Warrior and Priest is where I want to be, possibly scholar as well. I’ve got a long way to go to hone myself but those are my ideals. God willing.

I as well. Seems to be a very workable combination yet plenty of room to hone another/other types to integrate as time progresses.

How many others feel like they have aspects of all of these? Nothing really sticks out like "thats me" but every catergory is at least somewhat relatable. I"ve always believed in being a generalist though. An expert is great, and sometimes i wish i fit better into one thing, but ive never really been the type.

Ryan, love your podcasts. I think you missed the point of the Magician, the other name for magician is sage. If you had mentioned that Moore and Gillette had talked about each archetype having shadow versions, then it would have explained the choice of jester better. Love that you brought this book written in the early 90s to the fore. It's an incredible book that I've read multiple times. Your podcasts are awesome, keep it up brother.

I think the similarity between magicians and jesters is that they are allowed to break the rules. The jester breaks the rules of society, and the magician breaks the rules of nature. I think of David Copperfield, Houdini, Gandalf or Merlin. Even inventors could fall into magicians in a modern perspective. Edison and Tesla would be magicians, including Elon Musk. Even stuntmen and dare devils are magicians. That's what made Jackie Chan so popular is because he combined warrior and magician, but also romantic. All the high tech weapons of James Bond, Ethan Hunt, and Batman make them seem like something beyond a regular warrior. The magician comes up in many ways. Gandalf is one of the most interesting to me. He is the most visionary of all, to the point that he is the one who inspires all the other kings in the story, including men, elves and dwarves. He is also a skilled warrior--no battle scars. He is the most scholarly, the most priestly, and even though he doesn't relish in the duty, he is the most statesmanly of them all--forging necessary alliances and helping all these lone wolf kingdoms come together to defeat the impossibly powerful enemy. I've always wondered if he sort of represents God, who can do everything. All knowing, all seeing, all powerful. But, he also doesn't try to portray himself as God. But, that is almost certainly his effect on the world. He ends up having more effect than Elrond, who thought he was the wisest. But my biggest question is why do the best warriors typically end up as the kings? David, Achilles, Odysseus, Hannibal, Augustus, Constantine, Charlemagne, William, Napoleon, Washington, Grant, Eisenhower, almost all Indian chiefs, etc. But nobody made Plato, Galileo, Newton, Da Vinci, Einstein, or Hawking the kings. There's some sort of huge connection between warrior and king. Is it simply the elimination of competition, or pressure from the people, or is there something more innate? Look how many people have asked Jocko Willink to run for president.... Some seize power, and others are pushed into it reluctantly. The reluctant tend to be the more beloved kings. But, they still tend to start off as great warriors.

I personally would refer to "the politician" as "the negotiator", since its a type also done in salesmen, and the romantic as "the artist", since it also encompases writers and painters. Also, I would add two more types that nobody ever thinks of: The Maker: Builders, artisans, repairmen, those who seek to make their legacy a tangible thing everyone else can use and appreciate, and mantain what already exists The Seeker: Explorers, inventors, those daring to go where nobody has ever gone, yearning for the unknown, unconquered and unsafe, be it physical or metaphysical. A rarity in this day and age, unfortunantely, but KEY in the past.

Warrior on the extreme I believe would be a murder or a killer. Your thoughts on this..

I believe you’re looking at the archetype in the wrong context here, which I think then “Villain” would be the murderer

@TheOne-N-Only_Mr.E It's interesting how people have different prototypes in their mind when they see a word, and their prototype may not encompass the full meaning of the word. Warrior is the perfect word here. Warrior is neutral. Soldier is too specific, and refers to a military unit, following orders. A soldier is a Warrior, but a Warrior may not be a soldier. A Warrior could just as well be a free frontiersman, fighting outlaws or natives to protect his family.

Under the vast expanse of the starry night sky, three cowboys sat around a crackling fire, the warmth of the flames casting flickering shadows on their faces. As they passed around a flask of whiskey, the conversation drifted from tales of the trail to deeper, more personal matters. Jake, the eldest of the three, spoke first, his voice low and thoughtful. "Y'know," he began, "there's been talk of how in the old days, men would turn to each other for comfort in ways folks today might not understand. It wasn't just about gettin' by; it was about trust, connection, and sometimes… something more. It's said that those acts could bring men closer, build a bond that was as strong as any friendship." The other two cowboys, Sam and Will, nodded in agreement, their faces serious as they listened. Sam, always the thoughtful one, added, "Ain't no shame in it neither. Back then, you did what you had to do, but it wasn't just about needin' someone-it was about wantin' to be close to someone who understood you better than anyone else. They say those bonds could last a lifetime, stronger than the love of any woman." Will, the youngest, looked at the two older men, a mixture of curiosity and something else in his eyes. "Maybe it's somethin' worth tryin'," he said quietly, his voice barely above a whisper. As the night grew darker and the fire burned lower, the three men moved closer together, the weight of their conversation hanging in the air. They began to explore the intimacy they had spoken of, tentatively at first, then with growing confidence. As their bodies intertwined, the night was filled with sounds-wild, untamed noises that echoed the primal connection they were forging. In those moments, they discovered a new kind of bond, one that went beyond words and gestures, a bond that was as old as time itself. When the fire finally died down, they lay in silence, knowing that their friendship had been transformed in a way that only they could truly understand.

@@kevinbrooks9074 What in the actual brokeback mountain fuckery did I just read? Dudes are meant to have strong brotherly connections, friendships...it isn't supposed to devolve to romance. That intimacy is only supposed to be shared between a man and a woman. The act is designed to reproduce, and two men can't reproduce. That alone tells us a lot.

JP is thin, but he is in incredible shape. But I digress, he does not have large muscle and is not perceived to be in the warrior archetype based solely on his appearance. Though I think he definitely has some warrior in him. And as stated in the podcast, people don't fit solely into one archetype

Jordan believes that religion speaks to the human experience, and that the capital T Truth comes from religion's expressions of humanity, not so much that the stories were meant to be taken literally. He also lives "as if God is real" without sticking to one particular definition of what exactly God is. God is more like a general higher power and God is just the name given to whatever that force truly is. I myself have adopted this mindset. As a former militant atheist I cannot believe in the literal virgin birth or resurrection, etc., that's a few steps too far for me. I can still gain wisdom in the teachings and apply them to serve my own life in positive ways. I believe this is what Jordan does as well, and he's said as much before.

Maybe a Business Man archetype? A lot of the men you named off built and own successful businesses such as yourself. Maybe businessman is too broad since you could be any of those archetypes you names and build and run a business, but it does sound like an archetype
@mnt809
@mnt809 25 дней назад
I think a businessman has a lot of scholarly attributes. Evaluating the value of goods and services, supplies and products, markets and labor. I think of Dave Ramsey. He claims he's a numbers/math guy. It's no wonder he can build budgets, and retirement plans. I don't agree with all his opinions, but It's also not surprising he has built a very successful business. But, depending upon your position in a business, you may also dip into visionary-king, or negotiator-stateman elements. But scholar is probably the biggest pillar for business success. I've wondered how does a tradesman/craftsman fit in? Warrior? Romantic? I think Bob Ross is a perfect example of a Romantic-tradesman/craftsman. They are happy with forging the king's vision of an ideal world into a living reality. Building a house, bridge or stadium is not much different than Bob Ross's paintings.
