Hopefully in another video they'll show it running on Retroarch, preferably with a bezel overlay along with a crt shader applied with no cross hair on the screen for that authentic look
From what I understand, this requires quite a bit of video processing ? I don't think the light gun itself does it but it just sends the data to the CPU to process.

This looks brilliant. I didn't learn about these until several months ago when they were shown on LTT, where they looked very impressive. I wasn't aware of what people were working on or what was possible in regards to making light gun games work using modern TVs. I'm glad to see this come about. I'll have to look into getting one or two of these some time down the road. Light gun games aren't my favorite, but they're good, simple fun and there are definitely some that I would very much like the play again.
@@tphyfhj7577 Johnny Nero didn't work on MAME, it runs on VP101 hardware PCB @300/400Mhz, and has suicide battery (like CPSII) and a HD containing the game's data, and comes with two blue/red Happ 45. caliber guns recoil, and has dual-wield feature.
Man this brings back memory.Playing house of the dead and Terminator at the arcade for 50 cents back then now it's 5 bucks here and it's only small arcade.
Mine are coming in tomorrow, I am so excited. I ordered a red one and a black one both with recoil. I am binge watching reviews and tutorials in anticipation of it's arrival. Ordered them in December of 2021 and it is coming in the 9th of April. So I been waiting awhile for these. I got all my favorite light gun games from my childhood ready and gonna have lots of fun once I get these set up.
I feel the same way currently it won’t work on the Sega Dreamcast from what I hear but I’m curious myself to see if I can use one of my Dreamcast USB converters to see if it can work, hopefully I get mine soon this month
Not all machines had pedals, in some machines to take cover you had to aim outside the screen, which was generally used to reload in these kind of games.
What? I heard of reload by shooting outside the screen but taking cover by aiming outside the screen? I don't think that shit exist, that is the most awkward shit ever.
Andy Johnson He’s talking about a game that “to take cover you had to aim outside the screen,” I don’t think they made one like that! It’s either you shoot outside to reload or you use a pedal to go into cover.

I'm so happy these are coming out finally!!! I would love to see this working with Policenauts on the Saturn and Snatcher on the Sega CD and/or PS1. The thought of being able to play those again properly puts a big smile n this face!
Very exciting news, at least for the emulation community. Get this thing to somehow work with an actual NES, SNES, Playstation, etc, and that would be splendid!

Nice to see more lightgun solutions but I really wish there was a no border solution. Something around the screen not effecting the screen, covering things up. Its why I liked the Wiimotes for lightgun games the IR bar is all thats needed. Less accurate but I'd prefer that over a border in software. I'll be waiting for an improved version.
I think I agree with you here. Plus I really wish their motorized version that will supposedly come later is: 1. extremely robust like commercial arcade-grade and 2. I wish they would make the motorized version modular so it could be a handgun, shotgun, or uzi (ie Operation Wolf / Thunderbolt-style) and 3. Have substantial recoil and sound to immerse you better into the games. I was always wanting for a light gun to appear in the home market like this & year after year, decade after decade, I basically gave up hope due to lack of innovation or will to make one from any substantial player in the market.

Same, been wanting to get this ever since they launched their Indiegogo but can't because they won't deliver to Australia. Tried contacting Andy about it but haven't heard anything back.
@@kas2k4 problem with Aussie is customs. He is testing to see how many people can get the gun before sending out 1000's of gun to australia. There should be an update soon on this as soon as all the KS backers have there guns.
Dude lightguns on modern TVs. A Dream come true. Nintendo did do a great job with wiimotes even tho they need IR LEDs. Best thing about that jurassic park game is the machine that moves the seats to make it way harder to aim

Looks great, but with all the work they put into this I’d love to see a non-gun version of this, I’ve wanted a quick consistently usable pointer mouse to control my PC for a while. Would love to play some Mouse and Keyboard games from my couch like how I used to play the Nintendo Wii.
I already have a set of these light guns. I was one of the first to get them as an early supporter and now beta tester. Andy has done an amazing job. I already have them mounted on my arcade cabinet and played so much the first day I got them that my hand cramped for days, lol. I guarantee if you purchase one of the light guns you will not be sorry. GAME ON...
Awesome to see another video review of these things in action, I was an early backer on Kickstarter (it didn't start on Indegogo but it went there for additional preorders) and am eagerly anticipating my guns in the next month, but I love seeing reviewers set them up easily and get to playing light gun games.
What I'd do with the cocking mechanism for hiding is invert it, so you're NOT crouched while the handle is released and hiding behind cover when you engage it.
How is accuracy without an on screen reticle? True light gun games never had them as the aim was good enough to be done for real with the gun itself. Would be very interested in seeing the M2 emulator for House of the Dead 1 and virtua cop 1 and 2. When I was trying to use Wii remote that gave me trouble as the emulator is quite janky.
@@ens0246 the drag seems most pronounced in the Alien game which might be the game itself as it wasn't a true lightgun. Could also be emulator/screen latency and not the device itself.
@@DenkyManner Correct the drag is that game due to the stationary gun. Every video I've seen other than this one is without the crosshair and it appears to be flawless. Linustechtips has a video of duck hunt.
It works really well from what I see. It uses the white border on the edge of the screen, which can be thinned, but the larger border is probably more accurate/responsive. As for if the physical crosshairs are accurate I haven't seen talked about, I had to adjust the aim in some of the arcade style guns. Can't wait to receive them.
5:29 fun fact , Time Crisis on the PS1 you could use the X button on the second controller as the petal , I played that game a million times ;-) (I used my old PS1 controller with no analog sticks so I didn't care if I'd kill the controller with my foot)
So the reference point built into the screen will always be superior to an external IR reference point. Anything that uses an IR bar is essentially an air Mouse and can easily lose accuracy.
I don't see how cutting off the screen is superior. Actually watch the video. An IR reference point is actually the superior reference point because you can't see it and it behaves nothing like an air mouse, which uses gyroscopic sensors to guestimate position. The math is the important thing in a modern gun as they all have to calculate position based upon reference points. The math is great on this one, but again, it cuts off the screen. A +$200 gun that cuts off the screen.
Looking forward to getting mine soon, went for the recoil option so a little bit longer to wait but looks well worth it. Kudos to Andy on what will be a successful Kickstarter.
Incredible. Would love to play the the arcade style lightgun games of the 90th and 20th from SEGA, Namco and Capcom again, but not willing to bother myself and my wife with a big and heavy crt tv anymore. So this gun seems to be perfect. Great video!
Finally! Playing Lightgun games with a mouse in MAME is a major hassle and using controller for other emus is the same. Now I just need to save for one of these bad boys >_

Great to see this finally out there and love your review! I'm still waiting for my Kickstarter pledge to be delivered (since I'm in Australia) but looking forward to it a LOT! I really miss lightgun games when CRT went away. I never found the Wii-style "sensors bars" ever worked accurately for me.
I only noticed the floaty delay in the Alien game, but that's because it's not a real lightgun game, the gun was mounted on the cabinet and the aim was calculated on it's position like a giant analog stick
I'm really interested to see how this works with more modern arcade lightgun games, Model 3 and up. Lost World or Virtua Cop 3 for example, running perfectly with this, might make it an essential purchase for my games room set up...
Yeah, I definitely need one of these. Hopefully someone will import these as I don't like our chances getting one through customs. :-( I'd be happy to just get the guts & 3D print the case myself.
So cool that there are some videos out for it now. The real question is can you play light gun games without a cursor and still be able to pull off very acute shooting missions? I am a little doubtful about that.
I'd love to see some of the older games with this like Point Blank on the PS1, Lethal Enforcers on the Sega Megadrive and even the lightgun games for the 8bit systems like the Master System and NES. Even seeing Bullseye on the ZX Spectrum would be good too! Its feels like every system I had for the longest while had a lightgun option.
Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft should look into licensing this technology. A Nes Classic Deluxe with more games and one of these light guns would fly off the shelves.
Seems to use both camera and gyroscope sensors. Camera so it knows the play area of the monitor, and gyrscope sensor so it knows the direction its moving
Looks great. Only one thing I'd change... given that you've got to correct for screen ratios anyway, it shouldn't need a full border, and the border overlaps the playspace. I mean, you're playing in 4:3 on a modern widescreen... why not just have side borders, placed outside the playspace? The image processing algorithm would no doubt be just as happy with two parallel bars on the left and right of the screen, giving equally accurate results but with the advantage of no lost pixels...
Its possible the creator considered that, and that solution had more latency with calculations. But you may be completely right. It'd be really cool if this could operate with say a physical white border, that you install around the monitor. Could be tricky to calibrate, but would be awesome if possible.
Looks amazing!, but no Virtua Cop 2 or Revolution X? I'm so glad somebody came up with this as that's the one thing we're missing with old school games
Finally a proper light gun for PC! Would love to see how it works with Area 51 (Mame) and emulated dreamcast shooters like Confidential Mission or HOTD 2 (Redream?):-)
I put in for the Sinden recoil recoil light gun and am very excited for the possible December release Andy is shooting for. Will you have a how to set up Sinden gun with hyperspin and rocket launcher? And maybe a how to set up a Sinden kit before receiving your gun. Love the video. Great job 👍
