That’s how I think of. I charge a lot more because I don’t wanna deal with the broke folks because they always wanna get there moneys worth and there is always something you can’t remove or take care off so I charge way more so I can deal with ppl that actually take care of there vehicles
i raised my prices and stopped offering cheap ass options well see if people respond well they weren't getting the cheap options anyway! the jobs i was selling were always the 100+ $ full service paint correction
As a marketing person, if I may add...Identify and focus on the core benefits as perceived by the customer. Ask yourself, what is your customer really looking for by coming to you? If you just think that all they want a clean car, think again.
@@JackRR15 The key is looking at it from their point of view. Get to understand each customer's individual wants and needs. That's really what any business needs to do. Let's begin: You're providing the customer with convenience, you're saving them time (time is money), providing piece of mind, you're stroking their ego, preventing them from potential injury, you're making them look good to others, brightening their day, reducing stress and worry, maintaining their reputation, and I'm sure I've missed a bunch more.
Also a marketing guy who runs a detail shop! People often don't know what to expect from a detail because they probably have never had one before. If they have, ask them what they liked about their last detail guy and what they didn't. By doing this you will instantly create a good first impression. It's easy to get caught in the weeds with lingo and stuff that doesn't matter to the client. That's why it's important to get straight to the pain points and take the time to educate on what they actually care about. It will save you time and money and deliver a more satisfying result because you aren't wasting time on what the client won't even notice.
Yes - conserve your energy. I’m still learning how to do this, but cleaning the wheels wear me out. Just starting using my drill brush for it. Helps a ton 👍
I like your outlook on the business man! Most people would think it’s a lazy approach but time is money! & detailing takes serious time especially those perfectionists who want to clean every inch of the car. Great video man & even better points made!
Exactly! Haha it’s interesting how people are groomed to think. Time is the only commodity we will never get more of and yet people are so willing to give it away for nothing
Absolutely! I spent a lot of years trading more of my time than I wanted to, but it built up a clientele that have stuck with me for literally 8-9 years in some cases
I would explain the price as the customer is paying for your knowledge to do the job not your time to do the job. Your expert knowledge is the factor that determines how long the job takes. Knowledge is priceless
$75 for ALL that was a huge bargain! I saw how much you charge for some of your add-ons and felt they were not great value. This though was awesome value. Think you should offer fusso coat though with that service for someone who wants the exterior well protected. It's simply the best 12-month lasting sealant that will give great protection against scratches too. Then finish it off with a ceramic detailer and boom!
Hahaha ya I have some more expensive add ons and some less expensive but the math in all of them has definitely been thought through down to the pennies. I’m glad you think this is good value! I agree 🤓
@@wilsonautodetailing Luke! Circular swirls are not in fact harder to remove. But it is easier to see since it has multiple angles where you can see them. And thats actually the reason behind dont wash in circular motion. Not because of the difficulty to remove.
I'm just a humble amateur who likes detailing but I liked watching this just to be more efficient. As much as I'd like, I don't have a dozen hours a week to cover every square inch of my car but still want a result that looks like I do.
Luke, Have you used ceramic detail spray long enough to know longevity? Compared to meguiars ceramic spray. Thank you for all your videos. Learning lots from your experience.
your way of thinking is amazing. i’m 20 and i love cars. i was working as a quick lube tech but was laid off bc of covid. i ended up becoming a detailer at this big motor company and it’s not a dealership. i’m learning to clean and it’s great. it’s exciting and you stay active.
Great video. Keep your personal approach, you deliver solid knowledge, logical business mindset with a passion for the craft at hand. Also energy management, absolutely bang on about that! Keep up the great work bud.
Superb video as always Mr. Wilson👏... Your channel is the one I watch most, ( I follow several), an I absolutely gotta give credit where it's due. Thanx for being a big contribution to where I'm at today an also for keeping it a 1,000% for us other Pro-Detailers an I mean that my dude. SALUTE!!!🔝🇺🇸🙋🏾♂️👊🏾
I gotta say I bought the Gtechiq upholstery protectant after watching your video, and I did exactly what you did by rubbing it in, letting it dry the whole 9. Not even close, water went straight into the fibers not one singe water bead sat on top so not sure what else was going on there but that wasn't worth the additional $15 when I can just scotch guard it and get the same results. YES, I did a test run with the scotch guard first and they both performed exactly the same AND I even went back over the scotch guard with the Techinqs and water still didn't bead.
Circular scratches are more noticeable because there are more angles it can be seen from. That’s why there’s the suggestion to use straight lines or “S” patterns. It has nothing to do with marketing.
Honestly, I have to say the truth you are the best detailing person that I ever see on RU-vid The way you explain all about detailing really makes sense and understandable you know what I’m going to subscribe on your channel. I really enjoy seeing your videos
I went through about 3 quarters of the bottle. Though I will say I get a discount on these products because I am an affiliate of the website they come from so your prices may need to be adjusted based on the bottle price. Part of the benefit of spending a lot of blood sweat and tears building an audience. It comes with its perks
@@wilsonautodetailing for sure. I'm glad you're getting some perks from all of your efforts. I appreciate the reply. Ive usually used 303 fabric guard (as an upsell item) but think I will give this stuff a try to compare.
I had this as a hobby when I was in high-school and college I fell off once I was in the oil field I feel like I can do this again... walk the walk talk the talk.
Ill tell you this much, you do get paid pretty well for your services....I'll attempt to charge my loyal clients $75 to vacuum they're car! I bet I won't loose that many clients!
Awesome! Genuine information I am learning a wealth of knowledge from you Wilson, I appreciate all your content and knowledge. Truly inspiring and takes alot of guess work out for me. Thank you so much for using your platform to help MANY! I too am just starting mobile detailing and you have made me very excited to get started. Again thanks so much. If I do decide to make a RU-vid channel I will be sure to shout you out on all my videos! Keep up the great work!
Great video and so true about importance of upselling! With all due respect, what happened to a two bucket wash being illogical and a waste of time haha? 😂 although it seems just as quick a previous methods you have shown with ONR 👍
Hey Luke! What hourly rate are you averaging? I will agree with you that so many detailers think like detailers, not business owners. They don’t sell, they can’t upsell, the don’t know hot to run a business and wonder why they can’t get clients or make the money they want to make. Have to set expectations and do what you’re being paid for as well. And stick to your prices! I’ve realized I’ve been undercharging for interiors. Also Gtechniq Smart Fabric is awesome! I’ve got the 1000mL bottle of it! Also being salesy is not dishonest. It’s called owning a business!
So true!!!! To answer your first question I generally don’t work for less than $50 hourly these days though I also run the online side of my business now so I am not completely dependent on detailing
Wilson Auto Detailing That’s what my minimum would be as well. I aim for close to $100 an hour now. Sometimes on coating jobs I can pull $150-200 an hour. And it’s easier and less strenuous work haha. What’s your online business? I’m intrigued....
We are not all OCD. It's an actual medical disorder that ruins lives not a cute nomenclature. I know what you mean but try to educate yourself on what people with OCD actually go through and you'll see why using it in that sense is actually minimizing the seriousness of their reality. Thanks for the content
Careful there language police. Most of us are ocd and proud of it. That’s why I do such great work, and my cars are all so damn clean. Taking offense to someone saying ocd like that just proves how overly sensitive and dramatic you are.
hmmm. lots of different choices...that ceramic detailer spray vs. Mcguires spray wax...So no concerns of using Ceramic spray? not into the Ceramic stuff yet...but this is just a basic spray I guess. Then the Renegade vs. CG VRP?. Good tip on Claying the Windows...didn't remember that.
The top price for any add-on is whatever the price the customer will pay consistently which meets their expectations. No need to apologize for maximizing your time and money. The #1 thing you sale, is your self. That’s before anything else.
If someone complain about the price. Well, take it to a car wash tunnel for few bucks and scratch your paint. Nobody have to tell you what's your value. He charges for the effort, time, products and knowledge. I'm totally agree with that. I like his videos. This are top quality washes. None scratch methods, great products and a guy you can trust your car with your stuff.
Hi, I'm not a detailer im just starting to get into detailing and maintaing my cars paint and I've ordered some Meguiars Ceramic Paste Wax 2.0. My question is how do I wash my car after this is applied without removing the wax itself? I usually use the Auto Glym Polar Blast, Wash and Sealant, is this still necessary? Thanks all
Andrew Monument Hi Andrew, I’m a detailer myself so I’ll try and answer your question for you here. Eventually wax will degrade over time, how long you get out of a wax depends on road conditions (how much grime is getting onto the surface and if there’s salt on your roads etc). Even ceramic coats slowly degrade over a year or a few years depending on the coating that has been applied. That being said, I would say keep using your snow foam before hand. Polar blast is a ph neutral foam so is safe for waxes and coatings. The point of the foam pre wash is to safely drag and lift loose contaminants from the surface before contact washing. If you didn’t do this, you would be essentially pushing minute grit like particles over your paint thus causing scratches and swirls and essentially sanding off your wax protection little bit by little bit. Meguiars also do a ceramic spray wax. This would be a great way to quickly top up your existing wax protection between washes so you can get the best longevity out of your new wax! Enjoy using it! Hope this helped you out a bit!
Hey Andrew, first of all, great pick with the wax, it's totally underrated. To your question, I would keep it really simple. Most car washes don't actually strip off the wax that sits on the paint. For example, meguiars gold class car soap that you can pick up at walmart is a great standard car soap that does not strip anything off. Again, most don't and will actually tell you that they don't
If guys can't get around the hourly mindset, a simple trick is to attribute a higher hourly rate to your time. E.g. A good hourly rate employee might be on $40 but running your own business, you count in travel time, accounts/admin time, costs for gas/power/water/equipment/computers/disposables/taxes/down-time/phone/internet/office expenses/vehicle-expenses, etc...factoring it all in you're probably about double...and maybe then some...plus extra work could be considered Overtime (x1.5) ...just an example of how to think
So this wise financial wisdom you were so graceful to share with us is called "Up Selling". It's one of, if not THEE number one way to turn profits in sales. That's where the "Would you like to Super Size that number 1 sir?", came from...
Man ..I really thank Gis for you .my name is Ronald from South Africa ..I have been steadfast watching your Vids and have bought 50% of what you always recommend ..my business is growing in a unique way ..all thanx to you ..even though i spend a lot on your videos
Yup, perspective and mindset is a value in and of itself. Don’t be a wage-slave and an impatient, lazy ass with a short sight and attention span. There’s, I said it not you lol Really, partnering with clients is just as valuable as partnerships with employees
I agree with you payment process with the mobile tech...so if your detail is 150 dollars obviously you have to charge tax so is that 150 with the tax included or does the app add the tax to the 150 so then it's would be 170 let's say?
All the products that you mentioned in this video are not available for UK and even for US are sold out or no longer available. What 6 similar products should I use if I live in UK? Thank you
Please don't generalize about what other detailer are doing or thinking about, you don't know us or how we handle our business, there's a group of us that eat breakfast once a week and hang out on a regular basis, we all like Pan, Brian and Whitehead. Anybody who has a successful business realizes what going on here.
You are so smart! Do you have employees? Btw, I know you've probably heard this a million times by now, but you look and sound so much like Corey Feldman!
Good morning Luke. How are you? I hope you and your family are doing well. I was wondering about how long this detail took you? Thank you for your time and for making these videos and stay safe.
I also use the yellow ceramic spray. I just found it a few months ago. I work at a dealership but have been slowly getting my own machines and supplies to detail myself
What would be the best approach To starting a detailing car business should I work for a corporate detailing business to learn the ins and outs and get some experience or Should I do?
The thing with the circular motion scratches is to go with the airflow so from to back or back to front in case of any scratching because as your driving dirt and crust will go across your vehicle going with the airflow keeps everything uniform so there’s no cross scratching
Have you ever had a payment not go through and/or has the customer tried not to pay you? What have you done if that happened or what would you do? Call the police?
Bro...great work...but i do have some constructive criticism. When your telling us everything, slow it down and breathe a bit man. Your talking seems kind of forced and strenuous. Other than that though...enjoyed the video and again, great work.
