2023 has once again been the year of the GMT with the release of the Longines Spirit Zulu Time in the much anticipated 39mm size, the all new Longines HydroConquest GMT, and my favorite Seiko Marine Master 200 GMT SPB383. I have loved GMT watches for years after owning the likes of the Rolex Explorer II, Tudor Black Bay GMT, Tudor Black Bay Pro, Grand Seiko SBGM221, Zodiac Super Sea Wolf GMT Sherbet, and more.
But back in 2019, I saw a vintage Seiko Navigator Timer for the first time and I fell in love with it and nearly bought one shortly afterwards. I absolutely loved the case, overall experience, and of course the gray dial immensely so imagine my excitement when I heard that Seiko brought back the Navigator Timer with the SPB411. I knew I had to get one. And now I have one.
In this video I’m going to get into the details, all the dimensions, how the new Navigator Timer wears on the wrist, the dial, the case, the movement, and more now that I’ve been wearing the watch for the past few days. (It’s pretty fantastic).
Big thanks to Taylor at Edward Arthur Jewelers for getting me this Alpinist GMT so quickly! Feel free to reach out to him : edwardarthur@comcast.net with "THE WATCH IDIOT" in subject line
OR Give them a call at (410) 449-5592 and ask for Taylor and let them know The Watch Idiot sent you! (Hopefully I'll be able to get more review units for more videos for all of you!)

This is absolutely stunning. Perfect dimensions. Fair play to Seiko for removing the Prospex logo.

You'd think that it might be dull because of the monotone, but noooo! When the light starts hitting it, it's a absolute gem. I've had mine for a few weeks already and it's a stunner. My wrist is just 6" and it doesn't feel silly. What it has is presence. Seiko knocked it out of the park with this one.

A beautiful watch, for sure. It is such a shame that Seiko’s prices have made these watches unattainable for many of us. Enjoy!

Saw one in person and , of course, none of the renderings and stock images do the watch justice as seeing it in actuality is so much nicer. Wears great. Just impressed with the overall look. I'd be keen to get one.. I'm still wary of 6R based movements based on my prior experiences. Will see.. might be just good looking enough to take that chance again.

Hi ! Nice video ! As you wear it in every lights conditions : What can you say about the overall aspect ? Is it a one tint watch ? (One grey) Or is it a two tint watch (grey and dark grey ?) in general, is the dial look the same grey shade as the case/bezel/bracelet ? Thanks

Yeah I can totally see why you love this watch, and the dial finish is looking good as well. Not sure why brands put a matte coat on sunburst dials, it takes away a lot of the dial's character
@thewatchidiot
@thewatchidiot 8 месяцев назад
Yeah it's one that I've been waiting for for a while! And yeah matte layers on sun burst dials is quite strange so maybe it has something to do with protection? Maybe it's just the way those particular dials are made for mass production

@anthonystevens8683
@anthonystevens8683 8 месяцев назад
Nice one TWI. I love the flying saucer case shape and that bracelet looks like a step up from what I might have expected from the brand at this price point. I'm not usually a fan of friction bezels but as you mention this is quite stiff it should work well for those time zones that are not a 1 hour shift from local and that's quite a big plus in this case. That grey sunburst dial gives great reflections of the hands as well. Lume is clearly not one of the strong points but it's more of a GADA watch so not really so much of an issue. I like it a lot. As usual a great objective review and thanks for sharing.
@thewatchidiot
@thewatchidiot 8 месяцев назад
Thanks Anthony! Yeah the case and especially the bracelet are a nice upgrade to what usually does I'm glad they're starting to step up! Yeah I wish there was a way to add more lume considering how good Seiko lume is but the grey dial with those indices make up for it for me. I still can't stop looking at it i think I can classify this as one of my favorite watches!

I honestly thought this was another one of their vintage-inspired Seiko 5 models, this time with the 4R GMT movement. At 1,5k that thing is just silly; typical impulse buy that's sold on after 3-6 months.

Looks like a really sick watch, I'm really fond of vintage Seiko too. Surprised I haven't seen more people review it. Personally though, the price tag is a little steep. If I were buying a retro GMT, I think I would choose one of the smaller Glycine Airman references over this one, don't know what the quality delta is like though.

@Horizontalvertigo
@Horizontalvertigo 8 месяцев назад
@@MrPhotographerDude I guess it would be better to say that the Airman is better value for money at grey market prices. I don't doubt that the Navigator's worth it, just that I can have an Airman and a thousand dollars left over for a comparable product.

@thewatchidiot
@thewatchidiot 8 месяцев назад
A jet black dial on this watch would undoubtedly be an incredible watch and a very tempting one at that! There's always a chance of Seiko releasing different versions of this in the future so anything can happen! Yeah the black dial alpinist gmt is a fantastic watch and I'm really enjoying mine but given how long ive been waiting for this navigator timer and how much i love it, it's time to sell the alpinist gmt

@ajmarion the 381 is a great watch I absolutely love my 383, I think I could safely say it's my favorite Seiko diver! That said, it can't really be compared to the overall quality of the navigator timer, the bracelet is just worse and it's not limited so I don't think the price nor the price trend of the navigator timer can be compared to that of the MM200 GMT.

I can't take my eyes off of it! The bracelet is very similar to the king Seiko reissue, originally I thought it was the same! But the one on the king seikos has the same basic design but it's 7 links across vs 5 here. It's a brushed flat link beads of rice of sorts and it would have looked fantastic here as well
