Equilibrium moisture content. In simple term, when the lumber becomes stable because the moisture content and the humidity are equal. There is a great book called The wonders of Wood, if I remember correctly. It's worth the read.

Glad this came in my feed. I’m carpenter down in the cities, but every week the thought of moving my fam north (or to Tennessee or Texas) gets more and more serious lol.

Thanks for the feedback, I will put this into consideration when making future videos. Lower volumes! Or no music. Constructive criticism like this helps us to make better videos for you.

There are sooo many species to pick from. I'll just give you my top 3 Hardwoods and why: 1. Maple (Soft and Hard) Hard Maple is just that, hard. Soft Maple can also do some cool figuring. 2. North American Cherry. Beautiful stuff, Slapsolutely beautiful hands down. 3. Red Elm (new favorite.) 860 on the Janka Scale so it's the softer of the Hardwoods. But the grain pattern is almost unbeatable. A good option that is affordable is Red Oak. it's Cheap, and overused. But it takes stains very well so you can stain it to look like anything. 1220 on the Janka, will be easier on your tools. Ultimately you'll have to take a look at what is readily available in YOUR area, and go from there. Happy Building!
