Something you should keep in mind as you play more gen 3 is because enemy trainers use items more consistantly, you can play around that. There were a couple times in the drake fights where it would have been better to set up another howl while drake heals, which would guarantee a 1 shot on the following turn and carry better ranges for future pokemon. Same thing in thay fight you survived the gyarados with 1hp. Howl on the heal and you probably would have knocked out both gyarados and milotic in 1 hit

I'm really curious to see how the Slaking line would stack up. For 2 reasons. One is maybe a VS video between Vigoroth and Slaking? To see if Truant really sucks so much that it can make a much "weaker" preevo go faster? And two is I'm wondering just how utterly horrible Slakoth is going to be, with even worse stats than Vigoroth coupled by Truant too.

GO KYLE!! For Wattson, you might generally find the battle easier if you need to set up, to do it on the Electrike, if at all possible. It loves to set up howl, can't paralyze you unless you attack it, and also hits less hard than any other Pokémon on his team

While I can understand why some viewers may not enjoy them, I actually think it helps get to know the game better and thus improve your own play in subsequent runs. Watching you learn from mistakes and optimize your routing for each Pokémon is why I enjoy the channel so much. Keep up the great work Scott!

Emerald guy returns! I noticed something that came up consistently in the later portions of the run, that I'd like to advise you on. When you were getting Pokemon to low-HP and triggering the AI to use a Full Restore, you *know* that this heal is coming. You can take this opportunity to set up another Howl and secure a KO on your next attack. This not only saves PP, but probably would have prevented a lot of resets as you ran into this situation on sequential Pokemon, just spamming Return when you had a clear out and path to victory had you chosen to take advantage of this opportunity. I'm glad to hear about the future of Emerald videos on your channel - this game is dear to my heart. I'm looking forward to Seviper and Zangoose. I've always liked Seviper and it having unique access to Poison Tail will be interesting to watch. Zangoose is my fav Pokemon, so I'm naturally excited about that.

This was a lot of fun honestly! I'm glad Kyle did pretty okay as well. Obviously its completely perfect Attack stat helped out a bunch but Howl is just a pretty decent move overall. It'll be really interesting to watch you go through re-does, because there are definitely some older playthroughs that I think can get big time improvements. Like Swampert was done I think almost exactly a year ago, and I think Swampert just has a better time sitting under its belt, especially as its become more and more apparently that 2:15-2:30 is pretty average for Emerald. One minor suggestion for when you go back with Mightyena: you're absolutely right that setting up on the Voltorb against Watson is risky, so you should probably set up against the Electrike instead. I absolutely think that fight is doable at Level 30 and that you probably don't need the extra levels. I'm also thinking about potential Hidden Powers for Mightyena, and the best I can come up with is either Fighting or Ground. One of the big issues with Skarmory is that initially its weaknesses seem bad for it, as Fire and Electric are special typings and Skarmory has bad Sp.Def, but that also means that for physical Pokemon, there's no good coverage moves available to hit Skarmory with. You're always doing only neutral damage, and that's so difficult to deal with.
@grinbrothers
@grinbrothers Год назад
Hooray; it's finally time for Kyle to shine... literally in his case! I remember you catching this golden hyena and it's awesome to see the planned video come to fruition. 1:00 - Run Away really needs a bonus effect, like always wins speed-ties or something. 1:58 - Perfect Attack IVs and Adamant Nature is a pretty good draw for a Poochyena. Shame the Speed and Special Attack are so low but at least it can hit like a truck with it's potential Normal, Ground, Ghost and Steel moves. A shame there's no way for to gain the Egg Move of Poison Fang. 4:15 - Kyle grew up so fast. Awesome to see the 2D artwork to the side change at the same time, and as you note, that the colour scheme remains consistent with the evolution. Poochyena/Mightyena have a surprisingly cool shiny look. 7:47 - Fantastic planning with the Howl set-up. The CPU sure do love to set-up in turn despite having a type advantage. I assume Kyle is also currently garbed with a Silk Scarf here. 9:19 - Dig is only available after Watson? That is annoying. I always remember it being pretty handy that you can discover it before Whitney (interrupting her Rollout), though that does require going out of your way to search for it. They should have done something similar with Dig being available but tucked away so you have to look for it. 12:02 - The zoom-in made that way more tense than that needed to be. Lack of good moves seem to be the dilemma at the moment so hopefully you'll gain access to some good TMs at this point. A stronger Normal move is certainly needed to take advantage of that good Attack stat. 14:57 - Huh, everything went perfectly well first time... kind of expected something to go wrong after your statement of confidence. 17:26 - Also manages to hit with Supersonic. I swear the CPU just have a more accurate version of that move. I assume you have no Persim Berries both here and back against Norman's Spinda (though luckily, you didn't need it back then). 18:14 - I've barely seen mention of the Wobbuffet guy and he already has his own artwork. Odd choice to have artwork made for a trainer you're specifically avoiding. 20:19 - That's a relief. Lunatone and Xatu are lacking in offensive moves I see; foolish mistake to have your singular attack option be something that has immunity to it (never leave your Pokémon with only a Normal/Fighting/Poison/Psychic/Dragon/Ghost/Electric as their only attack option). 22:09 - Ah yes, the Sootopolis freezer basement filled with women... not weird at all. Cute cat story though; I understand being distracted by that. 23:35 - I mean, not like you many other viable options. Crunch won't work too well given your reduced Special Attack, Hyper Beam requires charging afterwards and Iron Tail is inaccurate. I feel you've got the best move-set given your stat line-up. 27:04 - I'm impressed with you and Kyle here; I was expecting Glacia to be a roadblock you'd face in the Elite Four but you easily overcame her. Who would have expected Sidney to be the guy posing a challenge. 28:46 - Out of curiosity, would a Shell Bell work better than a Sitrus Berry here. I was thinking of that as you suffered from the chip damage per Pokémon (and assuming finding a Leftovers is difficult as ever to find). 33:55 - Yeah, Gyarados was already good enough as is but they allow it to learn a strange variety of powerful moves on top of it's powerful base move-set. You'd think an easy way to balance powerful Pokémon would be to give them less varied move-pools but nope; the stronger ones tend to be able to learn a lot. 37:22 - I did focus on the screen. Funny seeing Water Spout do so little. 38:56 - Okay; Iron Tail wasn't even an option for those earlier fights then. 41:13 - Oh wait; Iron Tail is actually going to be used. It's such a low accuracy move that I've seen few folks try it out so I've long been curious about seeing someone try to make use of it. I do think this will work out better than Crunch, what with Steel being super effective against Steven's Rock types. Claydol might remain an issue though. 44:21 - Victory! Whilst I do think Shadow Ball would have worked out better (shame Wallace forced your hand there), it was awesome to see Iron Tail in action.
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon

Do remember that Steel resists Ghost in generations 2-5. So Shadow Ball wouldn't have been that good against Steven. I do think it would have been better to have it though.

So I said this on a different video somewhere, but the fact almost all the dark moves in the game at this point in the series are clearly _physical_ attacks like Bite and Crunch, despite being classified as Special, makes me think they were considering doing a physical/special split before Gen 4 ever came out
@shirounshiroun7555
@shirounshiroun7555 Год назад

@KainaX122

@@shirounshiroun7555 yeah, I find that odd, too. I know the rule of thumb is that all the eeveelutions line up with the types that are classified as Special before the split (except dragon) but I think that’s more of a coincidence than a reason. I don’t know their reasoning for making Ghost Physical
@Missingn0mast3r
@Missingn0mast3r Год назад
@@KainaX122its literally just the move Lick. It was the only damage dealing Ghost move that used your stats in RBY, so ghost moves were physical. The only ghost move that actually changed to special in gen 4 was shadow ball, all the others stayed physical or were status moves. Why they didn't just change ghost to special and have dark be physical is confusing for SO many reasons.
@shreeble7113
@shreeble7113 Год назад
A "funny" thing about Dark considering the Physical/Special split in Gen 4. ALL damage-dealing Dark moves from Gens 1-3 (Bite, Beat Up, Crunch, Feint Attack, Pursuit, Thief and Knock Off) switched from Physical to Special in Gen 4 so that the only Special Dark move in that gen is Dark Pulse. The other types where something similar applys are Fighting, where every early move stayed Physical and Psychic, where every move stayed Special.

Zangoose Vs. Seviper should be interesting, if for no other reason than that Zangoose has the Erratic growth rate (extremely slow early on but very fast in the late game), while Seviper has the Fluctuating growth rate (extremely fast at first but becomes very slow in the late game). And given that Zangoose will likely struggle with Roxanne and Brawly while Seviper will struggle with Steven, they're both going to face at least one massive hurdle during their slow growth periods.

Drake's team apparently can receive a high chance to one shot the entire team(except salamance), with the attack stat, when the the attack is a over 300. I noticed that your Mightyena had 298 attack, the whole team either oneshot, or in the case of the last two pokemon, really small red bar consistently. Just thought I'd share that. So if you ever revist the pokemon, two to three howls should be more than enough. Hope this helps.

One thing you can do, when facing enemies while having a set up move like Howl or Meditate or Calm Mind, is if you deal just barely not enough damage to KO and you're confident they'll use a healing item, instead of using your attacking move again and likely still 2-shotting them, use your set up move again. It will still take 2 turns to KO the enemy, but now you're boosted further and less likely to have the same thing happen against later mons on the team. This would have helped you against multiple trainers in the E4 this video.

This was super fun! I think Shadow Ball outperforms Crunch in every single situation given your stats (against normal types you’d have other options). A perfect Mightyena could have HP Fighting for Steven, would have made it way easier than Dig (since it hits fliers and doesn’t risk boosted Earthquake).

Ho got multiple here, but a true 1v1 full life is impressive \o/ I love this thing since it carried me trough Emerald late game (the fighting area) It's crazy what he can do with his unique typing and barely ok stats And he is always funny to look at. Can't stop imagining him dancing, especially after a win, with his smug duck face and hairy/fluffy body He look so happy

Wobbuffet fact: Its shiny form changes only the colour of the blue Body, while the tail keeps its colour. This could be a counter argument to the common theory that the tail is the actual pokemon.

I really liked Kyle as a shiny, and illustrated version of it was really adorable, I really liked it had some kind nice dynamics to the character.😊 Kyle wasn't having perfect IVs in all of its stats ,but at least you had 15 attack IVs which is pretty rare, that gave it's physical attacks an edge. But on the other hand Poochiyena's special capabilities are not that great, and especially it is the case with Kyle. Due to that ,you could use stab in gen. Kyle wishes it had the physical/special split in this run. It would be fun seeing it trying a run in omega ruby/sapphire or in gen 4 sometime, just to see how it improved its results.😊

I wouldn't say that Run Away is useless in a solo challenge, just that the use it has is EXTREMELY niche. Basically, it lets you escape Arena Trap and Shadow Tag, which is good if you're running away from battles in an area where Pokemon have those abilities, and also prevents escape failures so it eliminates one form of RNG that may or may not even show up in a run depending on the Pokemon's speed.

It didn't do so bad for a mono-Dark with imperfect stats. Looks like Gen 3 is just that much harder for a solo challenge, you can go without a single reset in Gens 1+2 on some of the better mons but in Gen 3 you haven't seen less than 7 resets (so far). Maybe your Mewtwo vs. Rayquaza at the end of all this could do it?

Having played Silver, I can confidently say that Gen 3 is harder than at least Gen 2. Gen 2 has a high level jump towards the 8th gym, while Gen 3 has an overall more consistent pacing, which requires some grinding between Gyms.
@tsawy6
@tsawy6 Год назад
@@MonkeBrain07 it'll take longer, but it feels a little strange to say that makes it harder. I would suggest that gen 3 is hardest because the game is more complicated, leading to more complex strategies being required and more dangerous enemies

My very first shiny encounter was in gold version, it was a ratatta just Bernie Sanders the daycare centre. Having just finished silver without ever encountering one, i was a little confused (the colour was subtle too). I managed to catch it, and used it a bit, but strongly feared that if i evolved it it would lose its shiny colour. Eventually i found a green zubat, and also feared evolving it

Something that also always needs to be considered: Offensively Dark and Ghost are almost identical, especially prior to the introduction of Fairy-types. Dark and Ghost both only hit super-effectively against Ghost and Psychic. In Gens 2 to 5 Dark is resisted by Dark, Fighting, and Steel, while Ghost is only resisted by Dark and Steel but can't hit Normal-types. So the coverage benefits of running both a Dark and a Ghost type move are almost nonexistent as long as other (neutral) coverage against Dark, Steel, and Normal Pokémon is available.
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Год назад
The biggest difference is Ghost is physical and Dark is special. That’s essentially it. If you have a physical attacker, Ghost and if you have a special attacker, Dark.

Have you ever thought about releasing some RU-vid shorts cut from bigger videos where you just cover things like mechanics (like dark moves being special pre gen 4 etc). I don't think they'd take long to make since you can just splice them out of bigger projects and then you can have them around as references for people to watch
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon
@ScottsThoughtsPokemon Год назад
I have thought about it... I'm personally not a huge fan of short-form content. My goal when searching for content is to find something at least 40 minutes long, hopefully 2-3 hours, and then just sink in and enjoy. So I don't really find myself drawn to making short videos.

I was wondering if Plusle vs Minun would be interesting and the only difference in learnset is that at Lv 28, Minun gets Charm while Plusle gets Fake Tears. Base stats-wise, they have the same numbers just arranged differently - Atk and Def are swapped, and Sp Atk and Sp Def are swapped - giving Plusle slightly higher offence and Minun slightly higher defence. I feel like Plusle would win between the two but it would be close.
