THE SIGNAL (VFX Sci-Fi Short Film Starring Michael Ealy and Grace Phipps, Written and Directed by Marcus Stokes)
2046. A new energy source, created to solve the world's energy crisis, is believed to have deadly side effects. When The Signal's inventor chooses to help a girl warn the public, he gains an unlikely ally to save the world from his own creation.
This live action short film was shot in downtown Los Angeles over a weekend. The post production and visual effects took considerably longer and were done by the writer/director Marcus Stokes and a few additional VFX artists.
The film was only possible with the help of several talented professionals willing to donate their time to the project.

Great story idea, would fit in well with current Si FY tv programing. I don't watch TV much but I would down load and power watch the hell out of this with a smile. I agree, Michael Early is a great actor that is way under used, he is over due to anchor a sires. and this puppy looks to have legs.

This is very interesting. My daughter had a great apt with a balcony across from a beautiful lake. They put up a 5g tower outside her apt. Within days of it coming on line she was having Heart issues, and absolutely NO sleep. We found her a new place and at 1st, apt mgmt would not let her out of the lease. Skip forward 2 weeks and massive pressure on the Apt & she is moving out in 2 days. No cost to her. Although they will NEVER admit there is a problem, folks been moving out in droves. What does that tell you ?

@@bbigd0 I believe you and as an engineer in the telecom industry, I am having a hard time understanding why. It is obviously the Frequency. I've also worked on communication towers installing cell applications for T-mobile and Verizon and I have never been sick. I've literally been in front of antennas that were ionized for hours. Even recently with 5G. Maybe it just affects children. 5g is also installed at a very low height to unlike the 4G that is above 200 feet. Some of the cell towers I have worked with were even as high as 500 feet in the midwest. Not too high in the southeast though. A monopole in the cities max height could be anywhere from 70 to 120 feet. I think if cell companies build their towers out of the city limits and build them higher, I think it would be better.

@@mrbuck5059 Yeah but 5G towers can't be that far apart, it has to be a small cell network with 152 meters between each tower for it to work, so if you elevate the towers you'd need more of them to cover street level. but then what about the buildings? You'd have more of these towers sitting on top of buildings and on street poles right in front of them, so what's next, elevate them even further? How many more towers will you need then? And how far will you even be able to elevate them to keep them effective? Wouldn't it be more dangerous to have that many towers? And even if it wasn't, installing and maintaining a tower costs money, more towers means more money spent on acquiring and installing each new tower, and hiring a larger permanent workforce to service the new additional towers, and what telecom company would do that out of their own free will?

Marcus Stokes- Very well done. I have been watching a lot of Sci Fi shorts lately, and this is in the top 3 for sure. All parts deserve to be given a pat on the back, from FX to sound, stunts, music, filming, editing, and your part also. The producer, who people don't actually know what they do, did an amazing job of putting this all together.

Congratulations to you and your entire production team and cast on an excellent short film. Frankly, this deserves a full-length theatrical release and I hope you get it some day. I too adored this... only other short I've just loved straight off is the very stange SA creation i think where it was born (spawned?) called "Apocalypse Now Now" i very highly recommend it. Like a strange combo of Jim Butcher the author writing Harry Dresden Novels, and Woo the Director, and Blumcamp if that is how it is spelled-(the Creator of District 9 in all its glory). (And also Chappie and a heap of short films).

You apparently didn't hear the rest of that sentence. "Gasoline, coal, any form of energy became the worlds most valuable resource." That means that tech, and any corresponding energy resources, aren't capable of keeping up with demand. The short is going on the suspicion that increased population has required the spending of more resources. As a result, everything came crashing down all at once because the energy infrastructure of the worlds economies couldn't handle the demand anymore. In other words, it's saying "If we keep going the way we are, this future is a real possibility and will happen very soon."

Yet $200Billion later, we don't seem to be any closer in real terms, despite the claims. The big problem is that this is all based on the theory that the Sun and other stars are controlled fusion bombs steadily going off. But what if they are not? According to the Electric Universe model, the stars are powered by the external flow of charge, which we can now image. Controlled nuclear fusion may turn out to be as scientifically sound as spontaneous generation.

Tim, dude, this plot has been used since, well, forever. It's "Metropolis", It was a Buck Rogers serial, It was a Star Trek episode (The Cloud Minders), it is "Elysium", and many more. This short was quite good but original it was not.

I can't travel easily - work schedules - but if you're shooting scenes pretty much anywhere east of the Mississippi and south of Cincinnati, I'll play whatever you need. Zombie, bad guy, dead body, hero - whatever.
