But only if he managed to get in the country if he wasn't born here. . From the Middle East not white doesn't speak English or if he does should speak better to be understood by them. Long ad nauseum list
I grew up in the church, and I figured out at a young age that Christians don't follow the bible, they get the bible to follow them, through that magic of interpretation.
@@undrwatropium3724 Hi. SO, that's the tie-in here‼️🤔😳 Lets nail down 🔨 the definition of PERFECTION........ So, God is PERFECT⁉️ God is PERFECT and that means Gods IMAGE is PERFECT and ANYTHING God creates in his PERFECT IMAGE would have to be PERFECT‼️ So, then ALL humans are PERFECT‼️ But now, lets reverse the above. Humans are NOT PERFECT. Then Gods IMAGE they were CREATED in is NOT PERFECT and finally God himself could not be PERFECT‼️ The first option God and humans are PERFECT doesn't seem right looking at the strife and suffering in the world 🌎. The second option is God and humans are NOT perfect but humans are progressing towards perfection as the world is much less brutal than before and God being NOT perfect is basically useless and therefore doesn't exist in literal terms (only in storytelling)‼️😳😬
Good grief, I am enjoying my Buddhist teaching. I do my best as far I have the courage and discipline but I don't blame the Buddhist teaching itself in the end.
there are people out here who are not christian fascists, yes. and people who just aren't christian. but fascists are usually christian. and christianity fairly would perfectly meet the definition of fascism if it was a government: fascism: a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.
They must've never heard of Christianity then because I live in the Bible belt for 50 years and all I've EVER seen (especially working in customer service) is judgemental, hypocritical, hateful, entitled Christians. Religion is Prison for your mind and spirit and a weapon in the hands of oppressors. Teaching children that they are evil, worthless sinners is straight up abusive. How are kids going to navigate life believing they're worthless and evil????? Why do Christians not tip their waitress? They leave fake money Bible tracts instead. FQ and F CHRISTIANS. evil people that you are. Oh and racist
Mrs. Betty Bowers gesturing with her gloved hands is masterful. And it looks like one long take without edits. Flawless. Thank goodness I'm not living in Florida.

Wow, can I identify with this! At 11 years old I was sent to Lutheran catechism where I was told that all my questions would be answered. I brought questions for them to answer. The answer was always the same; gods are mysterious and we must simply except their wisdom. Faith. The one thing I couldn’t accept. I walked into catechism full of the spirit and they destroyed it. They said I was too young and that I should return when I was ready. That was in the 1960s and I’ve never been back. Gods aren’t real. Oh and that children’s Bible… the cover! A picture on the wall in this church showed Jesus looking whiter than I am and there’s no such thing.
LOL! That's used in most Christian denominations, often worded differently, when being asked an inconvenient question, "God works in mysterious ways..." George Carlin made jokes about that when he talked about growing up Catholic. For a set of religions that have been around for so long, you'd think they would hash out a FAQ list with answers to turn to in inconvenient situations like those 🤣
I'd bet a nickel (but no more, long boring story about slot machines) you went to a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church. Or Wisconsin. Very conservative and if the Bible's inconvenient find another text. The most "liberal" Lutheran church is the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America. One of our foundations is that we don't know everything.
"God works in mysterious ways" is basically the equivalent of an author saying "a wizard did it" to explain away any plot holes or contradictions in their story.
Started reading the bible when I was 15, hoping to get an in with the Christian girl I was crushing on. I didn’t make it through Genesis, stopping at the rape of Dinah story. If she was willing to give a “right on!” to this story, she wasn’t worth pursuing.
Speaking as an Episcopal priest, I can tell you that I have seen it all too often . . . generally on the internet. Happily, the people I actually know still seem interested in listening. But, political trends suggest to me that you have a larger listening pool than I do. So, Preach it. Sister!
I wonder what made you become a priest and why you cling to these ancient and debunked myths? I am an atheist and am yet to be presented with any compelling, objective evidence for god.
Preacher: Episcopal Priest huh? The 21st Century will eventually force you guys to admit the fraud and deception. Today you're fooling fewer and fewer people with all your robes, funny hats, censer, weird incantations... It's only a matter of time before people wake up and say: "Why did we believe that crap for so long?"
@@mort8143 the irony of what you just said, no doubt escapes you. Your assumption that Christianity comes in one form, an extreme, fundamentalist, narrow-minded and hateful group, which you then assume gives you the right to act in an extreme, narrow-minded and hateful way to this Christian. 63% of Dems... you know, pro-choice, pro-lgbtqi rights, etc, identify as Christian, myself included. It's weird to be living in a world where you're a heretic to extreme religious and at the same time a punching bag to those who's views on politics, science, etc, you share. 🤷♀️
This interpretation is why we have over 1000 different official Christian denominations. That has to show people that 'an old book that says a thing' can and is interpreted to be what the heck the reader wants it to mean. Good video.
Ffs there's 10,000 religions and 45,000 denominations of Christianity (who btw don't even agree with each other) so tell me again how people chose the "right" religion. There is no right religion. They're all bullshit. Religion is Prison for your mind and spirit and a weapon in the hands of oppressors
This lady is great. I can’t stop repeating 😂👍 😂 she deserves an award 👏👏 “The secret to understanding the Bible is not following the words you find, but in finding the words you are willing to follow”. 😂
WOW! Wasn’t expecting a newby to ‘this’ YT channel! Congratulations on this true diamond in the rough! And as that other commenter stated, some of her scripts/skits just might cause you to piss your pants, in laughter! Great content, this channel provides…. GLORY! 😜
Maybe it is because I was raised Catholic, but I was taught that the only way to read the Bible...was to never read it yourself. To this day, I am still amazed that my Catholic high school thought differently and not only taught me how to fully read the Bible (not "properly," but fully) but also had me do it and even do the same with other religious texts. My parents have long since regretted forcing that (can it be truly called "Catholic"?) education onto me, and they made sure to have so many catechism texts, none of which seem to include anything from the Bible in any way, perhaps as a sort of ward against me, now an atheist, showing the blatant hypocrisy that they practice. Too bad for them that I made it a point of keeping a digital list of all of the Bible passages - both Old and New Testament - that directly and explicitly contradict their assertions. That is probably a part of why they just stopped saying anything religious around me - and just stopped speaking with me in general, which only means a lot more peace and quiet and a lot less blatant hypocrisy around me.
Any extremism is wrong! Perhaps your parents realized that when they stopped talking to you about God, and started talking (praying) to God about you. 😊
@@cosalinda So by your logic, they chose extremism themselves. After all, they were the ones who chose to stop talking to me and then double down on their hypocrisy, whereas I just wanted them to practice which their religion preaches, which, evidently, is kryptonite to them. Well, there is no hate quite like Christian love.
You really play an evil Evangelical conservative soccer mom so well. Sometimes I forget it is just a character and I get flashbacks to when I was living in a conservative El Paso Suburb. Good job as always!

Reminds me of an episode of Rocko's Modern Life, where Rocko and his friends were captured and tied up by a bunch of cultists who worshipped sausages or whatever. When the cultists prepared to throw bowling balls at them, Rocko protested, saying that they couldn't do that. The cult leader responded by saying it's in their bible, which stated something along the lines of, "But if there should be a nonbeliever among you, let that one go, and do not throw bowling balls at him." Rocko, of course, stated that even their bible said they should be let go, only for the cult leader to shrug his shoulders and state, "It's a matter of interpretation."
I grew up in what I now call a "businessmen's church" of a Protestant denomination, and there was indeed a lot of interpreting scripture out of any semblance of its obvious meaning, the "camel through the eye of a needle" quote against the wealthy being one of the most obvious. I also remember being told numerous times that the "Love thy neighbor as thyself" commandment only applied to people we knew and approved of, though it wasn't stated that clearly. There were also numerous Sunday sermons on such topics as "God wants you to keep your lawn mowed." I wish I were kidding.
Great video! The Bible itself actually warned about this happening with people... 2 Timothy 4 1In the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead, and in view of his appearing and his kingdom, I give you this charge:2Preach the Word; be prepared in season and out of season; correct, rebuke and encourage--with great patience and careful instruction.3For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.4They will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths.
The Old Testament warns against the New Testament. By all accounts, Jesus performing miracles as in magic, while at the same time failing to meet the other necessary criteria such as restoring the temple, makes him a false messiah, and one that was deliberately bent on turning people away from the truth. The messiah the Jews were expecting was just a man set to accomplish a particular list of big deeds. They did however have a warning against false messiahs that will use magic. Hard to choose a starting point, but if the Old Testament god is real, and the prophecy’s are true, then the New Testament is false and created to trick people.
@@JM-zg2jg You are misunderstanding scripture my friend. Jesus didn't use magic like witches and Pharoah's magicians. Moses wasn't a witch either, nor Abraham, Noah, or Joshua.
It's a touch ironic that 2 Timothy's author "to suit (his) own desires" pretended that he was the Great Apostle, Paul of Tarsus. A cynic might call this forgery; scholars call it pseudepigraphical; I couldn't possibly comment.
This one applies to all religions and all religious people across the spectrum. You find out real quick in an unguided bible study that many verses mean whatever is convenient for each person. Whenever religion got in the way of the influential, they just started a new one. 4,200 religions in the world today, and each is the "one true religion" and all others are eternally roasted.
To be fair, many faiths believing in deities of certain locations or natural features are quite happy to respect the local river god if they travel to another river, or even another section of the river they live near, etc.
Deven, another fabulous episode of Mrs. Betty Bowers. My wife and I love the character of Mrs. BB. You have just the right combination of snark and condescension. GLORY!
Amongst all of the excellent of Ms Bowers presentations- this is one of the best!! Brilliant illustration of what “Christianity” actually involves in modern USA.
68 years ago my sister was a 2nd grader in Florida. Reading instruction was choral reading of scripture from large chart paper. When my family returned to Illinois, my sister repeated the 2nd grade. Talk about a miracle. My sister CAN READ!
If people were somehow forced to remain consistent with their logic across everything, those who believe in religions would be a complete disaster. Believing everything said to them with no evidence (or anything that starts with "god says"). But somehow people are able to compartmentalize their logical fallacies and never actually address it.
"Tongue of the Devil" - an embarrassingly simple and undeniably fun game. Fun to watch, fun to play, fun to imagine that somebody somewhere is playing right now. Before beginning read and understand the instructions: The challenge: To follow the rule Winning: Following the rule The rule: Take any random statement and prove it using 'Bible Quotes'.
Acts 2:44-45 may be the most pointed example of Christianity being originally socialist in nature. This scripture stands opposed to capitalism as it is in America. No believer has any excuse for not believing or following their own religious texts.
As a non believer but understanding the choices this lady, who apparently is a good Christian, is a hoot and a refreshingly humorous skew directed at the extreme right magats

"Not following the words you find, but finding the words you're willing to follow" So well said. They quote mined their own bible, before there was such a thing as Christianity.
But do you think everyone can follow the logic, if not the actual procedure, of following the flow of the chart? I think that is the actual problem. Stupidity.

As was the prohibition on pork and seafood without scales. In addition to prohibiting shrimp, clams, octopus, squid, etc. Romans put garum (fermented fish sauce) on almost everything. Garum was made mostly from fish with scales, but other seafood was also part of many recipes.
I like how Scandinavian countries have pastors and priests who are on the government payroll. Their job is to provide a sort of spiritual comfort, but mostly to provide counseling which they must have a degree in. Not a perfect system, but a pretty good one. They are there to comfort and help the afflicted, the poor, or anyone who needs help in anyway, like a catchall or troubleshooter.
