That's our girl. Tiny Judith, they had to give her a little booster stage! But when she opened her mouth, her voice rang like a bell and she blew us all away. Safe travels, Judith.
@@andrewthornhill7042 Yes. Judith Durham was supposed to be 5'3 tall, but she looked much more like a petite 5'0 to me. As my lovely late Mother (who was only five feet tall herself) used to say that good things come in small packages.
@@hf6150 Yes. The iconic Olivia Newton John was another stunning looking young woman with an equally beautiful voice. 'Grease' is one of my all time favourite films with a truly brilliant soundtrack. No doubt, Australia and the world will mourn them both.
My heart is broken now that Judith Durham has passed us by. The voice of the angels now have another voice that is above them. A singer beyond compare. I have met with my friends and our tears have flowed, for we have lost someone so beautiful in song and in life.
Was at work when i heard about Judith. Could not say a thing bcos all the folk were So Much Younger than me. Meaningless to them. My Saturday mornings in the 60's were very often the seekers - morning town ride, georgie girl, and this blissful song. GBY all & I shed tears each time I think of or hear Judith
If you were born in the 60,s or before ,I'm sure your parents listened to this Beautiful Lady &Many others,I was born in early 60,z & appreciated this Music all my life. The era &before has the Very Best of Voices&songs..Judith has an Angelic Voice ,anybody could listen over &over. We need to TURN BACK TIME,,&Let our World Heal with so Many Greats..
Rest in peace Judith God bless you,the carnival will never be over till the day I die, thank you for you singing, you will not be forgotten,my favorite song,AMEN,💖🌈🌸🙏😘🌹
About twenty years ago, I bought a whole load of great 1960s vinyl singles, EPs, LPs and vinyl box sets of The Seekers (as well as Judith Durham solo material) at a truly bargain price from a bloke at South Shields outdoor market who just wanted to downsize and declutter his house and I still have them all to this day. They are a treasured part of my collection and I would NEVER sell them at any price.
Apparently, their bosses at Colombia Records wanted The Seekers to put out another song called 'Hummingbird' as their next single at the time, but Judith Durham felt SO strongly that their next release just HAD to be 'The Carnival Is Over' that she insisted upon it, as she loved the song so much and she could immediately sense it's huge commercial potential. Judith's great instincts about the song were soon proven to be absolutely correct, as the single literally soared to No1 in the UK charts and was apparently selling over 60,000 copies a week. The supremely talented Ms Durham could certainly recognise a hit when she first heard one.
Good heavens! Such a tiny, extremely modest creature and with her powerful and melodious sounding voice tightens my throat and makes my eyes mist over. Phenomenal.
This is definitely the greatest song ever recorded by The Seekers. One reviewer I read wrote that Judith Durham had the most beautiful voice in the history of recorded sound and probably before that as well. I’m sure he is quite correct!. RIP Judith.
Rest in peace, Judith. Your angelic voice gave 'The Seekers' "their unique sound". What a wonderful gift you shared with the world. You sing now in another place in the presence of a higher power. Farewell, dear lady!
How blessed were we to have Judith Durham and the Seekers fill out lives with joy at a time when music had such great vocals , harmonies and arrangements which many of today's generations could never imagine
Judith Durham, a magnificent voice. R.I.P. Judith, you and your voice brought joy to millions of people.. The harmonies form the guys in the group deserve credit also, but without Judith I am afraid the Seekers would not have achieved the fame and success that they did.
Now, that's what you call a stunning figure (all natural) !! OMG I remember this very performance on TOTP {Thursday evening BBC tv) because Judith was NOT wearing a long gown!
@@stewartfenton7660 Apparently, she only found out about twenty years later that millions of her male fans all around the world were utterly besotted with her and to think that she actually thought that she was overweight and unattractive.
@@stephenalanmoore7278 She was slightly chubby of face (at this point in her life) - but that just made her more lovable! She was certainly extremely attractive - I think everybody loved her - without it ever intruding; as @abberationify says, wearing a shorter dress here, but still looked demure and - well - _nice_ .
So difficult to pick one; Carnival, Morningtown, the Lonely Ram song, Isa Lei, World of our Own, I am Australian, ... I agree with others that for Judith by herself, Danny Boy is painfully lovely, and most definitely the one I compare all others to (and they lose).
I love the _tierce de Picardy_ when they sing "for Pierrot and Columbine". Judith had a fantastic soprano, but the boys backed her up well with their harmonies.
Clearly, he was every bit as smitten with the beautiful Miss Durham as the rest of us were. She certainly had really stunning good looks to match her equally stunning singing voice.
Sopranos, but in the popular music genre - thank goodness. For me - Judith, Julie, Nana, and Mireille. I'm sure all could do operatic soprano (Judith very versatile - her _preferred_ was Jazz; Julie is just Julie; Nana does _some_ classical. Mimi has sung a lot of classical pieces that normally aren't sung, such as Chaik PC1!), but I enjoy them all best when doing popular music. Judith is just lovely: I attended their (final!) farewell tour, and you could just feel the waves of affection from the audience (I was at the Sage in Gateshead UK).
@@osvaldoschilling9129 I was only 23 years old at the time, seems like yesterday, I was only a few metres away from Judith, was an amazing experience being this close to such a legend
@@stephenturner6075 it wasn't one of my favourites back then, but I've been watching them lately (her) and this song is really getting under my skin, finally. All those closeups of Judith aren't hindering the process either.
Thank you so much for this! Just wanna let you know how much your efforts are appreciated. I found many old gems through your channel. I wish my generation listened to these masterpieces more often. To this day, I haven't met a soul near my age who even knows The Seekers, let alone listens to them.
Thank you so much for sharing this. I have heard the songs of the seekers and the beautiful singing of Judith Durham all my life. My grandad and dad used to sing them to me 🤗. We played this at my mums funeral. She passed just three weeks after my dad in 2016, I thought the words were very apt for them both. My dad was in the forces when they met, they adored each other from that first meeting, married after 6 months and were about to celebrate their 52nd wedding anniversary when they passed. A true love story. This song has very bitter sweet memories but my brother and I still adore the seekers. 🤗💕
The Aussies are so blessed to have the Seekers as a native group. Many of us in the USA love them too. The 60s were such a legendary time in music history.
I remember listening to this with my father not long before he died.He told me he heard Russian prisoners singing this song when he was stationed,I think, in Turkey.I later this was indeed an old Russian folk song sung by soldiers as they were being sent into battle.
So beautiful. The melody and the harmonies captured my mind as a 4 year old, and they still sound fabulous today. Those Russians sure can create timeless melody! Thank you for uploading.
