My gaming setup has evolved a lot over the years. After discovering VGA for my Dreamcast and YPbPr for my other 6th gen consoles, I was off on the winding, perilous road of console collecting.

Along with a growing number of retro game consoles comes games to play on each of them and my desire to share how each piece of the puzzle enhanced the final product you see on screen led me to create this video channel - which required a whole slew of other devices like upscalers, receivers, capture cards, cameras, microphones, and more!

beautiful setup! nicely put together video also. had that same monoprice hdmi switcher but it failed on me recently during a power spike.

Sorry to hear it! It performs well, but I wish their was an option to turn off auto-switching. It always hops straight to my PSTV, which is rarely what I'm going to play on lol

Great job! I like the set up! I am surprised that with all the component cables that you use a passive switch and not a extron crosspoint, especially for the older consoles that need to go through multiple devices, they are pretty cheap on eBay, finding some for less than 100

Yeah, I have considered an Extron several times. I might even end up going with a gComp 8x2.

just found your channel! your videos are as great as the popular retro consoles! i don't know you have less than 1000 subscribers, but you got 1 more! I honestly watched a bunch of your videos, but i wanna know, what is the best way to get games from original wii to look good on modern tv without any motherboard modding. Should I use component cables? or should i use an hdmi adapter? Edit: I mostly use it as a emulation device for mario 64 and some snes titles.

I would avoid the Wii2HDMI adapter that's floating around online. Using a quality pair of component cables is the way to go if you don't want a pricey mod like the Wii Dual. For quality, you can't go wrong with HD Retrovision cables: amzn.to/30GbJsr

@@RetroTechSelect Thanks! Only reason I considered a hdmi adapter such as the wii2hdmi is so i can get a mClassic as a cheap plug-in-play upscaler for 480p and 720p consoles.

@@EzraMashupVT I can definitely understand that. I'm curious to know: does your TV have component inputs? How much benefit you see from something like the mClassic really depends on how good/bad the scaler in your display is. Most 4K/1080p TVs handle 720p and 480p pretty well. A hurdle you face with the Wii2HDMI route is that they're known for adding lag and washing out colors. That means that you're potentially degrading the signal before it gets to the ~$100 mClassic.

very nice setup man! I like your organization and cable management. How do you like that Startech capture device? I have been thinking about getting it for a while now, but the price is keeping me from jumpin onboard with it yet. I heard you need to update it to a custom firmware to be able to capture some consoles upscaled at higher resolutions from the OSSC

If you're just looking for 4x at 960p, no need for custom firmware. I've also been cautioned against using the custom FW, as it's been shown to crash PCs (blue screen). I do have to say that the Startech is a bit less user-friendly than the Elgato HD, which was basically plug and play. Still, the benefit of getting those higher multiplication modes us worth it for my purposes.

Would you happen to know if the retrotink 2x works with the elgato hd60 pro? I can't find many sources that say if it does.

It works well with my Elgato HD and here's a video from the creator of the RetroTINK, showing it working well with the HD60 playing a SNES (which is notorious for it's atypical refresh rate) - ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-C3dw04LONtU.html

Quiz for cool points, which console in my main setup isn't connected to the display in this video? Hint: it's usually connected via VGA (but is waiting on YPbPr cables for conformity).
