If you think about it, Half Life is essentially the sci fi video game equivalent to lovecraftian horror. Opening up a door to a world we could not begin to comprehend, with the only thing greeting us is an unstoppable force.

Holy shit. This makes me realize -- the Half-Life franchise would've made a great novel series!

This video makes me feel that Valve should make a sequel to Opposing Force starring Shephard during and after the 7 hour war. He might blow up another large Combine facility in the game or something.

Makes me wonder how the experience would've been to all the soldiers of the world fighting against an advanced enemy, and how it would feel to play it. Quoting Eli Vance in Half Life 2: Episode 2: "It'll be the Seven Hour War all over again, only this time we won't last seven minutes!"

I think the Seven Hour War is like the Machine War from the Matrix, but Humanity was fighting the Combine instead of Zero One, and the Humans didn't do a Sun-blocking operation.

I would like to congratulate you on understanding that the Combine soldiers fought in HL2 were NOT present in the seven hour war; many people fail to realize that, it seems.

Honestly, this is just things shooting. A body camera from the point of view of one of the soldiers would really explain why the Combine is so threatening, but the "found footage" sort of style could work with this. You never see the exact forces of either side in the video, it's just an occasional Hunter or Strider shooting at the six or seven soldiers that are seen in the video, or maybe the few Vortigaunts that were brought in after the war ended. The major problem is scale. The Seven Hour War was all of Earth's governments, all of the US forces fighting a losing battle against a grand empire, but you don't see that in this video. I saw a few dozen guys shooting at a Strider every now and then, or some Combine helicopters just casually flying along and then exploding. You could've had some scenes like: A squad of marines holed up in a building encounters a headcrab canister dropped by the Combine. What do they do? How do they react to the new threat? Would they try to help another marine when he's been killed by a headcrab? A squadron of fighters are on a regular patrol, when a squad of Combine fighters appear and presumably take down at least 2 of the US fighters, with the others having to dogfight these completely new threats. How do the pilots react? What would the Combine's fighter look like? An armoured column goes on the offensive, trying to retake a major city from the Combine. How does an Abrams fare against the Combine's tanks? How would the soldiers take down a Strider? How would the Combine forces retaliate, or would they have to do so? A NATO garrison on an island is under siege. How would a submarine take on Combine fighters/helicopters? A US aircraft carrier and it's strike group have to stay out at sea for an undetermined amount of time, or what if it's after Earth surrenders, and the strike group is being hunted? That's just a few ideas I thought of off the top of my head, and any of them would've shown how the Combine invaded, at least far better than just Striders shooting at off-screen props with the occasional shot of soldiers shooting at an idle Hunter.

just imagine this, a What If a Combine invasion came just before the first robot was built (in the matrix movie) and with the Combine invading earth with sheer volume of the army being destroyed from the Aliens, Xen's Creatures, Combine, Portal and with the human forces trying to deal with them it would have been an The 10 Hour War Combine-Human War with the Human forces slowly being pushed back with the Combine starting their Base in the Sea of the Atlantic Ocean and with Everyday news covering the problem, but knowing they would all be Invaded by them with the Portals coming out of nowhere now thats what i want to see a Crossover of what i want to see!!!!

I feel like the war would've lasted more than just 7 hours, sure humanity still would have fallen but I feel like they'd have a fighting chance and maybe hold out for more than just 7 hours.

I honestly doubt the 7 Hour War featured Striders and any other Synths that we see in HL2, since they're Hybrids with Human Technology (The Gunship being a Hybrid between the Hunter-Chopper and Organic Life from another planet, etc, plus the fact that they all fire Machine Guns). A cut map from one of the Episode expansions was supposed to show a Synth Dropship Gunship production plant, and we see them being repaired in the Citadel. I think the 7 hour war witnessed a much worse force.
