‘Respect Above the Clouds’ is for the Sherpa. These humble, generous, and understated human
beings are the backbone of my time on the mountain. Their work is truly selfless, and without
oxygen I rely on my Sherpa partners beyond the death zone.
Without them, realising my world record project wouldn’t be possible. They are with me every single
step of the way, supporting me on my journey. Together we make critical decisions. I trust the
Sherpa with my life.
What hasn’t been done well in the past is acknowledging who they are and what they do. I am
honoured to share their culture and experience as my project unfolds.
It’s time for the real story of the Sherpa to be told during my project. Without Sherpa, most climbers
are unable to step foot on the 8000ers. It’s time for them to gain the respect they truly deserve.
