When talking about comic book adaptations of The Shadow one cannot ignore Howard Chaykin's The SHADOW: BLOOD AND JUDGMENT, a 4 issue prestige format mini series! Published in the 1980s,the series was a big hit and sparked an interest in the character for a new generation of fans!
of course the Shadow knows who the Shadow is, that like saying only Batman knows who Batman is. I think you meant, "Who Knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men. The Shadow Knows." :)

Appreciate this one! Along with Doc Savage, The Shadow is one of my fave pulp heroes. First knew him via the 1970s DC Shadow comics. Personally, I think the Shadow's way better than Batman.
Speaking of the D.C. Comics version of the Shadow, that picture of him with his twin pistols looming over the city (at around the 1:10 mark) is actually the front cover of the first D.C. "Shadow" issue from 1973. I know that because I had that issue when I was 13 years old. It was a story called "The Doom Puzzle." I also used to have the "Batman" issue where the "Dark Knight" (as Batman is called today) meets the Shadow. It was a tale where the latter assists the former in breaking up a counterfeiting ring in a small town out in the West (Batman at first doesn't know the Shadow is helping him, but slowly begins to realize that it's so; he doesn't find out for sure until the very end). There was one rather ridiculous segment where Bruce Wayne (Batman's secret identity) meets Lamont Cranston at the hotel where he's staying. After speaking with him, Wayne/Batman gets the idea that Cranston is the mastermind behind the counterfeiting gang! This is why I say it's ridiculous, because we all know that Lamont Cranston is the Shadow! Anyway, it turns out that the real counterfeiting boss is the old man who owns and runs the hotel. A few scenes after capturing the crook, Batman finally gets to meet the Shadow face to face, which gives the "Caped Crusader" a chance to tell the "Master of other men's minds" that "you were my foremost inspiration." By the way, I'm actually reading a hardcover version of the "Hitler's Astrologer" story.

Moon Knight is probably a combination of The Shadow and Batman! In his back up stories in HULK magazine, "Moon Knight" artist Bill Sienkiewicz was still imitating Neal Adams!
Indeed, The Batman's costume was originally going to be RED and BLACK, a color scheme influenced by The Shadow! While Kane and Finger went in another direction, Bruce Timm and Paul Dini revised the color combo for their futuristic BATMAN BEYOND!
*actually the phantom was the inspiration for many of the **_"underwear over the tights"_** heroes that came out of the 30s and 40s. cowls, secret lairs, detective skills, etc.*
Amen to that. Go thru as many of the radio shows you can find on RU-vid or whatever, and the amount of cool REALLY becomes apparent. This is a character that still has relevant stories people would want to hear and see. Someone even did a treatment that portrays Lamont and Margo's son Harry starting to follow in his mysterious father's footsteps. THAT would be SO FRIGGIN' AWESOME if that happened, minus any SJW interference. Just think of the possibilities for stories relevant today...

The book they did that went along with the movie was also pretty good if you can find it, going into some of his history ect, I was lucky enough to find it at a second hand bookstore

I actually liked the Alec Baldwin Shadow movie. With that being said, it would be absolutely amazing to get a rebooted live action movie that’s a more faithful adaptation of the Shadow. He’s such a cool character and because DC/WB can’t seem to make a great Batman movie that showcases the character perfectly, it would be perfect to get that quintessential Shadow film.
Wonderful. I'm so glad I don't know everything, butthen when I do learn something new it's So enjoyable. The Shadow team-up adventure MASKS sure to look to be worthwhile read.
The movie was ok. They combined the shadow from the pulp and the shadow from the radio together. I wish they hadn't done that, and made the film more faithful to the pulp.
I loved the Shadow movie with Alex Baldwin. I love those Pulp hero movie that came out about that time The Shadow, The Phantom, The Rocketeer (don't watch the new TV series if you are fan of the movie it is girly kiddy tripe). Going back further the Doc Savage man of bronze movie is a lot of fun but I will admit a little cheesy. I would love to see these characters get another movie outing especially the Shadow or even the proposed Doc Savage movie starring the Rock Dwayne Johnson with bleach blonde hair would be a sight to see.
I'm glad you liked the movie "The Shadow," with Alec Baldwin. Most of the film critics didn't like it, though. But I saw it years ago, when I rented a VHS tape of it from Blockbuster Video (remember those? Ahh, memories!), and my parents and I didn't think it was so bad. I heard that the Doc Savage character was the inspiration for Superman. Is that true?
@@michaelpalmieri7335 He's generally considered to be an inspiration for superman coming out about 3 years beforehand but looking at his skills, equipment and abilities he is closer to Batman (super rich, peek of physical condition, martial artist, genius and detective.).
If handled correctly, I believe The Shadow would have a home in today's climate as a crime detective procedural. It actually has the potential to be a good, stylized modern-day noir series ala SIN CITY if someone in Hollywood has the balls enough to do it justice. He's certainly more accessible for TV than Batman since DC and WB can't make up their minds on actually making a Batman TV series due to having that titular character bringing bank as a movie franchise.
I loved it too! They tried to blend the radio and the magazine stories together. In the short stories The Shadow is more a ninja than an invisible mystic. He uses some of the same techniques. The cloak is there to break up his outline in the shadows. And his jinking while he moved in combat was to throw the bad guys aim off.
The Shadow met Terry and the Pirates and POPEYE? Isn't that a little silly? It would be like Madonna meeting the original Madonna, by which I mean the Virgin Mary, the mother of Jesus.
Are we not gonna mention that the Shadow served as a clear inspiration for the character Cybersix even down to the look of the red/black cape and fedora? Cause that in it of itself was a great comic and you can see where A went to B
My mom loved the movie..it's how I found it..Him along with ninja "rule of cool" is why I have a soft spot for long scarves..impractical as all get out for crime fighting or stealth especially when you wear a bright red scarf while everything else is jet black..but dang if it don't cut an image..also in the Fallout series of games...Fallout 4 specifically there is The Silver Shroud who is based on the Shadow as well, complete with his own radio drama for the time which you can listen to during a specific quest line to get his outfit..and it will even change your dialog options for certain characters and a fan created Shroud Manor complete with hidden rooms is available from the creation club..it's one of my favorite quest lines to go through in the game.

@2:35 The book that covered the movie with Alec Baldwin actually mentioned that he wasn't really Lamont Cranston, but had assumed his identity. They were almost twins and had come in contact with each other once. When Lamont found out what he was doing he wanted no part of it and disappeared again.
There's talk that DC will do a Black Label studio to continue movies such as Joker. Shadow would be a great idea. BUT it has to be Noir siumply because no one can impersonate a billionaire in a large city in the 21st century
I really really love the shadow he is my all time biggest favourite old school superhero I just can't get enough of him his origin is awesome as Well you know the Motto who knows were evil lurks in the hearts of men The shadow Knows!
You are now one of my agents, like others all around the world... God, wouldn't THIS be a kick in the butt for kids today? Drop the f---book and grab your imaginations, kids!

The movie wasn’t bad it had the “ look “ perfectly. I just wish Alec Baldwin had taken the role seriously the same way Michael Keaton took the Batman role seriously. Alec is just sleepwalking through the role that could’ve been an iconic role for him. He didn’t understand the weight of the role. It’s shame cause Alec had the look.

Can I watch this. I am 53,but with a kid like mentality... HA!HA!HA! WOW! More than I ever knew. But why is this not a Netflix,Hulu,or Amazon prime show yet. Two men being the same person. That would be KOOL!!! I know that is not the radio Shadow, but mix the radio and com-x together. That would be good. Like the Esp. man.
@@ComicgeddonTV My deep honour. I think that Fantomas would made a tremendous opponent to The Shadow : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Q1G2iaDIZ3k.html
"The Shadow knows" everything I want to reconnect with and know the only true victories and distinct abilities of our unstoppable mystic vigilante. "HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA, HA!" Stay safe everyone!

I have been searching for a comic cover of The Shadow with just an American Flag depicted on the front . I caught a glimpse of it featured in the HBO show, The Pacific ep 5. Can't find the issue anywhere. If anyone knows what it's about or where I can find it , please let me know! Thanks ;)

DC comics does not own the publishing rights to use him. They have to borrow the rights in order to use the Shadow in comics like they did in the 80's... If you watch the entire video, it tells you who owns the rights to the Shadow... Currently Dynamite Entertainment has a licensing agreement in order to publish comics based on The Shadow.
nope, as long as he's being continually published he can't go into the public domain... This is how Disney characters have remained out of the public domain. Walt Disney hired a legal team years back to lobby for a change in copyright and public domain laws.
@@ComicgeddonTV www.grunge.com/165037/popular-characters-that-will-soon-be-public-domain/ I don't know. I think there time will be up soon according to this. It checks out.
I would like to see some continue, something like a mix between old one and new movies like Kin. Kin was interesting movie where timeshift soldier lost his weapon, and some random kid found it
