I Think Zhuge Dan's overconfidence in a imprevisible terrain changing that could give his army a grand victory is not without merit because like is said in the Art of War:victories can be created despite any circunstance or situation,we have numerous examples of this in the Three Kingdoms period:The Guandu campaign,the battle of Chibi,the numerous sieges in Hefei castle had proven that this is possible,but what i think was a miscalculation on Zhuge Dan's perspective was in his overeliance in this tactic that was out of his control,so even considering that even his army had done some coordinated attack with Zhu Yi's retinue would end in the same manner at least he could buy more time or secure a escape route because looking into Sima Zhao's actions in this campaign he is clearly ready to gamble everthing to win so this is not something to ignore in relation to danger he is willing to take to achieve victory.
