...... and now, change the playback speed above to .90 ..... a process to be sure, then, put it on eleven and prepare to pick up broken glass, replace broken floors, etc ..... on days like this, in times like these .........
What a great song, I love it! I put it into my "Shellshocked Radio - Recommendations" List: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-LDhpucN8wrM.html Very well done!

Jim Steinman passed away today. The mastermind behind the music of Meat Loaf and "Bat Out of Hell", Steinman produced the recording of this Goth epic. And you can hear Steinman's patented over the top rock and roll theatricality smeared all over it. RIP Jim.
@@borisbrosowski6630 I mean, the melody sounds a lot like "Lucretia, My Reflection," so I can believe Eldritch wrote the basic song. But all of the style of it, and the choir, and the theatricality all seem like Steinman. I'll see if I can find that demo.
For sure, gorgeous Hermetic Kitten ASMR. This man, who never agreed or allowed himself to be labeled by the dreary pedants & “pop star lovers” yeah? He’s fucking ASTOUNDING. Stick that in your scandal drawer, you dreary coteries. Mistress Bex 💋
The counterpoint is OFF THE CHARTS in this song. The rising and falling bass, guitar, and multiple vocal parts. It's got lead male, lead femals, background vocals, AND a chorale. It's nuts! BTW, I left the USA to go to London three times in my 20s to try to chase whatever cool sh*t I could find. This band never played live when this record came out, so I didn't find them. I found Rick Astley instead unfortunately. Hated that sh*t.
I own a red aria pro two bass that according to my dad belonged to her at a point. It has a serious amount of wear on it too which makes it believable.
Goths never die we continue fabulous beautiful, creative and free. Bless all goths I'm 55 still goth from the age of 14. We are all fabulous creatures my dearest goths worldwide xx
Sisters of Mercy, the only Goth band with the guts to seek out one of the most bad ass rap groups of all time, Public Enemy, and ask to go on tour with them cause they loved their defiant sound. They made it happen lol!!!
I remember dancing with this girl who looked like a young Sheryl Crow with blue eyes and the played this song and then She Sells Sanctuary, and then some Cure. Good times!
Me!!! I am not goth at all, in fact fairly conservative. But throughout the 80’s played this song to no end. I’m trying to figure out how I learned about this band. I still don’t know. I could’nt get Enough of this tune. So many memories of my college years in Boston!
It was the decade of the UNDERGROUND! People HATED the mainstream, and made THEIR OWN SCENE and CLUBS and BANDS. Lots of cigarette smokes. Black trenchcoats smelled like hell the next day. Inner cities were still cheap, so there was plenty of real estate to throw parties in. Cops were dicks, but could be bribed by promoters in some cities. That said, it was far from all roses and excitement. But the music kicked serious ass, because it wanted to deliberately NOT be mainstream but still good enough for people to like, plus there were enough people buying it for it to get real production in real studios. The music business made a fortune in the 80s and 90s up until about 2000, and then it was over, and look at the results, plus the media all got sucked up by owners and real music for the people got shut down across the board.
I grew up in the 80s and I can tell you that goths have never.been understood...unerstanding only gets in the way of the style..kinda like not matching your blacks
when i went to my first night club, this was the first song i heard, followed by the jesus and mary chain, the cult, the cure and soixie and the banchees. awesome!
I remember the day this came out. I was at college and spent the whole day waiting to hear the song watch the video that evening. Everyone was waiting for the return of Eldritch, like the return of an exiled king. Then when I watched it it was truly glorious and I was blown away.
I'm not a goth but that doesn't stop me appreciating this track. Way back when this hit the charts I was into soul music, about a chasm away from goth music but SoM really shone through with their originality. Wonderful track.
I had never heard of this band before 1987, and I haven’t heard any other songs from them since. But this song is a staple in my daily playlist because it’s just _that_ good. So they’re legends in my book.
"Temple of Love" might be even better. Hearing Ofra Haza's voice the first time was a holy revelation... and then the bass dropped. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-H1Vt-qdS8FE.html
@@francismarionswampfox3468 Reporting to you live. I am dancing in only leather in my cul-de-sac and nothing is happening. Will need to wait until it rains.
Heading out on a road trip from Pittsburgh to St. Paul, I grabbed my copy of Overbombing and stashed it in my buddy's car. I was at the wheel as we approached Gary, Indiana around 1 in the morning. The flare stacks at the refineries were burning great plumes of orange flame, and the smell of sulfur hung heavy over the freeway. I plugged the CD into the dash and cranked up This Corrosion. My buddies weren't happy about being awakened, but they had to admit that screaming through the wasteland at 95 mph in the middle of the night was pretty much the best effin' music video we could ever live through. Totally worth it!
"I got nothing to say I ain't said before, I bled all I can, I won't bleed no more. I don't need no one to understand, Why the blood run hold, The hired hand On heart Hand of God Floodland and Driven Apart...... Like a healing hand!" Just great!!
just reminds me of he world's end at the end where Gary looks at his younger self, reflecting his past life he lived, he still did live, and rips his head of, symbolising the brutal change from young to old, and Gary embraces it wonderfully, literally and figuratively, but then as the drunk man he is, starts his life with the other younger gang
Yes, and not only that - In the very end he was set in a postapocalyptic wasteland just like in the video here. With him already trying to emulate the singer's look his whole life, this truly must have been a dream come true, in a way. His reality turned into his assumably favorite music video. It's kind of wholesome and sad at the same time..It basically sealed his ascend into lonelyness (only blanks as "friends" left) and living his dream (of having his eternal goth adventure) at the same time. Such a great film, many of the deeper meanings overlooked by some people who just thought it wasn't funny enough.
I regularly lose myself in this song... the endless entwined harmonies towards the end, along with the remorseless rhythms are hypnotically brilliant 🤘🏻🖤🤘🏻
I'll never forget waiting for Queensryche to hit the stage in 1995 when this song came on the PA. I asked my mate who the fuck this was & he matter of factly told me it was the Sisters of Mercy. Instantly I became annoyed because everytime I visited him I was subjected to the latest death metal bands when he was sitting on this awesome music for fuck knows how long.
I'm not quite sure what to make of this. My cousin was guitar engineer for Queensryche. This is a song which most people will never forget. Unless you don't come from an inner city LOL.
@@peterritson1875 well he said he makes more money on tour then he ever did releasing records back in the day... remember when the sisters broke up in the early 90s they were literally broke .
@Erik Wesley Hi. I'm from the 90's. During college, I became extremely busy. I kind of lost track of the venues and resources that I once used to discover music . And then my career started to eat up my time... and then the Bush II administration happened, and the average IQ seemed to plummet by about 30 points... Anyway, while my back was turned all 'popular' music seems to have become the same smooth, three-chord-progression mush backed by the same chorus of disorganized, autotuned mumbling. Can you help me?
I think there are plenty. You just have to know where to look. But then again, I doubt even the same thing would grab the same listener the same way after all those years of damaging their hearing...
When They played This song back in the early 90s..@ "The Cat Club" in the village,NYC..the place exploded!! The dance floor was rocking..I remember dancing up on top of the speakers..it was the highpoint on the evening!! Great great song..animal energy!! The 🐈cat club was so cool..very cool vibe..I remember feeling like "hotshit" being one of the regulars..
Great pop classic of the 80s. It has passed times, fashions and still sounds great today. The song that made Andrew Eldritch rich. The video was great with its post-nuclear decadence. Your look was ultra-cool. Pat Morrison was beautiful. Eldritch on top.
3:02 "I got nothing to say I ain't said before I bled all I can, I won't bleed no more I don't need no one to understand Why the blood run hold The hired hand On heart Hand of god Flood land and driven apart Run cold (hey now, hey now now) Turn Cold, BURN LIKE A HEALING HAND!!!" really love that part of the lyrics. Hits me hard
Thanks to Ukraine for bringing this absolute gem of a song back to light. It's been decades but I loved it when I was young... and it's holding up now that I am old.
I worked a goth club in Detroit back in the early 90's (City Club in the Leland Hotel). A beautiful woman named Patricia Adams turned me on to these guys. She went by "Tish" - totally playing on the whole "Addams Family" Vibe. My GAWD she was incredible! The things we did to each other while this song played...
The 2013 film "The World's End" introduced me to the Sisters of Mercy. This was the first song I've heard by them. At first, I thought it was original score music for that scene, since it was so...perfect for that visual. It's like the anthem for the Gary King character. I wish I had got to know The Sisters of Mercy sooner. I feel bad.
Watching the worlds end with my dad and he just absolutely "fanman's" when this song came on hahaha, reminded him of his goth days. Don't ask why I shared this.. I'm weird and I know it bye.
+wolfgirl5550125 You are blessed with a cool Dad ! Been a Sisters fan since 1983 and seeing them at Roundhouse in 16 days time. Had a bash at being a Goth back in the day but was crap at it ... something to do with me suntan .. but still loving the music. Grow old not up .... that's me motto.
Yeah I had no idea Sisters of Mercy existed until I watched The Worlds End. Now I can't get enough of them because they just kick that much ass. Goth rock for the craziest of us all. The ones who really know what's up.
Most sexiest man alive at that time. It's good he's wearing his glasses, one look in his magnificent powerful eyes and you're forever lost in love with this man.
