Star Wars Episode 9: The Rise of Skywalker featured some cool new Sith Troopers, and while I love their design, overall they're a total mess from a lore perspective. We'll cover that and more on today's Star Wars lore video!

I haven't heard of anyone with a role like Kevin Feige for Marvel who was inn charge of making sure the new Star Wars material was working together well, otherwise they'd have said how this trilogy was not being planned out. Thus JJ an Ryan each did their own film, barely connecting them, then JJ had to patch up the damage Ryan did with TLJ and brought Palpatine back in a rushed way just to try and make it seem like his return was the plan all along. No we all could see through it. And even in the end the dedicated Sequel fans were also disappointed, especially the Reylos.

I agree. I think the Sith Trooper would’ve worked better as Kylo Ren’s personal squad of Stormtroopers, like Vader’s 501st. The main inspiration for the design was to simulate human muscle rather than the bone inspired Stormtroopers, so it would’ve felt more personal to Kylo.

Bone inspired stormtrooper suits? Unless you know something I don't, I'm pretty sure the empire just wanted to keep the same white color and look from the clone troopers when they started having stormtrooper armor mass produced by I believe Kwat. Little did they know clone armor wasnt white, but rainbow. The kaminons saw in the ultraviolet color sphere, and saw colors that humans didn't. The empire wanted to keep the same armor, just massproduced it with a different corporation, making it look slightly differerent and much cheaper quality. Also the stormtrooper corps was initially used as a peacekeeping unit, and white is a very uniform and neutral color. With no individual markers to show off free thinkers or personality. So bone inspired stormtrooper armor? Nope.

I agree with the faction thing. In fact, I'd argue there didn't need to be a secret "Final Order" or anything, as the First Order was already a secret faction grown in the unknown regions lmao. If they expanded on the story of the sequels with a similar series to the Clone Wars I think there is potential - granted, only potential - that they could find a way to make that world compelling. the whole point of having an emperor is to have all of the combined power of the dark side focused into 1 or 2 people (at most a few hundred or thousand lightly drawing), rather than legions of sith warriors drawing off of it in combat. The inquisitors served a very specific purpose after Palpatine's rise to established power and were probably all killed pretty soon after rebels. The sith survived through deception and hiding until they were able to use the dark side to rise to power by manipulating trillions of people through orchestrated conflicts and mind tricks. There is no way that the narrative of the first or final order works unless the first order is imperial remnants that somehow came back into power after being decimated (still paints the new republic as weak and undermines the whole empire vs rebels 3 movie arc). The empire being beaten by a smaller group of talented soldiers, pilots, and strategists, luke having to go through 2 movies to be trained to even use the force in any useful manner, vader's grand redemption that finally vanquished the darkness that had set over the universe. Everything that came before the sequel trilogy was just absolutely shit on by 3 movies written by people who don't understand the source material, and who only cared about meeting the deadline and getting their cut of the box office. There is no way to make these 3 movies make sense, the 2 writers of them didn't even agree on anything. The copy and paste of ANH but with a staff girl that can wield a lightsaber with no training and a tantrum-throwing manchild antagonist instead of a cold, calculated, half man, half monster with no tolerance for failure. Then rian scrapped the whole plot to make some other thing that doesn't make sense with genius lines such as "They fly now??? They fly now." and the butchering of Luke Skywalker who's been hiding on a rock drinking blue milk while his friends and family are being murdered and some hour long subplot about how slavery's bad (what would I do if they didn't tell me). JJ got back on to try and pick up the pieces and the end product looks like a kindergartener's art project with a bunch of spaceships that have horses on them and some guy he saw in the other movies and thought looked cool.

I've always felt this way. If I recall correctly, the original plan was to have three different directors. When I first heard this my first thought was "Why?" Doesn't make sense to have three different directors work on the same story. Could it have worked? Probably. But after seeing the butchering of what was an amazing set up (The Last Jedi from The Force Awakens) it didn't seem possible. Personally I believed Abrams did an amazing job with The Force Awakens. Great way to ease into the new Star Wars trilogy. Had he been the director for all three films I feel the story would have been more coherent and understandable; potentially new life into Star Wars. Luke learned of how the jedi fell from acting as generals so he takes his students and secludes them away knowing a conflict is coming but helping means they lose. Rey is starkillet basically an attempt at refining force sensitive cloning to replace snoke with a force sensitive palp clone. Luke senses is this realizing this is far far worse than just the dark side but an attack on the force itself with possibility of corrupting it in its entirety(maybe tie in the rakatta lore of them being cut off from going to far) so luke and his students come back mid battle as knights of ren are wrecking and just goes full jedi

It is not that suprising that both armours share the same design language. I have very simple explanation for you which is analogous to how NATO members develop their uniforms and kit. The proposed situation is that the Empire was already developing a prototype version of the First Order/ Final Order armour to replace the existing Stormtrooper kit. With the break up of the Empire both political entities continued to develop the armour according to their own design principles. Both armours reflect a different kind of design philosophy: the Final Order choose survivability and the First Order decided to stick closer to the rationale behind the original stormtrooper armour (in terms of materials and ease of production). The next step would be to approach this as an art historian and identify which elements both the First Order and Sith Trooper share in order to identify the hypothetical '0 version' of the armour the empire was developing. So what I want to say is - you will come to different conclusions if you approach Star Wars as a (art) historian. Things are quite easily explained and do make sense if you put some effort in to it whilst still remaining within the limits of the lore explanations provided by Lucasfilm.

I've only watched the movie once, but I distinctly remember Finn telling Poe that "people are rising up all over the galaxy" in the immediate aftermath of the battle of Exegol. From what I understood, he was referring to the First Order being overthrown because Ep. 9 didn't explicitly state that it aided the Final Order in any capacity on Exegol. Judging by the opening crawl in Ep. 8 and the montage of uprisings at the end of Ep. 9, the First Order was spread throughout the galaxy working independently from the Final Order. So, the First Order definitely survived the Final Order's collapse, but it’s heavily implied that it didn't last long before collapsing as well.

Snoke, the leader of the First Order was a direct puppet of Sidius. As a result, the design of the First Order military was presumably also puppeted by Sidius, who coincidentally also controlled the Final Order. The way I see it is that the mimicry is simply a demonstration of Sidious's preferences at the time bleeding into his puppet faction.

The root cause of this Sith Trooper issue goes back to what I've been saying about Disney Star Wars for years. Disney seems to focus on character development over world-building. Now, I'll say right now character development isn't a bad thing to focus on, but world-building was George Lucas's bread-and-butter in his own writing, and that's what Star Wars fans are used to seeing. Everything about the Sith Troopers in this video is a symptom of world-building taking a back seat in Disney Star Wars. Especially for the sequel trilogy since they couldn't/didn't use any pre-existing lore to explain what was happening in the galaxy.
@vain.a2
@vain.a2 Год назад
the character development is pretty abysmal in the sequels too though... like rey wants to know who her parents are, then after fucking around in a cave she decides it doesnt matter, then in the last movie she finds out she's a palpatine, and then she decides she's a skywalker? finn is interesting in the first movie but then thrown to the side and not utilised whatsoever. his whole arc in the last movie is that he wants to tell rey he is force sensitive??? kylo ren is probably one of the better characters at least. i nearly forgot to mention poe dameron cuz he does fuck all. george had top tier world building but his 6 movies are ultimately about anakin's character/sacrifice, and i mean luke has more development than any sequel character too? its been a while since ive watched the sequels so lemme know if im not remembering this right lol.

That's just another symptom of Disney not knowing what they were doing. How can you write Star Wars, and ignore the bloody worldbuilding? Star Wars has always been *about* the worldbuilding! Go to any convention. Sure, you're going to see the odd named character being cosplayed, but most people just want to be a generic rebel pilot, or a facelless stormtrooper, or just another Jedi. People care about the world just as much - or most likely even more - than about the characters.

this might just be me, but over time i've thought that it would have been more interesting if the Sith Troopers, instead of being a red version of a Stormtrooper, were more like... a super soldier program for the First Order. basically use an idea from Legends that is the "Sithspawn", which are creatures or entities that have been altered through either Sith Alchemy or Sith Magic. It would have been an interesting moment in my mind to show the First Order having started to use old sith teachings in order to create a super soldier program. would have also been a unique moment for Finn too, to have him learn of his former Stormtrooper friends and comrades, now being converted into an army of monsters.

I'm genuinely curious how Disney will handle the sequels going forwards. I think for a lot of us Star Wars: the Clone Wars went a long way in redeeming the prequels, building off of what they did right while steering clear of what they did wrong. That project only existed because in the early seasons George Lucas was willing to support it even through the signs of poor movie performance and high costs, because it was a passion project for him. I don't see anybody in Disney who cares enough about the story the sequels told and who have the power to do a similar thing for that trilogy. I suspect that Disney is choosing to ignore the sequel trilogy and instead focus on telling stories in the OT and immediate post-Empire period, which is a real shame; not only did lots of people work hard on the sequels and there are some genuinely good ideas and visuals in there, but just like the prequels, there will be a whole generation for whom these films were *their* Star Wars, and I think they deserve to have the same sort of faith put into them that they will eventually mature and appear as an audience that we got.

The Prequels had the benefit of fitting together narratively as well mostly with the saga as a whole. The Sequels don't even fit together narratively, let alone the rest of the saga, and highly contradict eachother. There's nothing left to salvage with that trilogy, as any further attempt to expand upon will further convolute the trilogy.

@@pepperedash4424 I gotta be honest with you chief, I'm fucking tired of the whole "uhh but the prequels..." argument. Yeah, the prequels are more coherent and better written, but let's not forget that they were as hated as the new movies and people wanted George Lucas to be crucified as much as they want to see Rian Johnson's head rolling in the floor today. It's just now that people are beginning to realize that maybe they weren't so bad. I'm not saying that the new movies will be liked in the future as it's uncertain, but to say that there's nothing to tell is an exaggeration. There are a lot of things that can be told during the sequel era that aren't necessarily "plot whole patches". We actually know very little about what happens outside of the main movies. You just need to be creative
@pepperedash4424
@pepperedash4424 Год назад
@@JuanFuentes222 And I'm fucking tired of people commenting on threads without context of said thread in mind. I only brought up the Prequels because they were apart of the op's comment. The attitudes regarding the Prequels were mixed. There was a loud outcry against them, but there was also a steady audience still coming to theaters to watch them. With people returning to theaters for RoTS after being vacant for AoTC. While theater attendees were almost cut in half from TFA to TLJ, then reduced even further with TRoS. Regardless; the attitudes towards both trilogies are irrelevant to the difficulties of expanding upon a narrative/lore quagmire. No amount of imagination can fix something that ignores its own narrative/lore, as well as the rest of the franchise, without making it more convoluted. Especially given Lucas Film is as of recent lacking in that department. You just need to be more pragmatic.

I think the problem with Star Wars in general is they create these things and then don’t in any way follow through. The follow-through of the clone wars should have been increasingly younger, less trained clones pressed into combat to fight increasingly deadly robots, all with the increasing corruption of the Jedi as the war drags on, which caps off with their greatest general becoming Darth Vader, half machine, half slave child. The follow-through on Finn was mass storm trooper rebellion inside the First Order, which could have been capped off with the Final Order. The follow-through on little slave children with force powers is that the FORCE flows through ALL living things and is the possession of everyone, not just some weird order of space wizards.

I was always under the impression that the First Order and sith worshippers on Exegol were always two distinct factions. Then, when Kylo Ren and the Emperor united, they merged into the single, unitary Final Order. The troops, generals, aesthetic etc. of the First Order composed the bulk of the Final Order (hence why the armour is similar), whilst the fleet from Exegol was basically all that was supplied by Palpatine. The First Order became the Final Order in some epic rebrand for the re-emergence of the Sith, rather than being two distinct entities.

I run a Star Wars ttrpg in a home brew system with elements from things I like in all Star Wars cannons (legends and so on). When my version of the FO emerged from being a 5th column in the Empire the sith troopers came about as later additions to their armies. They are depicted as highly trained foot soldiers with very minimum comprehension of the force and limited abilities. Similar to the emperors shadow guards but more active in frontline combat. A squad of frontline combatants all using force push and pull is very terrifying.
