. Is it feasible? Thanks for the videos, they've helped loads.

Hi Alex. I love your channel. I use sika SbR a bit on different things it's a great product. Did you leave the SBR dry before skimming or just tacky?
@AlexMorleyPlastering

Just left it for a bit. SBR dries very fast so it’s not such a big deal.

Magic mix as in the smart mix for the first and second coat? Or hardball mixed in with the multi?
@waynenixon729

Think Martin means a few handfuls of Bonding thrown in with the Multi finish. I was going to ask the same question. Gives it more body.. I'm sure Alex has used it before and done a video about it... I remember watching it! 🙂

I do admire your workmanship and your videos, leaving skirting on is okay but not the radiator, been to a few jobs where the radiator was left on and it doesn’t look great. One tip , always ask your self , what if the owner of the house decides to change the radiator position? It is a simple skill to learn and charge the customer for removing and rehanging the radiator. Cheers
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot Год назад
Have you ever had a radiator valve let by? My plumber mate came out to remove a rad and had an absolute nightmare with it, let alone a plasterer fucking about with it. The onus is on the client to think ahead with regards to different rads and or getting a plumber involved
@AlexMorleyPlastering
@AlexMorleyPlastering Год назад
Unfortunately the comment below is exactly why we don’t. Not only that our PL doesn’t cover us for water damage. Many years ago I had a weld break on a radiator, it took our to fix and a costly one. The homeowner was given the option of using a plumber we have on call to take it, off they didn’t as they thought they could get it off. We only found out when we turned up to plaster that it was still on. “The rest they say…..is their problem” 😂😂😂
@michaelbennison82
@michaelbennison82 Год назад
It does look rough when ya look down a radiator that hasn't been removed. Touch wood I've never had a problem loosening the valve very slightly, dropping it to the floor, then nipping it up.
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot
@NiktheEnglishGreekCypriot 5 месяцев назад
@@michaelbennison82them get the client to remove it for Christ sake. It’s not the plasterers responsibility to get a plumber in out of his price. And who stands above a rad and looks down it, answer is nobody does

I picked up on that you said you put the second coat on thick🤔 so how thick can you go with thistle on 1st and 2and coat if you have it.? Great video
@AlexMorleyPlastering
@AlexMorleyPlastering Год назад
you can probably apply multi finish at around 4mm thick with a bit of practice and still maintain a good finish. ideally it should be 2-3mm on the first coat and 1-2mm on the second coat on normal walls.

Alex can I use SBR after wallpaper has been removed to prime the left over wallpaper glue? And then skim onto the SBR?
@AlexMorleyPlastering
@AlexMorleyPlastering Год назад
SBR or PVA would work fine. Wallpaper glue isn’t a major deal. It doesn’t effect the plaster holding on the wall.

Would it be a good idea to use stabilising solution first to walls like this before sbr if time is not of the essence? Great video. Got a few rooms to do soon like this.
@AlexMorleyPlastering
@AlexMorleyPlastering 8 месяцев назад
Wouldn’t make much difference tbh as stabiliser is used for sealing the walls when they are chalky rather than porous. I noticed you have commented on several videos. Thanks for the support on the channel in watching the content. It’s much appreciated.

@@AlexMorleyPlastering Thanks very much for your reply Alex, very much appreciated. Yes I have a few rooms where when I Stripped the paper the thin whitish plaster came off with it and has gone back to the sand/cement scratch coat.. It is dusty as hell even after hoovering.. So my plan was to stabilise it first.. Then sbr to try to help.. I'm a multi trade so not my full time thing so having people like yourself sharing your skills and knowledge is extremely valuable and helpful. You do make it look dreadfully easy though mate.. Breathable walls is necessary for walls with no cavity. Not the case with modern building. Also Multi finish is not considered a breathable product. You would need lime plaster for that.

What are you on about, probably 80% of jobs have skirting/architrave on unless you’re doing new builds or complete rip outs. And did you not listen to why the rad is on, it’s not the plasterers job to organise a plumber to come out. And with regards to taking it off yourself, good luck when the valves are old and it lets by
