One of the most beautiful, scenic railways, not only in England but the whole world. In this video: 'The Settle to Carlisle Line. Exceedingly Cheap Travel on England's most Scenic Railway!', I'm going to give you flavour of what to expect if you take the train all the way from Leeds. I'll tell you about some of the stations on the line and show you a bit of the countryside, tunnels, viaducts, hills and valleys as we wind our way north up to Carlisle.
I'll also describe the train and facilities on board plus, perhaps most importantly, the price. And I think you're going to be amazed at how little it cost me to do this trip all the way from Leeds up to Carlisle. I don't mind saying, it really is one of the best railway journeys I've ever taken and I hope you can come along for the journey with me.
If you like this kind of thing, please consider subscribing to the channel where you will find many more trips like this and plenty coming up in the future too. I would really appreciate that and also feel free to like and comment - I reply to as many as I can and love to interact with you all.
As always guys, thanks very much for watching and until the next time, cheers for now!
Mark

This and other movies inspired me, in a hospital bed, covid, to do tours I wanted if I got over covid. A bucketlist was scribbled down on a notepad with the help of a nurse. So I took the bus from Glasgow via Edinburgh and Newcastle down to Leeds. And then this train to Carlisle and return up to Glasgow. Great tour and I am thankful to this video and the Aberdeen coastal road to Dundee in the same series which I also did this summer. The Settle train should indeed be put on any bucketlist. Thanx, Mark !!!

Hi Keven, well thanks for re-watching - all helps. I haven't been on the Matlock branch but it's something I've been meaning to do for a while - not least because I fancied a ride on the gondolas at Abraham Heights (I think that's what it's called?). Will try and make the effort next year and the cottage at Cromford sounds ideal!

Great video Mark. I've travelled over this line more times than I can remember. It's only my opinion,but the train you are travelling on,a 3 car 158,makes the journey so much more pleasant as I find the seats more comfortable over the seats fitted on the 2 car 158s.
@LetsMakeaTrip
@LetsMakeaTrip 2 года назад
Hi Stephen, thanks. My first time on this line - really enjoyed it and it was a great day for doing it weather-wise. The 158 was comfortable enough, I didn’t realise they differed between the 2-car and 3-car sets. I’ll have to try the former next (maybe in the other direction and in the winter would be interesting). All the best, Mark

Wishing you A VERY VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR 2022 ,the year of the TIGER !!! 🐯💕 My favourite animal !! This train is looking very clean & pretty 😍 I really love the blue colour !!! Blue is my No.1 fave ,especially turquoise !! Purple used to be my No.1. All time favourite colour of mine ! Red is nice, too ! But,the airlines avoid red seats usually as passengers get violent if the seats are red ,blue is a soothing colour ,so trains / airplanes tend to pick blues for their seats 💺 Beautiful blue sky ,btw.!! Hellifield is one of my favourite stations. The Midlands railway architecture all along the line is breathtaking still after all these years. I am glad I was a tiny part of the campaign to keep this from closure. But all credit to Michael Portillo the then Secretary of State who dared argue for its retention with Mrs Thatcher - and won the day.
@LetsMakeaTrip
@LetsMakeaTrip 2 года назад
Thanks John and thanks for the support. Yes I recall Mr Portillo talking about this (it was probably on the relevant ‘railway journeys’ programme) and it’s certainly reaping the rewards now. One thing I regret on this trip was not spending a bit more time getting on and off at various stops and having a look around because some of the station architecture was fantastic. Could spend all week up there tbh so at least I’ve got an excuse to go back 😊

@@LetsMakeaTrip We were at the time. Newsletters, letters, etc (no internet). A lecturer at Lancaster where I was a student led the protests so we saw what was happening blow by blow: the rigged usage surveys, the faked track bed inspections, etc: I may not condone a man who has a home near Seville and opposing my right of free movement with promoting my current state of isolation. But for this, credit where credit is due. His input was needless to say the decider. May many more support you

@@hoof2001 yes I don’t agree with a lot of his ‘current’ views, though I do enjoy the tv programmes and I guess that yep, ultimately he was pivotal in saving the line.
