Underbase printing is a cool idea, hadn't thought of that. Matsui metallic shimmer with waterbased pigments added is the way to go. Buy this by the gallon for lots cheaper than quarts and mix in yellow pigment to get your gold, you can also make metallic blue, red, purple, green or whatever by adding pigments. Goes on nice and creamy and will print through a 156 or 160 mesh easy

Hey Lee, huge fan of yours. You should try your metalics with a 110 Mesh, a 60 SINGLE durometer squeegee (freshly sharpened), and Wilflex Liquid Gold ink. You will never have to underbase or feel the need to print flash print your ink. Absolute perfect prints every single time. I run on Roq Automatic as well. A tip from an extremely picky screen printer. Hope this helps cut down time and materials for your metalic jobs. Keep up the good work man
Great tip. I learned this at an Impressions trade show in Atlantic City a long time ago. Metallics are a pain in the ass so one less pass is instantly better.
I thought every printer knew this - you just print metallics pretty much the same with an underbase for opacity. In Fact, Barrier Underbase for polyesters works best for every garment with Metallics. lighten up to pms 421 for general usage.
amazing print like always @LeeStuart I know you busy as hell. Be nice if you can do a video on the silver Metallic, I will try it myself but don't have my machine set-up. maybe a cool gray 6 or 7 under base. what you think?
White and silver are a little easier to get away with since they are moderately similar, especially once the white base is in a dark shirt and looks a bit grey. Gold and others are less forgiving
