I studied Reich as part of a psychotherapy course I did in Cambridge. Initially I thought his ideas were amazing. However after a few years of engaging in therapy partly based on his philosophy I started to see that they were useless and not grounded in anything substantial. I’m glad I moved on!
After reading his biography on wiki I thought the same. He could have new knowledge and open the door to a new field, but then his contemporaries all rejected him even Einstein.

Salam, actually „ch“ can be pronounced in both ways, depending on which vowel it is preceded by. In this case the speaker is pronouncing it correctly. If „ch“ is preceded by an „a“ or „u“, it is pronounced like خ.

Just quickly regarding the discussion around minute 41 and shaykh Ahmed's affirmation that in the Maliki school a woman would be entitled to some sort of a compensation if by her daily chores she allowed her husband to gain more money : this is not correct. What can be said is that with or without her doing the house chores, or a maid doing it or a slave, if the husband becomes richer, the woman might see an increase in nafaqah. But this is related to the rules of nafaqah, not to her freeing up time from his agenda allowing him to earn more. Ultimately in the Maliki school the house chores are a duty of the wife, with some details discussed in the books of fiqh.

I've ONLY had, in my now 10th year since converting, contact with the Quran, and no other Muslim material or community. No Hadith until very recently. No mosque other then three isolated visits to three different mosques. And no contact with Muslims in my country (I only have my two very long trips to India and a trip to Europe... Where I had encounter after enounted with the most wonderful people I'd ever met in my life, who all happened to be Muslim). So, I've lived this exceptionally isolated Westerm Muslim convert experience. From exposure through friends from 22 to now nearly thirty-six having converted 9/10 years ago. And just recently... I had heard that a hadith compares women to swine, or being as low as swine or of that nature. So I am asking you all Brothers and Sisters, do you think this Hadith is from Allah? Have I misquoted? Hadith is just what prophet muhammad did, said or approved of. Only the Quran is from Allah. Also, there is no such Hadith that u quoted. Do search online as all strong and weak Hadiths are online. Rather the prophet said that the best of men are those that are best to their wives. Paradise lies at mothers feet and someone who takes care of and educates their daughter to adulthood and marries them off will have a gate to heaven opened for them. Plz do check if sources are credible for any info u encounter. A simple google search would get u detailed information.
The general ruling in the Hanafi school is that the wife should cook and clean if she's from that class previous to marriage. The Sheikh doesn't mention this nuance.

I disagree that the wife should get financial compensation from her husband. The two are working together towards the same goal. The husband’s income is spent to shelter and provide for his entire family. That compensation is not going towards his personal selfish pleasures. Even when the family goes on vacation, that vacation is financed by the husband. In return the wife supports the family by educating and nurturing the children and preparing them for the future, as well as turning their house into a home.

Well, the Quran categorically states that a prophet was sent to every nation but it is only the ones whose stories contain moral and life lessons that are mentioned in the Quran because the purpose of Allah's book is guidance not just telling stories for the sake of telling stories. But if you're interested there are Muslim scholars that speculate that Buddha and Zoroaster are prophets because there are signs that indicate that they use to teach in the believe in One God before there religion got corrupted with time. Thanks for the discussion. There is value in looking at “sexual revolution” in the context of a Muslim individual and their Muslim family and society. Such as being more conscious about feeling guilty or wrong for having sexual feelings, and how that can affect our physical and energetic bodies. Just to note. Wilhelm Reich was not an expert on philosophy or religion. So critiquing him purely on that, we can loss the value and nuance in a lot of his work and discoveries. I’ve read Wilhelm Reich, and there’s a lot to be gained from his work. As a Muslim, I would not throw or dismiss his work. His work has a lot of value. If that was the case, we should dismiss most of mainstream scientists as it mainly secular. He critiqued the religious institution (in the context of Catholic Austrian) at the time, and diagnosed that Hitler’s internal sexual religious conflict was what materalised into his physical/psychological state, (basically a constipated lunatic). As mentioned, would should take his social, philosophical and political conjectures with a pinch of salt. His fallacious claims on religion does not invalidate all of his claims. His main focus was is on psychiatry which lead to discoveries of energetics, which came from 25 years of studying psychiatric patients. He discovered the connection between the orgasm, and neurosis. And how inability to orgasm leads to neurosis. He specifically talks about the conflict between religious conservatism and desire, and how they can manifest as neurosis. I’m a Muslim, and I’m reading about scientific discoveries from people like Wilhelm Reich, and I think Muslims can also benefit from it even though it’s secular materials.
