In this week's episode of The Shooting Show, Mark Ripley is out with what he feels is the best foxing gear you can lay your hands on. With a local fox population taking a steady toll on the farm’s chickens, Mark is out on the freshly cut fields in an attempt to thin out their numbers.
Then, Chris Dalton notes a good number of roebucks near Garryloop and it's now time to address them. Having left a couple of the slightly more mature beasts early into the stalk, he spots a buck skulking in some thick alder around 250 yards away. The stalk was on.
And finally, we welcome Mat Manning back to the Airgun Show. This week he tests the latest Alpex and Cheetah units from HIKMICRO on some troublesome rats.

FAO, Mark Ripley. Well shot Mark, as a fellow left hander, and mosquito food supplier. Patience certainly pays off, together with knowing your ground👍👍 Great Job. David

Great video mark and very productive too, you didn’t beat your record of 16 but just goes to show a good influx of foxes still about. Thanks for sharing. 👍

In this video you show 16 foxes that were harvested. When you remove so many predators that feed on pests, like mice and rats, in such a short period of time, are you then overrun with these pests as a result?
@260rips
@260rips Год назад
No it doesn’t seem to make any difference, I think many of these foxes are simply passing opportunists rather than resident foxes 👍

The gear should be good there is around 8 thousand pounds of thermal there Very expensive foxes Intresting video though. Cheers

@jaseforster1184 Год назад
All this thermal tech just makes the foxing way too easy and way too effective I’ve noticed a massive reduction in numbers over the last 10-15 years which marries in with the increase in nightvision and thermal. There’s not much skill involved no field craft and definitely no sport ! It’s pretty sad really the way things are going. I’m no anti and I’ve shot lots of foxes in the past but round where I live and hunt I’d go as far as to say they’re as good as extinct come winter time it’s disgraceful being honest and at very least they need seasons.
@260rips
@260rips Год назад
Really?!! Blimey round here we actually shoot similar numbers each year and have done so for the past 20 years or more. I regularly shoot between 120-150 per year and numbers are around the same over each of the farms. Shooting with nv or thermal is certainly an advantage but you still need a fair bit of fieldcraft - these creatures are very smart!
@jaseforster1184
@jaseforster1184 Год назад
@@260rips really? I’ve got over thirty years experience shooting and there’s practically no field craft involved. I know lads that hunt in winter time and they’re all packing up because there’s just no foxes about anymore in the winter and it used to be fruitful! This rifle shooting is way out of hand ! There’s way too many people doing it and the technology is too effective! How can it be sustainable when people are out there shooting big numbers all year round? It really is a disgrace what goes on nowadays in my opinion. I live in the countryside and never see a fox anymore yet years ago I used to see them regularly

I don't think that's right - at least not round my way. And in any case, I think you're missing the point of pest control.
