I think Mihawk is the only warlord who didn't have ulterior motive to the Navy. He never use the Navy for conquering a kingdom or even betray them. On the other hand the Navy has benefited so much from him. He stayed faithful to his warlord title till the Navy betrayed him. Just proved how strong and bored he is. Lol
I think that is because he doesn't seem to have much of a goal that would cause him to betray the marines. As far as I can tell, in his free time he has no particular goal he aspires to. He just finds ways to kill time and ease his boredom, probably because he accomplished his goals long ago. At this point he has nothing to do except wait for someone to hopefully challenge him and take his title from him before age and time can do the job for them.
You’re right. Hell even the supposed “most loyal” shichibukai Kuma turns out wasn’t completely loyal. With him secretly helping Bonnie from the shadows and him helping the strawhats. (Honestly I think part of the reason he became a slave instead of a soldier was because of how pissed the government probably was about purposely letting the strawhats get away TWICE and protecting their ship for two years which was probably the last straw)
You know, I do love the fact that we never saw how mihawk beat the marines and made his way to the cross guild because no one has any amount of doubt that he could beat the whole army easily. Do you think they didn't send an admiral because they didn't want to risk losing one?
More likely they sent them to say they did to keep up appearances, but weren't really interested in bringing Mihawk in. It was a lot of trouble, but they knew Mihawk wasn't going to go starting trouble after the fact especially because they didn't throw an Admiral his way.
They would have to send an Admiral and multiple Vice Admirals to take Mihawk down. Given how stretched the Marines were with what was going on with Wano (Big Mom and Kaido teaming up and several of the Worst Generation teaming up), sending two Seraphim after Boa, having Greenbull go after Weevil, and finally having to worry over whatever Blackbeard was up to that their resources were stretched too thin to go hard against Mihawk like what would have really been required to take him down.
As a resident sleeper, I'd say it's less that you have a calming presence, and more that you create content that I can enjoy without looking at a screen.
Here's a sorta-wholesome idea. Shortly after the Kaido incident, Moria finds Perona who has eaten the Hollow Fruit. She can't particularly control it, being a child and all, but Moria (due to the heartbreak he had suffered) was unaffected. From then, Moria helped Perona master her powers, and taking care of Perona got him out of that initial slump from his crew's defeat. Shame it didn't end so well for Moria himself, hope he's been working out on Hachinosu and we get Prime Moria again
I think Moria waited so long because he was tryna get a shadow for the Oar’s body. Yeah the other preparations were ready to go but the Oar’s body is a big key to taking over. So I see why he was stagnant for so long.
I wonder, if it wasn't Luffy... Whose shadow would he have *wanted* to put in Oars? Did he even have anyone specific in mind I wonder, or was he just waiting for a powerful rookie to fall into his lap in Thriller Bark?
@@MIrfanPerdana love this! I had never thought about it, but he must have had someone in mind right? 🤔 maybe a little bit of both perhaps, someone he had in mind, but after enough time passed he could not be picky anymore, and he would use the shadow of a powerful random person 😂
@@MIrfanPerdana bro that’s a great question. I wonder too. Cuz it still have to be someone strong and he can beat. And if he did have someone in mind I wonder who? If not, luffy fell right in his hands lol.
@@vansdaman615 I don't think he had anyone specific in mind. But the florian triangle is perfectly placed since it's located right before Sabaody, so it's pretty much a guarantee that some of the strong rookies that travels towards the new world will cross it from time to time. Moria is/was afraid of the new world to some degree, so he probably wouldn't have any new world pirates in mind, but a rookie strong enough to travel towards the new world like any of the super rookies like the supernovas he still feels confident taking on. So it probably could have been any of the other supernovas if they took a different path, well except for Law that is since his ship couldn't get trapped. Urogue would probably have been a good fit for Oars.
@@g-5615 These are really excellent points, actually!! He set himself up perfectly so that *someone* was bound to stumble onto Thriller Bark, someone strong enough to reach that part of the Grand Line.
Underrated antagonist group in anime imo. Everyone talks about the Akatsuki, the Espada, the Phantom Troupe, etc. And while the warlords may not have the same group dynamic as those other villain groups, they worked so well individually.
Maybe because they didn't ever work together so they didnt have a back and forth like the phantom troupe or the akatsuki. They were only a "group" by title alone.
It's because they're not a group per se. They're just seven individuals who happened to be grouped together by the WG; they're not inherently a group (like a crew).
@@samuri031 I mean, doflamingo was literally the guy who ruled the underground operations. Odds are that the weapons that were sent to Alabasta illegally for the civil war were send there through Doflamingo. The weapons delivered to Kaido, Germa and Big Mom? Doflamingo. The wars fought by the countries that the Germa saved? Doflamingo. If anyone was the literal lord of war in One Piece, its Doffy.
The Love Love powers were based on their feelings for Boa // Boa’s attractiveness and so a new user wouldn’t be able to undo the previous user’s effect. She said it in the chapter.
I always had the head cannon that the government created the warlords as a way to placate Doflamingo. They couldn't let him back as a celestial dragon, but they couldn't let him run wild either. So create the warlord system and hire a few others to make it less suspicious they're just protecting Doflamingo
I might be wrong wrong but I think I remember someone saying that the Warlords were essentially created as a response to the Yonko. Or more specifically something along the lines of trying to balance out the difference in power between the Yonko crews and the Marines. So based on this (if correct) the Warlord system was created after the death of Roger.
Garp, "The Seven warlords and us folks at the Navy, have allied against them. The idea, is to create a balance of power." Episode 314, timestamp might be around 14:20 depending on where you watch it. He says more but I didn't feel like writing the rest haha.
Using you as a podcast. It’s just nice. I usually work with things that requires me to balance many thoughts, orders rules and tasks at once for hours at a time. Basically I’m multitasking at any given moment. So when falling asleep, it’s just nice way to tune into just one subject and eventually fall asleep. And if there’s too much new information, I need to focus, or might get surprised, but rankings, “History of” etc. love them. Keep up the good work.
One really interesting thing about Mihawk's bounty is that he's pretty much the only character in the series who's bounty is a direct measure of their combat strength. Since a character's bounty is a measurement of how much of a threat they represent to the World Governmanet, everyone else has an inflated bounty based on how many allies they have, how large their crew is, how powerful their average members are, how much dangerous information they know, how aggressive they are, etc. At the time when Mihawk's new bounty was posted, he worked alone, had no particular agenda and only fought when people went out of their way to mess with him, and they still saw fit to give him a 3.5 billion Berry bounty.
30:57 the symphony that plays upon Crocodile's defeat in Alabasta is called "From The New World" by Antonin D'vorak. The Symphony is D'vorak's 9th and the specific piece played is the opening of the 4th movement titled "Allegro con fuoco" and is played in the key of E minor. The entire symphony is a little over 40 minutes long Japan really likes this piece as it has been used more often than you'd expect in various japanese media in the last few decades. another example of this piece being used is in the video game Asura's Wrath during Asura's fight against Augus
The first other anime I've heard that in is "Umishou" and the piece gets used for comedic purposes. It fits so much better in that context! I just don't think that it fits into the scene of the final attack against Crocodile.
I remember playing that game, a really interesting place to put that particular piece of music although I suppose it was to make the battle unique. After all, in a sense Augus is not like the others in the Seven Deities Asura fights, he is fighting his former student purely for fun rather than to advance the cause of his organization.
My headcannon is that the warlord system started 22 years ago with mihawk, crocodile and moriah a part of the original seven along with 4 unknown members who were replaced overtime with Hancock, jinbe, doflamingo and kuma
I’m a sleeper to your videos. The amount of times I’ve put geography is everything on shuffle. Despite having wild energy your videos are great to fall sleep too so thank you and don’t stop
As someone who uses your videos to fall asleep, I definitely got asked how that's possible by friends as well haha. Just something about you rambling on and going into random details really helps me relax and completely switch off from whatever happened during the day.
The warlords are some of the best group of villains that aren't the main threat. Much like the phantom troupe they have a lot of their own personality and character Same with still being relevant after so long as oda made them fit well even in the new world as major forces even up against yonko seeing moria once have fought kaido. Boa almost wrecking Blackbeard and mihawk dualing shanks a lot before then law fighting big mom with captain mid and so on. Same as the admirals and marines. They still got so much left to show and oda setting the ground work makes me hyped to see more
It ain't strange, I basically have to play your videos twice since I listen to them for sleeping purposes, and during the day, then I will definitely watch them properly
As a note, I don't think Baroque Works was meant to be a secret organisation proper. They were known Bounty Hunters and they even scouted Zoro. The organization's actual purpose wasn't known at all, finding that out was what got Vivi hunted.
Agreed, it seemed that they were more concerned with people knowing what they were planning on doing and possibly interfering than they were about overall knowledge of their existence. They didn't even see fit to try and retaliate against Zoro when he killed the agent sent to recruit him.
If Gecko Moria was more like his younger self, I'd believe he'd be a much bigger threat. His powers give him almost Logia abilities with his shadow teleportation technique, and his shadow can fly. I wonder if he could split up his own shadow to create zombies, instead of stealing from other people? Big Mom can use her own soul to create Homies, so it may be possible. Although would Moria then become vulnerable to sunlight, since that is what happens to people whose shadows are used for zombies? All of the combinations, so many ways to potentially get stronger. Oda was right when he stated that it's not the fruit that matters, but the person using it. Moria had a broken Devil Fruit, he was just too weak to or stupid or both to use it to it's full potential.
He was presumably stronger in his youth when he had his crew and the same passion that Luffy currently has. When he lost his crew to Kaido, he was broken in a sense. He didn't want to experience the same loss again and he felt that it was pointless to keep trying the way he was. So, he allowed his strength to decay and became devoted to success through the efforts of others. It was his mindset that causes him to limit himself not necessarily a lack of physical ability or intelligence. Once one has a certain mindset in place, that mindset and view of the world can sometimes limit their view of things.
Every Warlord was seen as having the potential to become an Emperor, which is why they were made Warlords. Obviously, Mihawk has his raw strength, but Croc and Moria were contenders who just ran into someone too powerful too soon (Whitebeard and Kaido, respectively). That is furthered by Weevil being compared to "a young Whitebeard", Law getting a 3 billion berry bounty, and Buggy and Blackbeard actually becoming Yonko. When Boa made her declaration that the World Government needed to be reminded of why they were made Shichibukai, she wasn't bluffing. Every single one of these 11 have immense potential, and that was why the WG wanted to reign them in.
They were powerful individuals it is true and in time with work they would have become stronger still as some have demonstrated. It seems that the world government was under the impression that they could keep the warlords as expendable pets under their leash, but as they learned putting a leash on a wolf doesn't make it an obedient dog. As events have shown, the warlords ultimately only answer to the world government on their own discretion and that means that they cannot be depended on not to use their freedom for their own desires.
My thought about warlord registration was that it was a prerequisite to give a dna sample of some sort, and if the candidate refused the fleet admiral or gorosei would send cp0 to retrieve some hair or something, that’s my head canon for the seraphim’s existence being based off the warlords
Like, the government taking a sample for a vivre card might have been the thing that they went back to later like "Hey wait, we've got these tracking papers made of hair, can't we do anything else with these? " and handing a piece over to vegapunk
You can just call him the Joker. "Joker" was his underground alias and there are quite a few possible connections to the actual Joker from DC. He HAS to be based on him!
1:06:50 My thoughts are that she was force fed the love love fruit in order to test whether she could turn someone back who was turned to stone by a previous user. Most Celestial Dragons are cruel and many of them are entitled idiots, but clearly thats not all of them. Some of them may have been testing the limits on Boa's fruit and thats why they gave it to her.
I want to believe that the Warlord system began being planned after the God Valley incident. Because it was the one major moment when marines needed help from pirates to take down other pirates. Especially at the moment when Roger died because there needed to be control
Tekking I’ve been a long time fan and it’s my first time commenting on your vids, I love your studio change from the room to what you’re using now, it feels like a very fun and inviting space
The previous user of the Love Love fruit might have turned one of the world nobles to stone. They might have fed it to her and commanded her to turn him back, but she couldn't. That might be how she knows that the next user couldn't undo what she does.
Imagine if they did a Warlord Origins movie that they got Oda to confirm exactly stories that lead up to the formation of the Warlord with each segment leading up to their formation. Imagine Moria's would be a dark tale of failure and loss. Croc's could be after the loss to Whitebeard and his struggle against the current Alabasta underbelly to take over. Mihawk could show his rivalry with Shanks while on his marine hunt. Etc.
I just realized. Technically, now, for the first time since chapter 45, Luffy no longer has the highest bounty that comes from the east blue. Now that title belongs to Buggy. Even tho Buggy was born in the Grandline. But he got his bounty and name in the east blue 😂
1:35:54 people use ur voice to fall asleep because they like hearing u talk, especially a bunch of things about one piece we like and we love you, I especially use u when I play games, go on drives, sleep, or just normal time, ur just a great man Matt, keep it up❤
I like to believe the warlord system was the end product of the marines trying to find a way to get Mihawk off their backs, someone brings up paying him to stop slaughtering them and the reverie picks up the idea and expands it into what was the 7 warlords.
Closure ….finally ! I’ve been waiting since 2016 Are you doing an othime video ? Recently rewatched some old vids and the fisher tiger one was intense and I love it
Boa - Lust Doffy - Gluttony Crocodile - Greed Moria - Sloth Jinbe - Envy (Envy of the status of humans) Mihawk - Wrath (Following Don Krieg to slice his ship apart lol) Kuma - Pride
Given that Mihawk's epithet as Marine Hunter it gave at least some clarity to Zephyr from Film Z, despite it being noncanon, who else could cut an arm off of Black Arm Zephyr and was invited into to Warlords? Plus it does go to show why they invited Mihawk, the dude found a bunch of Marine recruits along with a Admiral level Marine and cleaned house leaving only three alive.
I use to didn’t fall asleep but I put a long video and I don’t know it just so soothing just listening to a energetic nice guy. Or maybe all your ranting make sense to me and I start thinking so much that I just fall asleep. I don’t know but it the best naps/sleeps I have when it happened
7 Sins of the Warlord Mihawk - Pride (obviously) Crocodile - Greed (obviously) Doflamingo - Wrath (obviously) Moria - Gluttony? (I was originally having him as sloth because he's lazy af but he's also literally a glutton for power and shadows) Boa - Lust (obviously) Kuma - Sloth? (bears are associated with sloth as well as gluttony but irony because he's now a slave and has always been working for others even though he's a king) Jinbe - Envy? (fishman wants to live on land and stuff like that) That being said I think it was more animal theming then anything Mihawk (Hawk), Crocodile (Crocodile), Doflamingo (Flamingo), Moria (Komori aka bat), Boa (Boa), Kuma (Kuma aka Bear), and Jinbe (Jinbei-zame aka Whale Shark) then Blackbeard (Hippopotamus, Greed), Buggy (Panda, Greed), Law (Seal, Envy?), and Weevil (Weevil, Sloth definitely)
I disagree Boa Hancock and the Kuja would definitely have defeated the Marines of they had attacked Amazon Lilly even if Blackbeard and Rayleigh didn’t show up
I think it's funny you mention people fall asleep with my videos playing when I just woke up from your video playing, I went to sleep from you talking about crocodile, to waking up with you talking about white beards son. I honestly just need background noise to take naps... full on sleeping I need absolute silence.
My biggest question in all of this. Is how did the government not instantly kill law when he showed up at marineford with the hearts? I thought that fruit was so mega rare, that even the gorosei wanted it? So when that person shows up at your front door, with the warlord application, why wouldnt you just kill him and take his fruit that very second anyway?
Just cause I wanna comment it as it’s in my mind: We know Kuma gave his autonomy away for Bonney’s safety like 3ish years ago. I think they asked Ace before getting Kuma locked in
Oh my God taking you just made my day I was watching your video on my way to work. Can I just heard you say that my second favorite one piece characters holiday is on my birthday🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉.
My take on 7 sins (obvious to least and primary/secondary) Lust- bug... um... I mean Boa Sloth/gluttony - onion boi Pride/wrath - mihawk Greed/lust (for power) - crocodile Envy/pride - Jimbe Wrath/gluttony - flamingo Acedia - kuma (wild card) Only BB fits the build for primary gluttony but he isn't one of the original 7. The problem is want (lust greed envy and gluttony) often lead to wrath. That and Oda's characters aren't one dimensional enough to be displayed as one "sin" alone.
1:35:36 ironic you say that because I was watching this earlier while eating my dinner as I usually do and fell asleep before I got to Doflamingo and here I am went back to finish 😭
Honestly in terms of timeline for the title existing... I think the Four Emperors is similar. I don't think the title existed until after Roger died. I think Big Mom, Kaido, Shanks and Whitebeard were the first to bear the title.
Honestly, I think the seven sins are as follows: boa (lust for obvious reasons), crocodile (greed), Moria (sloth) , doflamingo (wrath), jimbe (pride, he's a man of honor to the extremes, willing to fight big mom when he didn't have to), mihawk (gluttony as he is unable to find a worthy opponent to satisfy his desire for a great fight again, see him and shanks interacting, and Kuma as (envy??? He's got too much going on to say for sure. I could see him and jimbe switch sin). Just a thought, what do you think?
I think Mihawk fits sloth better as he was just content floating around on his little boat and not engaging in anything else besides waiting for Zoro to get strong enough to challenge him.
i don't really think the 7 sins thing fits. mihawk for example mostly chills on his island, he's not constantly seeking a worthy opponent and doesn't really display an insatiable lust for battle or anything like say, zaraki kenpachi from bleach. even the honour/ pride thing doesn't really work since honour is about doing the right thing to keep your reputation whereas pride is about trying to look good in other people's eyes by any means necessary, they are similar, but also different enough that you kinda have to stretch the meaning of the words to make it fit. also some of the warlords can have more than one sin applied to them. for example for boa, pride can also apply since she holds herself above everyone else or for doffy, you could apply envy since he's envious of the celestial dragons and wants to live like them
Also I wonder if Ms. Buckingham made Weevil using Whitebeard, Queen and Judge's DNA? I mean Judge's hair is the style of Weevil's hair, he ONLY has Whitebeards White Mustache thing, and he has Queen's Body type.
The Warlords have been a favorite sect/organization I've loved since I started getting into One Piece. Each character has such big moments/importance and while they as a group no longer exist in One Piece I still enjoy hearing about them whenever Oda brings them up in new chapters.
Agreed, as a rule I like when organizations such as this one exist in anime and this is one of my favorites (don't ask me my exact favorite, I am not good at determining those kinds of things). I enjoy seeing them when they are brought up or when they do something that makes the story focus on them.
I never thought about it, but it might be possible the WG knew about Crocodile's activity in Alabasta. They did despise the Nefartari Family for not joining the rest of the Tenryubito. Perhaps allowing Crocodile to operate there was punishment to the Nefartaris. After all, they wouldn't be dealing with that if they were in Mariejois
Tekking i have a theory that the Warlord system was invented after Roger And Garp teamed up to defeat the Rocks pirates, even tho it was not made public the government saw that the could set hold on the most dangerous pirates with help from other strong pirates, which ended up being true
Dracule Mihawk aka the TOP G: Doesn't have a crew Doesn't care about world politics Has a comically large sword but uses a butter knife Disrespects a Yonko to his face calling him a coward for sacrificing his arm for the MC Helps a person that wants to kill him to get stronger because he wants a challenge and is bored Sails the Grand Line in the smallest boat possible.Pirate ships, navy ships and sea kings still refuse to engage him Is neither a marine nor a pirate, yet both fear him equally. Lives in a castle and spends his days daydrinking, beating up monkeys and clapping Perona He's just *HIM*
