Just a friendly heads up the first bird you caught with the yellow beak are actually called Noisy miners, they are native to Australia you don't want to kill thoes its actually illegal , Dark brown body with fully black heads yellow beaks you can kill them they're the introduced ones :)
I happen to know him wow I can't believe how many people are asking about his hand so everybody does not have to keep asking he was fishing and a crocodile got his hand so now you all know
For your information ... They grey minor bird at the start your first catch is "NOT" an introduced bird it is actually the Australian version of the minor ... The Indian minor is Brown, has a large white spot on each wing...
we had a more simplier one then this when I was young. we had a box 1 forked stick and a long string. you put the box on a 45 degree angle with the forked stick holding the higher end up with the string tied to the stick, chuck some bread under, hide, and when the birds go under pull the string...
+FPSOutback like I said I was young. hiding behind a bush holding a string waiting to catch a live bird was absolutly awesome. I would do it this way now kuz I aint got the time to be waiting now I got my own kids lol
Thank you so much, this is brilliant! The magpies here are chasing away all the small birds, eat the cat food and poop everywhere. We don't want to kill them though, we might just relocate them. GOD bless.
I guess that by now someone has mentioned that the first bird is a native, it is the noisy miner, not the introduced Indian myna Thanks for your videos, I've been enjoying them :-)
noisy miner is the cockatoo or the bird world....whenever a predator bird flies into the vicinity they start chirping which causes galag, corella, pigeon ect to launch into flight...They actually make nervous wrecks of the other birds as they sound off for helicopters and commercial jets...anything high and the start.
So many rude people are all going on about his hand, which is none of their business or even a big deal, while I'm stressing about the BIG mistake he made about the Myna. I know he corrected himself about killing what was actually an AUSTRALIAN NATIVE Myna, but I also know there are some effing idiots in this world, as well as just plain senseless assholes who won't bother to read the comments/corrections he made about his mistake, and will assume we should be killing Australian Native Myna's (killing the birds in this video/any native birds is ILLEGAL). I honestly hope no ignorant idiots watch this and think "Great, I'm legally allowed to catch and kill those birds!" I know the likelihood isn't high, but the fact that it's even slightly likely is stressing me out! Our wildlife is incredibly precious and deserves respect and protection. Had to get that out of my system :(
I noticed a lot of people are asking how do you make it so the trap doesnt kill the bird in the same way it would kill a mouse....This is easy people look at the trap you will see that it is dummy set meaning the metal rod is still connected to the tongue of the trap but the spring is not pulled back.....the bird pecks at the tongue which lets the little metal rod drop and the weight of the box does the rest
Lolliboo You mean besides lifting it? If you want to grab it then shove some cardboard underneath it and then you can turn it upside down with the bird in it. You can then put some netting in thru an opening that’s too small for the bird to come out and shake it around so it traps the bird.
Thanks for posting this video. I've added it to my "Wild Meat" playlist on my channel. Being a one-handed bushcrafter myself, I naturally subscribed to your excellent channel. Keep up the good work mate!
bro im a fan now of your videos your very good bro , i would just ask if its possible if you can do some effective sparrow bird snare coz we have many sparrow here in our backyard ive done the oija bird snare and spring pole snare i havent catch any, thanks bro.....
I caught a dove but I don't know how to remove it from the box because it's just flying up and down so I'm kind of stuck at this point. A little help please
i recently handed a huge white australian cockatoo a full peice of bread, as it took it, i bear hugged it lol..the dam thing opened the cage but 6 hours later and flew out the front door haha i love your trap im going to try to catch me a pet revan with it. cheers mate ;-p
FPS: Thanks for the video. Correct me if I'm wrong but you pre drilled a hole in the rat trap so that you're not hammering a nail through the trap. And then you're not actually setting the trap as you would to catch vermin. Not bad. thinkes for the videoyw, mite.
I am being swooped by a grey butcherbird non stop 3 or 4 strikes a minute, when I am in the garden( I wear a helmet. None can leave the house. Going to give this a go and bait with meat. I might catch and release 20kms away.
I am building this tomorrow 👌 we've been wondering how to catch a young broken leg crow at work yard,, he's really struggling but can't get clise to him,, Taa ✊
A magpie couple that for years come over daily for a snack have a young one that has a seriously injured paw. I would like to capture it and bring it to a local vet for help. Thank you for this demonstration.
To get the birds out just slide a piece of cardboard under the box, flip it back upright, cut a hole in the cardboard reach in and grab it round the back of the neck with 2 fingers and a thumb. Best way not to get bitten. Good trap tho, well done.
Can someone help me this stupid ass warbler keeps on going on my shoulder, it's not mine by the way, it's in my room which is very big, and keeps on knocking on walls
That's not a indian myna that's a native noisy myna, the Indian myna bird is ver similar but is black n brown. I had trouble to telling which ones which hahaha
Your hand? One thing for certain, it damn sure don't slow you down. You should make up a few of the wildest stories you can imagine to mess with the curious.
a easier trigger is the sampson's post. all you need is your capture device(cage or deadfall) and either one stick and a pebble or two sticks. with the stick and stone, you simply put the pebble on the ground, place the bait on top of it, put the stick on top of the bait and then your capture device on top of that. when the animal tries to take the bait, they knock the support stick out. with two sticks, you just place the bait on the end of one and either place the trigger stick on top or below
Any of the birds ever get their necks stuck in the mouse trap part when it snaps shut? Nice simple flying rat trap. Do it with a cardboard box, catch one of those 'invader' birds, and fire one of those 12 gauge bird bombs into the box when it drop. Wana see a slo-mo of that. Love your videos, keep em coming.
at 1:01 can i ask what happened to your hand? i might be mistaken but i looks like all the fingers and thumb are gone! Fair play to you cause that doesnt slow you down and im proud of you cause most people would sit on their backsides and collect the unemployed benifit but you seem as active as a regular person!! Well Done!
nobody is going to ask?... seriously!?!? what in the world happened to your hand? where you playing with fireworks or something? or was it something cool like fighting a bear and it took your fingers? I only ask so I don't make the same mistake. :)
Absolutely good job man. i got to get me a Rat Trap now. going to the Mountain when all hell brakes lose. you know food shortage. Economy and such. going to have to eat a Bird or two. thank you for the video Mate
Great trap! and easy to make. I will make this trap, I have a cage trap but the myna birds they are too smart to go in, they put one foot in and then pull back, they are the smartest birds alive, I HATE THEM!!!!
Wrap some tape around the rod so the trigger can only sit on the very end of the rod for a hair trigger. Prevents the bird pullng up on the bait rather then down.
Wait what, god destroyed his left hand because he loves him? :S I don't know about your definition of love, but hurting people is not love. But yeah, people shouldn't make negative comments about it :(
lol, somehow i didn't notice you had set the other end of the cordage in the ground and i was like 'this is working... but... i don't see how...' *rolls eyes* anyway, great vid - beautifully simple trap.
You only use the trigger on the mouse trap, not the spring see 3:10 . I'm kinda limited on what I can upload to youtube, I only just got off a 6 month suspension.
The spring part of the rat trap isn't used. The birds legs aren't harmed. Watch the video closely and you'll see it's the tension on the string that supplies the recoil not the bar spring.
ive tried the trap here in spain and it seems that the birds are more suspicios or something anyway a great method the proof is that it works down under take care ed from spain
Hey don't mind negative comments about left hand god made that happen for a reason not because he's mad at u because he loves u and it was for a purpose and nice trap
ATTENTION!!!!!!!!!! the "Noisy Miner" is Native to Australia. Not introduced. Loves to eat little bugs that eat our plants, and nectar from our native flowers.
Ok, so first I want to thank you for this. It is genius!!! Second, I want to say that I am crying because I bought a different one just before I found this video. Wha Ha!!! Where can I find boxes like this without too much trouble? I have some old anchor spikes from a tent that I no longer use. Perfect for this!!! Will drill hole in rat trap for it. Tee Hee!! I am thrilled about this!!
heres an idea: box, long string, stick. Prop the box up with the stick, tie the string around the stick, wait, pull the string when the prey is under the box. GENIOUS!
thanks I've been under attack more and more since two lovely kookaburra's left a few months back😫 they were awesome and I've been told kept away the other birds. on the last day they were here one came up to my veranda really close, maybe saying goodbye. I'll be investing and setting up a mine field of washing baskets lol😈
Thanks autoairsteer you are absolutely right. As I said I haven't seen a bird like that in years, so its a good thing I let it go. I'll annote the vid with the correction.
