I am a constant defender of Rocky 5. It’s severely underrated. A great father and son story. As well, it interestingly explores the psychological stage of development, Generativity vs Stagnation. I freaking love Rocky 5.

I love this movie!! A little bit sad for Rocky to lose everything but It's life ,realistic, It's everything Rocky is about. The family difficulties, the strugles, the decay of box, life itself. All those things make Rocky real and authentic. I'm a big Stallone fan, everytime I watch these movies I cry and say proudly. He is one of my biggest heroes! I just love him

Director’s Cut sounds like a good idea, especially after Rocky vs Drago

I love Rocky 5!!! Saw it in theater and the crowd cheered for Rocky at the end. The relationship with his son as well as the return to the roots were a great idea. Plus as a 90's action fan, the final fight taking place in the streets (much influenced by Van Damme' success I believe) is excellent! I agree there are flaws but it's still a great movie!

I think people were disappointed that Rocky didn't have the big fight in the ring. I can understand that, however, there is so much good stuff in this movie. To see a guy who came from the bottom, rise to the top, and then get kicked down to the bottom the way he did is really powerful. Having to go back to the old neighborhood, the brain injury, family stuff, Tommy. Very different from the other films, but It's part of the character's journey and I really enjoy it.

Who else can name 5 movie franchises that gets played on TV at least once a year every year in series mode, with all of its sequels.... number 1. The Back to The Future films, number 2. The Rocky films, number 3. The Godfather films, number 4. The Leathal Weapon films, number 5. The Beverly Hills Cop films.

Me and my brother have always loved Rocky V! I think initially we were just upset to see Rocky go from the top and being an all American hero to being brain damage permanently, unable to fight and broke, but regardless of those issues, the first film was very good and man over the years, have we just ever grown to love this movie I mean I would almost rather watch Rocky five on any day, rather than most of the other ones to be honest.

Rocky 5 really adds to the overall story and the Rocky character. The six films are better for it. We see Rocky lose his money and it shows how tough he is and how strong his relationships really are- even paulie! Plus showing Rocky is an actual street fighter who doesnt sellout.

I have a special place in my heart for this film....it was hard to stomach I was a kid when it came out I'm idolizing Rocky from part 4 riding his Lamborghini living in a mansion and here he is punchy and broke....over the years it grew on me and I think it's actually a great film....it could have been even greater.... there's a scene with little Marie from the original Rocky same actress as Rocky that shows her live up to the prophecy Rocky made in part one that she'll be homeless and on drugs and she'll be a local whore....it was a great powerful scene but did not make the cut....they bring back the Marie character in Rocky Balboa but played by a different actress.... Enjoying Rocky V after Rocky IV is hard because you must endure the downfall of your hero but if you consider the entire Rocky Universe with Rocky Balboa and Creed movies it served a great purpose to put Rocky back in South Philly which is more interesting than seeing him live in a mansion....

At 5.02 seeing Sly with his hair slicked back, glasses, a suit and tie, it's hard to believe this was the same person who looked an absolute machine in Rambo 2.

I’ve always loved Rocky V , had it on vhs 📼 as a kid and watched it a million times, it’s got great elements to it in it’s own right, the scene where he goes to Mickey’s abandoned gym and he’s reminiscing gets me choked up everytime, reminds me of my life with my Grandfather, minus the boxing

All the Rocky movies have been on Netflix for the past few months so I rewatched Rocky 5 for the first time in years. It’s not the best one but definitely deserves more credit than it gets. I caught the part when Stallone says Rantlers instead of antlers while talking about reindeer on the roof. I never noticed it before. Pure gold.

Wow, this movie right here brings back memories, late 90s getting the kitchen done pausing the vhs tape half way and shopping for wood and floor tiles. My favourite in order goes: Rocky 2 Rocky 5 Rocky 1 Rocky 3 Rocky 4

About the ROCKY V Workprint i have it and no the ending where Rocky dies is not in it. The scene where Rocky dies in Adrian arms after the streetfight was unfortunatly never filmed. Here is the section of the script Rocky. Suffering from too many shots in the Head during his boxing career. Has collapsed in Adrian’s arms after one last fight in the streets Of Philadelphia. A POLICEMAN SPEAKS: ’’The ambulance is a Minute away-’’ ADRIAN: When you get to the hospital, you’ll Be all right.’’ ROCKY: ’’My hands are cold.’’ ADRIAN (she takes his hands) : Ill warm them, What ever you want.’’ ROCKY: I don’t want the kid to see me like This.’’ ADRIAN: ’’He woun’t.’’ ROCKY: ’’Adrian,you’re the only thing i ever Loved. I only want us to be happy. Y’know.’’ ADRIAN (pregnant with a girl): ’’I know.When You get better. We’ll go away for a rest and get Ready for the baby,’’ ROCKY: I can’t wait to see my daughter. It’s gonna be great..’’ But,then according to the script: ’Rocky’s Hand slackens in Adrian’s grip and his body Slips into motionless repose. The only hiccup in this movie is Robert going from 6 years old to 12/13 in the span of time that it took them to go train and fight Drago and come back. Did the Soviets hold them for several years due to Rocky winning trying to get Drago to fight Rocky again and not letting Rocky come back to the U.S. until gave Drago a rematch.

Rocky V have definitely grew over the years and it turned on to be a very good movie with some flaws here and there but with a lot of heart and some very memorable scenes as well. And the perfect link between the next film, Rocky Balboa 💪🥊👍

I think ROCKY V was fantastic- I remember the crowds cheering during the fight at the end and I was just a kid when I saw this at the cinema - I was very impressed - This is the order I rate the ROCKY movies, r1,r2,r3,r5,r4,r6, c1, c2 - I think ROCKY 6 was off, It was nowhere near as good as any of the previous Rocky movies. I never thought it was a bad movie and couldn't understand the hate that people gave it - The fight was awesome. Thanks for the awesome content Viking Samurai

Friends, I am suffering from bad depression.. But each single morning I can hear Mickey talk to me yelling: "Get up your sob, because Mickey loves you!!!!!". Then in my heart the music starts to play.... And I get up😢. Rocky movies have done this to me!!!!!! I watched them over and over, every single one. They saved my life!!!!!!!

I love All Rocky movies but Rocky V has been my personal favorite. Rocky VI was a true hommage I must confess but V?? Heart and fire! With that music and scenes... If you would ask me the best, I would say Rocky V, because it was the perfect sequel to the others. Dramatic and heartbreaking? Yes!!! But I worked out every single day on the scene when he told Tommy it's not only about muscle and "ding, ding, ding!!!!!!" "Heart and Fire Tommy!!, Remember, I'm like this angel sitting on your shoulder.... and then came that music: "go for it!" and Tommy started winning. Rocky V is the best movie for me, it learns you so much.... And btw, we will never know who in his prime would be the greatest. Mike Tyson or Tommy Morrison because that guy had a left hook never seen before. I like to think if Morrison got Mike with a left hook bomb, it was game over. But even Mike was afraid to fight him!!!! He said: "too much power!" and stalled the fight against Morrison. Untill this day it has been discussed, Morrison might had the best left hook in boxing history. Thanks to all you fans!

Literally the best movie in my opinion. For a loooong time IV was my favourite, then I kinda also loved III, but I and II had their own flavor, so I couldn't decide which was my #1. But to be honest, although I know not even Sly likes it, I have to say V is THE one, cause it brings everything back full circle. From the humble beginnings, to the flashy mohawks and dinosaur-sized wrestlers, to the over-the-top (pun intended) Sci-Fi universe of talking robots and Russian cyborgs, only to go back to the mean and grey streets of Philly, having nothing in his pocket, all the while being older, with a teenage kid and everyday family struggles, not to mention having now stepped into the '90s . It's like the perfect soup or pizza, adding bits and pieces of everything you ever loved. Except chocolate, that's what Rambo's for 😁.

My friends and I thought there was a lot of classic lines in Rocky 5. "You knocked him down why don't you try knocking me down now"

Lets hope Stallone does a directors cut on it using the workprint as a basis. The soundtrack alone in the workprint makes the film a lot better.

I was 11 years old when Rocky 5 came out in 1990. By me being a 43 year old man I love Rocky 5 movie even still in 2023. The reason I love Rocky 5 is it showed you how his character went threw adversity out side of not being so wealthy man. Good video Viking Samurai.

I saw Rocky 5 in the Theaters when it came out. I agree with the statements said..as a kid I liked it, as a young adult I thought it sucked, but as an older man I think it's not bad.

I hated Rocky V when it first came out. But about a decade later, I binge the entire series. To my surprise, I found that I actually liked it a lot.

Yeah, there's an uncut version of Rocky V floating around on the net. It's a bit darker than the final cut. For one, the opening is way more brutal. They really emphasis the hard hits Rocky took from Drago. There's also some cool scenes that were cut or rewritten. You can see the vision he had for the movie before we ended up with the final product. I like Rocky V, but it could be better. I'm hoping Stallone gets a chance to release another cut and try to do it some justice. Fingers crossed! 🤞

I didn't like that the office trailer for Rocky V, made it seem like Rocky was on his way to getting all his wealth back upon losing it and moving back to the neighborhood. A bit misleading..

"Rocky V" is great now, because it was a parallel to the time: it is the "Mike Tyson" story portrayed in the "Rocky" universe. People, at that time, were depressed about the way things were going. But looking back now, it is poetic.

Rocky 5 is great it captures the real essence of what happens in the hurt business.

Stallone is one of my inspirational legendary gentlemen, l have got loads of his films, sometimes the message is in the movie if you understand, l have found his films inspirational and motivational unlike other actors, l don't care what other people think about his films, he is more physical than most actors his age or even who are younger than him, good luck to Stallone and may he continue to inspire us for a long time.

Rocky 5 is very entertaining and way better then part 6 and the Creed movies, the film critics praised the movie back in 1990, not to mention the Elton John song over the Rocky montage of all 5 movies over the closing credits.

I think when it came out (after the bombast of Rocky 4) they were not expecting a back to basics, more grounded sequel. They were probably expecting a Rocky vs ?, In Space. Not to say there weren't some unusual choices, (rap music during a montage) and over the top performances (Duke) but it was not nearly as bad as its reputation suggests. Btw the few scenes I saw of the work print were excellent and I personally would love to see a re edit like he did with Rocky vs. Drago.

I say that his movie changed my life, most people will never understand what Rocky V was really about. It was my favorite movie but people don't understand it. Rocky V is my favorite!!!!! The music.... A super human bomber like MORRISON to which this very day we will never know if Mike Tyson could handle him. My perception is that Tommy would have knocked Tyson into tomorrow in his prime. People do not understand how good Tommy Morrison was in his prime. He would have knocked Tyson out! Unfortunately the fight never took place because of what you all know. Tommy would have destroyed Mike! Mike himself said this: "too much power, I can't fight Tommy,", meaning even Mike Tyson was afraid of him.

Not great, Not horrible, just weird. The one thing I hate about it is how they just up and lost their fortune. Dumb plot point and he easily could've gained it back through book deals, endorsements, etc.

Looking back at Rocky V it was a little bit ahead of its time with the story telling being somewhat grimy with him loosing everything falling from grace. Now look at Creed 3. Similar plot to me. Champ see's protege/old friend. They both see that they can help this person. In the end they both get betrayed. They fight in the end.

I think the main reason it got so much heat was because it gave the Rocky the Joe Louis treatment and Rocky didnt return to his previous status of glory and two_ it was made after the best Rocky movie of the entire franchise . Their were a lot of expectations after Rocky 4 because of that. Unfortunately, it came nowhere close to being better than R4 and Stallone retired the franchise for over 15 years.

It's a good point to be made. If Rocky 5 existed without the previous 4, would it be seen differently? My question is, what with the eventual retcon of Rocky's brain damage and the live news coverage of the tommy Street fight, how could the public not be salivating at a possible balboa comeback against Gunn? Sportscenter would have eaten it up. I can see Bert Sugar demanding the fight take place and pronouncing rocky the true lineal heavyweight champion. Fight would have dwarfed any tyson fight ever in revenue.

I just rewatched Rocky V in the last couple of weeks. And, if you compare it to the previous Rockys, it's not good, but taken on it's own, I don't think it's so bad.

I loved Rocky V when I saw it in the theater and I still love it. It's the second best in the series and a great movie in its own right.

I'm with Viking. Back when it first came out.. yeah.. it was kinda cringe at the time. I agree when y'all say the character just kinda "ran its course". It definitely seemed like "oh.. was this necessary?" Especially after coming off Rocky IV its like what more can they make his character do? It was kind of like milking it at that point. But.. the more I get older and looking back, the movie is more appreciated. And not as bad as most make it out to be. I thought the storyline of him "getting back to his roots" is great. And we can see how it ties in better with follow up movies Rocky Balboa (rocky 6) and Balboa (rocky 7). And the first 2 Creed movies. I still watch the movie when I get the Rocky marathon urge. This is also the only Rocky where we get to see him street fight. From the very first Rocky we know he was a tough guy from the streets who became a boxer but never got to see that side. I also think it would be pretty cool if they made like a netflix prequel of Rocky in his younger days. We don't really know much about his upbringing or family.

Looking back at it now I think the problem people had with Rocky 5 was that he went through all that trouble in Rocky IV to win that awesome fight just to lose everything right away because of a stupid friend. It was like a storybook ending that got ruined like when Michael Jordan came back to the Wizards instead of just staying retired after that walk-off shot to win the championship lol. I even remember when they used to show the Rocky movies on TV they would show the first four in a row and then not even show part 5 😂😂. Years later I think it's better to watch it now because people can relate to it more in terms of life's ups and downs, it was just that it was so different from the first four and the storybook ending that got ruined made people not like it at the time.

I never understood all the hate that Rocky V got. I can understand someone saying that it's the weakest of the movies (through I'm not sure I would agree with that). I can understand how some people would be disappointed in the way that it departed from the typical Rocky formula. But so many people acted as if this movie was absolute garbage. The only thing I can think of is that it's one of those situations where someone (or several people) expressed a very strong (negative) opinion and others decided to just regurgitate their opinion and follow the crowd.

People; listen to Duke speach. It ifs the most powerful speach ever. Everytime you hit him, it will feel like kissing the express train!! You will knock him so hard even his ancestors will feel it. The Duke scene was the best ever made in the history of Rocky!!!!!!!

I’ve always loved Rocky V the whole concept of being a bum an wearing his old clothes again is nostalgic!! The dialogue in the Bar scene is classic!! Most people don’t like the ending but in my opinion the idea of No Ring No Gloves let’s got outside an Knuckle Up is some Alpha Male Shit an the Street Fighting techniques Stallone uses with the music playing will get you pump 80’s-90’s training montage style 👊🏻

I couldn't agree more! I was 10 when this came out and it landed just right for me! The street fight at the end is at the top of the list for the entire franchise for me. It's a shame that Stallone has downplayed this since it came out and tried to wipe it out of canon altogether.
