The especially awful part about this is that that wouldn't happen if it was real life.

Combine discovered the planet after the Nihilanth's invasion attempt, and deployed a "recon force", which was strong enough to put down a lot of resistance and secure bridgeheads from thoose portals. Newspapers say that after that, the "main structure of the Combine army" had arrived and completely destroyed any resistance that stood in their way to conquest. The "reckon" force also makes sense when you play HL2 and realize that City 17 is mostly undamaged, probably due to the lack of heavy resistence and lack of destructive weapons during the battle. This isnt same with North America, which is crossed by an X on a map in Half Life Alyx, which implies that human inhabitance might have ended due to the use of thoose "destructive" weapons and might ended the possiblity of rehabitating the area.

@@Createanew0 I like your thinking, but the Combine hadn't mastered local teleportation, only extremely long range teleportation that took a stupid amount of energy to complete. It was their whole reason for showing up to Earth to begin with, because we actually managed to research something they hadn't. All that being said, it's still the Combine, they had a stupid amount of everything and that everything was more advanced than our everything, they absolutely flanked with the ease of walking through a park.

Well in reality when you have someone in a fight or flight situation they will fight until they die and when these guys got ambushed by something they don't understand it's shoot first ask questions later. And that's why the combine took losses because these guys wanted to live.

In all fairness, anywhere that wasn't an active warzone was already fucked. Major portions of the infrastructure and industry we needed to fight a proper ground war was in ruins thanks to the catastrophic effects of the Black Mesa incident and the consequences following. By the time the Combine arrived, we were practically easy pickings.

They got their asses kicked until logistics kicked in. Then the side that had portal technology won.

With Breen dead, the citadel destroyed, and no way to contact the overworld, the remaining combine forces on Earth are now isolated. The destruction of the C17 reactor was a major turning point in the retaking of Earth.

also we did not see the real Combine army in HL2, it was mostly just Overwatch which is just a Colonial Garrison

@@SirAroace We didn't see them because in reality they got scrapped by Valve, but another story is that the combine captured earth and didn't need their army so instead they used humans and transformed them as "officers" And acted like the Enforcment.

They did have warp cannons and weapons that annihilated matter and humanity was barely getting there, all they had was handheld portable portal weaponry and like the few other prototype weaponry Gordon Freeman gets to use lost to the resonance cascade, even then the combine and their armor would've made weapons that strip away the paste that keeps fundamental particles of matter together useless.

This is a fan model. Original concept was meant to be more big and "fat", yet still very fast and acrobatic. Combine were meant to be so much OP, but after first Half-Life, Valve decided to make HL2 way easier, so one single citizen can kill 3 soldiers... - _ -

Just a Guy Yeah, it was mostly strategical nightmares (According to canon, the war started by the Combine dropping citadels on all the big cities that were left on Earth and pouring troops off of them) and the already hard-to deal with Xen portal storms that forced the UN to capitulate so quickly. If the humans weren't exhausted by portal storms and knew the Combine were coming in advance, it would take a lot longer to get Earth to surrender. The Combine would most likely need to tap into their bigger guns (as I'd imagine a Universal empire wouls have) to do it.

That's exactly why Overwatch and Civil protection exist, they were ment to watch over citizens and deal with human forces, they wouldn't waste such powerfull soldiers on simple humans, the Combine on earth is a human division

The heavy, tank like "crab synths" were actually seen in HL2 whilst you move through the citadel; Most likely heavy reinforcments against the uprising, that thankfully never came into use. Most other synths seen in the vid though, are from my knowledge atleast, original concept for high-grade synths made from humans, that were planned but never were implemented. The heavier ones being what would perhaps been a sort of "heavy infantry". I like to think this is what happens to those soldiers sent to "permanent off-world assignments" though.
