Every shot featuring the mechanical Great White in the 1978 sequel to Spielberg's classic. In the nearly 2hr running time, the shark has just over 5 minutes of actual screen time.
It's a very dumbed down version of the first film. With a director that did not have the film making skill and talent that Steven had. Jaws is a classic. Jaws 2 is product.
I was a kid when this show came out. The movie was awesome and I had the poster for Jaws 2 on the back of my bedroom door. It was a scene of late day with the sun starting to go down, a lot of orange, black and yellowish hues. There was a huge shark fin breaking the water and the heading read 'Just When You Thought It Was Safe To Go Back In The Water '. Great movies, great memories!
I remember that one. I was 13 and saw it with a few other coming soon posters at the local theater. The more common one is the version featuring the water skier with the shark towering behind her
I never realized that the shark is only visible for 5 min in the entire movie wich is like 1.50 h long.... :) And I still love it... :) Jaws is the best, then it's this one... :)
Happy 45th Anniversary "JAWS 2" (JUNE 16, 1978) Anniversary!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (R.I.P. Peter Benchley and Roy Scheider)
I saw the first matinee on Sat June 17. Line-up was massive and the movie started 20m late. My buddy and I were both 13 and thought it was better than the original. Clearly we were dumb teens at the time 😄 I still enjoy it but it's no match for Spielberg's classic.
@@davehug5405 Well, if you look at the scene where Hopper is in the cage at the climax of the first Jaws, then you’ll see the live great white footage.
I'll tell you why: because in the past, movies were made to look as realistic as possible, and now most movies are pumped up with computer effects and filmmakers get carried away with fantasy.
Although not as good as the first, this movie has one of my favorite scenes of all time, the shark arriving in Amity in the rain. Brody was fucking awesome as always
I agree, it's a great sequence. It was shot by the film's original director, John Hancock. As far as I know, it's the only footage he directed that made it into the finished film.
@@chiefscheider hum, it makes sense, most of the other shark scenes in this movies are in close ups and action packed. But this one is quiet and suspenseful, but really affective
It’s funny how despite the fact that the original Jaws came out in 1975, almost 50 years ago, the shark in that first … and in my opinion best ! movie of all four that were made , looks the most realistic of them all !
This movie has my favourite scene of all jaws movies. The camera shows it's rainning, and the sea is calm. Them we see the shark calmly swimming, arriving in Amity, as the theme kicks in. The simplicity of it is the stuff of legends, it's something as the same level of the first movie.
And dumb and inefficient, meaner? It was the best sequel out the bunch but damn the shark in jaws 2 would have been a real dumb ass, if they put it in the original film
It was a deleted scene but the shark was actually going for another one of the teens (forget his name, the one who wears the flat cap). Anyway the shark ends up munching on him. There is pics of him laying on the over turned boat and the shark about to surface at him
One thing that bothers me is that everyone calls Jackie annoying for screaming. Like yeah I’m going to be screaming when a 25 foot shark is attacking me while I’m on a raft!
You wouldn't be doing yourself, or your mates, any favours....like ringing the dinner bell 😂. Sharks are attracted to sound/vibrations. Screaming ain't helping
@@horrorfanandy4647 The best shot of the film for me too, and the only shot of John Hancock’s footage that remains. Would’ve loved to know what film he would’ve made had he not been fired.
@@flatfootedrunner That this shot is entirely Hancock’s is not too surprising to me. Jeannot Szwarc was competent, but his direction doesn’t particularly stand out as something to marvel at, he got the job done and the film we got is good, but I think Hancock could have really elevated the material a step higher and made it his own, the same way Spielberg did on the original.
@@flatfootedrunner Thing is, in the first two weeks of shooting the producers and Universal execs looked at the dailies and realized that Hancock didn't know what he was doing. Crew members said that the set was disorganized and he was indecisive about how to shoot things.
@@chiefscheider I was 11 when I saw it and at a drive-in. 😄 My parents took me and my brother to see it. What is funny is my parents made us cover our eyes when the girl in the beginning was naked. Can't see a naked girl, but can see human flesh being torn to pieces. 🤣
Ha I love it! Parents will always be weird about nudity but graphic violence is somehow okay 😁 We also went to the drive-in but on opening weekend it was sold out. We had to wait til week 2. Why we didn't just go to the theater during the week I have no idea lol
Jaws 1 or 2 have nothing on the award winning acting, and cutting edge.special effects of jaws 3.. i mean cmon, it was a masterpeice.. all of the actors should have won awards.. and the realism of that shark, geez. . It still gives me nightmares today .. the only other shark film that comes close to this legendary films is SHARKNADO!
My cousins and I saw this the summer this came out. Next we found out L wouldn't use the bathroom alone, because Jaws might come through the t--let. We teased hm for a long time.
Really sad that a crane animatronic with very limited movements can scare so well, while movies made today look like a clown class of unrealistic animation.
Brilliant movie and when people say sharks ain't killers ..yes they are its in their nature and we are entering their territory by goin in the sea which is our fault...
They make jaws a man eater, but sharks in real life don’t give a damn about us they just continue their business unless we bother them or get them pissed off
@[ YT ] Dreamers2 I wouldn't be so sure that some sharks aren't maneaters. Some accounts I've read about great white attacks Indicate long after the shark attacked and the realization that the person they hit wasn't their usual prey item, they still displayed aggression to the point of following the recue parties. I think it depends on the shark or the situation or both.
@@katelynthewhitewerewolf6376 They're more likely to attack, as well as hammerheads, but you cannot play down how dangerous a curious great white can be. One mistake by them is likely to lead to death.
@@chiefscheider I'll bet she thanks you for that 😂 If you REALLY want to wind her up, next time stand on the landing and shout: "WE'RE GONNA NEED A BIGGER TUB!!!" 😂
I read that the producers specifically put the dead killer whale scene in the movie as a response to the movie Orca. In Orca, the whale kills a great white shark and the director put that in as a shot at Jaws.
It's an okay movie, but one thing always bothered the hell out of me: why does nobody in this movie bleed? You gonna show people getting eaten, you have to show the blood.....
@@ABSOLUTgarbage I get what you're saying, and it makes financial sense, but it is to the detriment of the movie. Not that I particularly enjoy watching people bleed out, it's just it's not realistic to show what sharks can do and yet avoid the closeups and the blood and gore. a movie has to be very, very good to imply carnage without actually showing it. And Jaws 2 is, when compared to Jaws, just not that good.
@@ABSOLUTgarbage If the original got a PG rating, then it just goes to show you that in the space of just a few years the US ratings board must've got very conservative and very squeamish....coz there ain't a teaspoon of blood or realistic shark attack visuals in the whole movie! Still loved it though....
The original kept me out of the sea for 2 years after watching it, and I lived 300 m from the beach at that time - in a part of the world where these beautiful animals do kill and eat people, quite regularly in fact....
@@patrickniehus3132 You have to remember that exploitation horror movies took off in the three years between Jaws and Jaws 2. In the UK I believe both have been re-classified upwards as 12/12A. In Jaws 3D it's even worse, almost no blood on screen, and Jaws: The Revenge there's lots of blood comparitively.
I know it's only natural to scream in panic during a shark attack, but that one girl screaming every second at glass-breaking level is so annoying. You can't enjoy feeling the nail-biting suspense cause of the screaming. Great montage though, loved it. Now that I've watched thus, it made me think they made this shark bigger than all the rest in the franchise. I'm probably wrong.
Well the jaws 3 shark was bigger! But yes this was nail biting when I watched it in the 80s! Even today If you were sat beside me on the sofa I’d be like “hey we both comfy on sofa but I’m not gonna reach for those Doritos on the coffee table..just knock them with your toes and hope for the best” 😬
