I seem to be on a weekly schedule with these. So here's the promised INTJ video! I will begin work on the ENTJ video next. I don't own rights to any of the pictures except the little stickman doodles AND the one picture at about 7:24. That's another one of mine.
I hope the video is insightful!

'The INTJ appears like something inhuman trapped in a human body' That's brilliant. The future-seeking Ni, the weak sensory aspect, it very much feels like I am simply occupying this body sometimes.

I am very much in tune with my body and I feel most comfortable when getting to express physical effectiveness, like when crafting or working out. The separation of body and mind is detrimental to all human experience and is a tragic misstep in our understanding of our existence. The outer world however, that's outside my direct reach to manipulate, is strange and unfamiliar and that very much include other people, and groups of them even more so.

I laughed so hard I started to tear up when I heard the part about seeing the world as a game. You just do not know how true this is for me -- I even see simple things such as driving as a game. I analyze the vehicles around me, routes to my destination, the timing of traffic lights, and all sorts of information, all like it is a game of chess where I am trying to outsmart my "opponents" and "win" by getting to my location as efficient as possible.

I'm an INTJ and this video describes my personality better than most. The example with having control over the environment is something I do all the time - so much so, that I score extremely high on Machiavellianism. I always take stock of my resources for potential future uses, should I need them. I almost always have at least three different ways out of a difficult situation ready and practiced in my head, so I may use them almost instinctually when the need arises. It has gotten me out of many sticky situations. :)

This is one of the best explanations of the INTJ personality I have seen. When I took the test, I finally understood why I am the way I am. I started searching for videos explaining INTJ's and most make us sound like we're a bunch of antisocial asses. I believe that regardless of our personality type, we also need to take into consideration how we were brought up by our parents, guardians, whoever; and interactions with family and extended family which also influence our behavior. I know I also have traits that are not INTJ. I once asked a grief counselor why complete strangers will tell me their life story. He said it is because they know I will listen and not judge them. Don't take me wrong, there is nothing I like better than being alone, but I do very well in social situations and can discuss most any topic. Even though I was able to tick every trait on the INTJ checklist, I fully embrace the traits that are not.

This series has the greatest explanations of mbti and the underlying jungian principles that I have found on the entire internet. And believe me,I have searched long and hard for descriptions as good as these. As you so well described, my INTJ self achieves superiority over my environment through greater understanding and as such I am wholly engrossed in the mbti system as a means of understanding, organizing, and predicting the world (well, at least the people in it). As such I've watched and loved all of the videos in your series. Incredibly detailed, insightful, and nuanced exploration of type with a hidden wit and charm that literally had me laughing out loud a couple times per video. That's a great video. You've understood exceptionally well the model and provided me with great insights. It should be noted, I think, that Nietzsche's idea of eternal reoccurrence is not just "a beautiful idea incoherent with the facts". As you pointed out, Te is concerned with the facts and more importantly the results of the INTJ's actions. Nietzsche I think was well aware that eternal reoccurrence has no empirical validity. But it was a means to an end! Eternal reoccurrence is a tool for him to push himself (and others) to have exactly the life he wants through willpower. If you think eternal reoccurrence is true, then you'd better not live a life you don't want hoping for a perfect "afterlife"!

Regarding INTJs threading on the edge of narcissism, I think all IxxJs might have a propensity for codependence and what's called as "inverted" narcissism (or perhaps may have been driven to narcissism by their parents [as golden childs] and then may have failed to maintain the superior image and may have collapsed on themselves, so in a sense they are "failed" or "abortive" narcissists. In that vein, ExxPs might be prone to narcissistic personality disorder in that they have a weak true self, and a false self amplified by their Se or Ne. If you "collapse inwards" the functions of an ExxP, you end up with an IxxJ. IxxJs and ExxPs need to exercise and develop their shadow functions so as to be able to break free of the reins of their dominant Ni/Si (superego, inhibitor) or Ne/Se (id, disinhibitor, amplifier) functions and so that their ego can finally overpower (or at least match) their id or superego. (ETA: Thereby, bringing their true and false selves together, i.e., repairing their split ego) ETA: When I say functions do this and that, what I actually mean is that the presence of a specific/given function denotes (is the manifestation, end result of) a specific attitude in the individual's psyche.

@joshuatunis6732

It's a fantastic video, but after watching it I find myself having a few minor objections to the material. The most prominent of which is the assertion, stated numerous times throughout, that the INTJ is prone to ignore facts and reality--that they will *overlook* logic and data in the perpetual hunt of adding uniformity to their vision. I find this backwards; vision stems from the way reality is molded, not the other way around. Vision is no good if it can't be used to predict or understand the world. Logic, rationality, and data are absolutely key to constructing an intuitive framework. I've never heard the INTJ personality type being described as one who blatantly ignores information for the sake of being correct. I did learn a few things, though, such as how Fi supplicates to Te. Te is consistently open to outside information, and will acknowledge it regardless of whether or not Fi is prepared to deal with the repercussions.
@MichaelPiercePhilosophy
@MichaelPiercePhilosophy 9 лет назад
Joshua Tunis You're not the first to mention that, and I think you're right -- I should have phrased the information differently, because the INTJ's preference for Te actually does mean they are very focused on the objective facts to form their vision. What I believe I did was mixed up Te with Se: looking back through famous INTJs I've realized they all demonstrate the interest in facts and data you're talking about, Karl Marx being a great example of this. I am thinking about clearing this up in a future video, but for now, the point is the INTJ most certainly is focused on and wants to ground their vision in the real world and have it work in the real world because of Te. Repressed Se means that they may spend a possibly unhealthy amount of time envisioning the future rather than living their life in reality, or focused on understanding the course of events than living life, or when they do try to live life it can be (emphasis on "can", of course) a challenge for them to not overindulge. But I don't suppose that jives any better with you, or you have any comments on that?
@joshuatunis6732
@joshuatunis6732 9 лет назад
Michael Pierce Actually, it does. Being that the repressed Se function you alluded to is an aspect I can closely relate with, along with the explanation in the video about how a nuanced Fi will recoil in shock upon the realization of a hurtful, yet indubitable truth (e.g., she's cheating on me, and truth must be accepted as true). As for Se, I oft find myself unable to simply enjoy the moment as it occurs, instead contemplating what's happening and why. Only when the moment is gone have I caught up am prepared to enjoy it, meaning the only pleasure comes from thinking about it afterward, using the information collected during the experience. It becomes difficult to let go, to let the spontaneous be self-serving. I also think it's curious that you chose Karl Marx as an example of a fellow who was supposedly interested in facts and data, as I personally believe that Marx and his collectivist precepts, on the contrary, did not wholesomely follow reality, instead being focused on the struggle of castes; this would explain (to me) the popular breakdown of communist principles over the last 30 years. I tend to be much more of subscriber to Ayn Rand's rational understanding the world around us, i.e., from the perspective of freedom and capitalism. Another great point from the video was that of tunnel vision, both a boon and a curse depending upon the circumstance. I hope this wasn't a digression.

It makes much more sense to me that our intricate DNA, that the complexities of our cells, that the perfect balance our ecosystem has, was produced not by chance through the explosion of a pin, but by Intelligent Design. If you believe the pin story, where did that pin come from? Someone had to make it. Even if you believe the Big Bang, somebody had to have created that matter. Matter does not come from nothing. There has to be a Supreme Being. That's why I refuse to believe the Big Bang.

Ludwig van Beethoven We don't hate it per say, but we tend to be perfectionist in our grammar because we fear/hate being judged and criticized by it. Hating bad grammar is more of a subjective appeal than a general characteristic of a type. Obviously it could be altruistic in nature, but the salient point for me is that it's according to the INTJ's vision.

MrHejke How'd you work that out? What is a soul to you? To have soul or not, you'd have to be able to clearly define what a soul actually is. And most peoples view of a soul is an overly subjective and romanticised entity, suggesting that most people don't really know what it really is for sure, as it's only a feeling, and a feeling that people cling to for comfort when it comes to the far future, and for a feeling of being special.

@ianhaines8007

I'd like to add onto the notion of the introverted intuition vision as it pertains to the INTJ. The INTJ is much more divergent in their thinking as opposed to the INFJ who is more convergent in their thinking. Therefore, the INTJ can see so many more possibilities of how events will unfold and will have more detailed assessments/analyses and understandings--this really gives them the title of 'Mastermind'. As a result, the INTJ has better insight into which ideas will NOT work, and thus they are more critical of ideas and plans for the future (this is also due to their extraverted thinking which strives for the best rational system). Moreover, once they've exhausted what they see to be failed plans, there are only maybe a few plans left and they prioritize which plan shall be used as "Plan A", "Plan B" and so on. Furthermore, their ability to believe which plans will fail gives them confidence because they can then logically explain how and why a plan or idea will fail; however, it should be noted that sometimes they are not always able to completely understand how and why something will fail, rather, they will have a vague notion that is inexplicable at the time.

In my experience, INFJ's are notoriously bad at understanding INTJ's due to Te blind spot; watching this video feels like being in a house full of Fe users, with everyone taking you the wrong way. Having such a critical portrayal is like watching some INFJ relative summate your life at your funeral, describing you completely inaccurately without you there to have a chance to explain who you are. It's crazy that this is on RU-vid. Smh

Mark Zuckerberg is probably INTP. And Nikola Tesla is usually typed as INTJ, that is true. But he was actually ENTP. His intuition was Ne, not Ni. He was interested in many ideas and inventions, not ONE strong vision, like dominant Ni users are. Also, his thinking style was not Te. He had no idea about strategy and his business decisions were... well, catastrophic. He certainly didn't see life as a chessboard. Also, he did not want to use his ideas in reality; he simply wanted to invent more and more things. He had strong eidetic memory, which would indicate a Si user. During the last days of his life he had a strong sense of routine. He had dinner every night at exactly 8:10 PM. He also went to the park to feed the pigeons every day. That would indicate a sense of routine that mainly Si users have. Yes, he was anti-social and withdrawn, but that doesn't necessarily automatically make him an INTJ. Tesla fitted perfectly the archetypal "mad.scientist" stereotype. He was not a strategic visionary. Just compare him with doctor Emmet Brown (ENTP) from Back to the Future. ENTPs can also sometimes be socially awkward and withdrawn. In any case, ENTPs are known as Inventors and INTJs as Strategists. Tesla was certainly an Inventor, but not a Strategist. For more information about this, just visit www.personality-tests.info. Otherwise an excellent video. As an INTJ, I certainly agree with much that has been said. Great job!

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! And I appreciated your comments; you know what you're talking about. The typings I use in the videos I draw directly from CelebrityTypes.com, since I don't have enough time to do all the research for each individual myself. So I can't make a judgment call on whether Mark Zuckerberg or Nikola Tesla really were INTJs or NTP types because I haven't researched them myself, but I can explain how I (as a non-expert) have learned to see NTJ vs. NTP, and whether you agree with it or which category you think Zuckerberg and Tesla fit into is up to you. Intuition is rather associative; by that I mean that while sensation looks at things with a clear, sharp lens so that they can examine the actual thing, intuition looks through a blurred lens so that its easier to associate the blurred image with other things they've seen before, to use their intuitive imagination. That looks like a bird! Or a plane! Or maybe it's this other thing! So, the difference between Ni and Ne is what this lens is looking at. Ne looks at objects, Ni recoils from objects, and only views them from a degree of separation: through how they impress the subject. Which is why Ne appears much more energetic usually because its more direct, while Ni tends to want to hold back and examine the impressions first. So, the distinction between whether Tesla was Ni or Ne would be whether his invention was based on innovating from already existing objects, or delving into his own mind and impressions and innovating off of those, accumulating a meshed vision, and then trying to bring it to life in various ways. Ne generally appears very clever, even meticulous and mature about exploring possibilities, because while their energy and flightiness can make them appear reckless, they are meticulous in the sense of not giving their ALL until they've explored all sides of an issue (which they may not every finish doing). But Ni is more rash in that it delves into whichever side of an issue grants the most yield right now, getting very excited by their beautiful idea and pursuing it with their ALL. Ne is more flighty and noncommittal, while Ni is overcommitted. Both can come up with many ideas, but Ne is more meticulous and multifaceted about it while Ni dives deep into it. As for Te vs. Ti, the INFJ seeks to make their visions more logically complete and consistent, to make them an internally perfect system (Ti), but Te doesn't care if it is logically sound theoretically, but only if it works practically. Te wants to have control or power over the objective world, while Ti wants power over their own subjective world. I think Tesla demonstrated this Te because his intuitive visions were not internally consistent, but were directed at getting something done in the real world. INTJ vs. INFJ; they will often disagree on this level, where the INFJ wants to make their ideas make sense logically while the INTJ wants something that can exhibit power or control over their environment. The ENTP is more like the INFJ in that they are more a thinker than a doer. They want to explore logical consistency over practical application. The INTJ is more like the ENFP because they share this Te drive, but it's much easier to tell those two apart because the ENFP demonstrates a warm whimsical Fi. I don't know if you agree; you probably don't, and that's fine, because you've made some other very good points such as ENTPs being potentially just as withdrawn (very very true) and points about Si, and you're right, I don't know how Tesla demonstrated the chessboard mentality I talked about. But those are the main reasons behind my thinking, and I hope they are useful to you!

INTJ = repressed/inhibited/disciplined ENTP. Ni is abstract. It gives a sketch, an outline of an idea/concept. Te-aux collects utilitarian data from the environment (the mechanics of environment) and passes it over to Ni for internal analysis. The conclusions of the analysis are then checked against external Te data. They also have a strong shadow Ne (like INFJ) so are able to generate possibilities (weaker than an Ne-dom but most likely as strong as an Ne-aux). @9:50 Ozymandias vs Rorschach and Nite Owl II @11:00 INTJs do not have the overbearing personality ENTJ though they are sometimes confused for ENTJs and vice versa. I think INTJ like other IxxJs have an overactive superego so they cannot be any more narcissistic than an ISTJ or IxFJ. Russell Crowe looks like an xNFx.

Michael Pierce Discussion on MindMastery 's channel provided some further insight into INTJ type. Quoted from internationalpsychoanalysis.net/wp-content/uploads/2011/07/McWilliamsschizoid_dynamics.pdf *"Arthur Robbins (personal communication) goes so far as to say that inside every schizoid individual is a hysterical one, and vice versa."* Also from Schizoid PD wikipedia page: "A new therapeutic operation of "remembering with feeling" that draws on D. W. Winnicott's concepts of false self and true self is called for.[34]:126 The patient must remember with feeling the emergence of his or her false self through childhood, and remember the conditions and proscriptions that were imposed on the individual’s freedom to experience the self in company with others. *Remembering with feeling ultimately leads the patient to understand that he or she had no opportunity to choose from a selection of possible ways of experiencing the self and of relating with others, and had few, if any, options other than to develop a schizoid stance toward others.* *The false self was simply the best way in which the patient could experience the repetitive predictable acknowledgment, affirmation, and approval necessary for emotional survival while warding off the effects associated with the abandonment depression.[34]:123-143* ... The dismantling of the false self "leaves the impaired real self with the opportunity to convert its potential and its possibilities into actualities."[34]:127" These might be parallel to my suggestion that INTJ contains a repressed ENTP inside. I cannot decide whether the false self is the INTJ mantle and the true (or abandoned) self is the repressed ENTP or the false self is the overdeveloped superego and the true self is the underdeveloped ego. However I feel atm that the first version is more accurate. And I theorize that what Jung referred to as the shadow is the true (but weak and repressed) self. The more the rift between true and false selves (i.e. the stronger the repression of the true self) the higher the risk of developing a PD is I guess. And recovery can be achieved by making peace with the repressed self i.e. self actualization. Also the pdf document also contains this interesting quote as well: *"My own guess about why this is so includes the observation that high-functioning schizoid people are not surprised or put off by evidence of the unconscious. That is, they have intimate--and at times uneasy--familiarity with processes that in most people are out of awareness, an access that makes psychoanalytic ideas more accessible and commonsensical to them than they are to those of us who spend years on the couch hacking through repressive defenses to make the acquaintance of our more alien impulses, images, and feelings."* I guess IxxJs are extremely self-conscious, which also gives them insight into internal processes and defense mechanisms.

Here's my take on the whole facts thing and yes I'm 100% right 90% of the time. I don't have to deal with all the facts. I just hire people to do that for me. Howard Hughes and many like him had the imagination ,determination,and I don't give a crap what anyone thinks attitude. What they did was surround themselves with people that can put the ideas together and make them work. Its all part of the game of life. Using your resources to your advantage. I admit spelling is not my strong point. For those critics. A few things I noticed they tend to leave out in many articles or videos. Intj is not a heartless bastard i think people think. we can be very forgiving, patient with people (even though we may tend to think they are wrong or if they would just listen to us how much easier this job would be) don't usually hold grudges. I know a few intj's and like me are very friendly and can get along with anyone. I think mostly because we have a good understanding of people and how and why they do the things they do. Also being well rounded in just about everything and anything you can think of makes it easy to start a conversation or get along with people. Yes I can be very hard to understand to most people but I think people tend to think intj's are not in touch with reality to much. we can be very in touch with reality. Just depends on the current situation or what were doing at the moment. when people say im cocky or being an ass. I just say no im confident and there's a difference. The truth hurts . If you are not going to like the answer to the question don't ask it. Especially in a subject matter I know what im talking about. .I'll say prove me wrong and I"ll say i"m wrong. 99 % of the time they can't. I lost track of my original thought . Sorry people. One last thing . All the intj's I know also like sticking up for people when they are being bullied or mistreated :)

The desire for mastery over the environment is actually often a desire to make things better for everyone. INTJ's are natural listeners; energy flows into INTJ's, and as years go on, they develop an understanding of the environment. With that complex established, they know where to insert a puzzle piece in order to have an intended effect. They are like air traffic controllers, knowing where to delegate resources in order to make improvements. I think they are often idealistic and want to help. The reason that they have an edge to them is because they are constantly taking in information about other people's intentions and thoughts. If you don't have or use the functions necessary to have these observations for yourself, then maybe you should take their word for it. Being empathetic (in the "cognitive empathy" sense of the word) wouldn't be a bad thing except for the fact that most people are extremely selfish, mean-spirited, and arguably unintelligent on a relative basis. When you have to take in all of that energy and information all the time, it gets frustrating. And you get an edge to you. But that is not the nature of an INTJ. An INTJ's nature is a dreamy, idealistic listener; but what they do is mirror back a lot of the "evil" in the world, which they are exposed to. So they gain a second aspect and therefore a dual-nature: an INTJ is innately a dreamy, idealistic listener, but develops into a strategic, ruthless counter-puncher as a *result* of their exposure to the rest of society. The latter is not "who they are." ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Zg1RzCwrZMs.html

I concur. I know what I know, and I know what I don't. In this unique knowledge of the unknown, I can know everything and nothing. All is available to me for dissection, including the me that I use to dissect. I've always described how I view other individuals as a kind of external stimuli and little else; which tends to hurt others feelings, and it shouldn't because I don't mean it in the way they imagine I do. My mind is a candy land of infinite ebb and flow in which I do not yet fully show the capability of control or understanding. It's a wonderful process to behold from the inside. Although, I'm can imagine how others could become frustrated in their dealings with me.
