One of the Shadows best vocals. Interestingly enough, a new CD, The Shadows Live at the BBC, is due to be released this month, featuring radio performances from 1965-1973.
If this had been released by anyone else, these days it would be regarded as a semi-freakbeat classic. Great guitars, beaut vox from Hank and them Burns guitars are always pleasing to the eye. Are there other songs available from this edition of TOTP, Peter?
Yeah ive heard about this before. Great to see. Not my favourite track. But worth seeing to see Hank singing. Isn't this from the Bob Pratt collection?
Been wanting to see this for years! Cheers. Also thanks for keeping Savile in at the beginning, he may be a despicable person, but he was a part of history and should not be erased.
Speaking of Jimmy Savile, do you happen to have the Shadows 1975 appearance on Jim'll Fix It singing 'Run Billy Run' with Cliff Richard? It does exist in the BBC archive but I can't see it ever being shown again by them!
@@dlwseattle Spoken by someone who's clearly missing the point... Do we remove Hitler when watching or discussing WWII? No we don't. Unfortunately Savile was an regular part of the UK music scene and it would be a huge disservice to his victims to edit him out of history and pretend like he never existed. He NEED'S to be there, as a clear reminder that evil can lurk in all places and so nothing like that ever happens again. Censorship is never the answer.
Hi Peter the only time it was repaired on TV apart from the original broadcast was on the 900th edition of top of the pops when the original four presenters reunited
@@peterchecksfield9958 Have all three versions, and I have to say, Frankie's version is the best. The Shads and Move you expect to kill this material, Frankie - no. But Frankie does.
I worked with Alan Howard the blond guitarist a few years ago ...Nice guy still looking well we reminisced about these days ...he was a hearse driver for the company in hainault Essex
Yes but after a 15 year gap, what I meant was by 1965 thier initial wave of constant hits ended. They broke up and reformed, so the late 70s was a generation later. Entire Genres of musical styles came and went in between that time period
What's interesting is the shadows were originally signed as a vocal instrumental group, and released a couple of vocal songs that failed to chart, so reluctantly went into a genre that made them famous, instrumentals, despite this vocal song being a big hit, they didn't follow up with another
