I want congratulate and thank infinitely Morrissey mum to bring such an special awesome person in this pathetic mediocre world... His music gave me the strength to bear the stupidity that reigns this earth....
The Smiths delivery is so amusing and brilliant at the same time. Fantastic music with a blend of sublime lyrics delivered in such an entertaining fashion. Definately the best band to come out of Manchester and arguably the UK (and therefore the world).
@aupathletic27 Being British is not glamorous. It is not poetic. It is not affluent. It is simply existence. Art for art's sake. It is in our blood and the only country which really compete are America, though they lack our slate-grey skies. I hope that ONE DAY I shall reach the passion's horizon. The horizon I so tenderly march towards. Take care and be proud of who you are. Oh, and move to England. But not when the Conservatives are in power.
This live performance early doors in Derby shows just how fantastic this band were live...and why so many promoters are desperate to get them to reform for a tour!
@aupathletic27 Well I'm from England and will be studying Popular Music at Goldsmiths University in London this September, so I should be able to give across a fair opinion. English people are NEVER HAPPY. The majority of the bands you mentioned came from drab backgrounds and searched for escape. Sting from The Police was a school teacher before a pop star. Morrissey was bound in his Manchester bedroom surrounded by James Dean posters reading Oscar Wilde and Sheilagh Delaney...
@aupathletic27 Even when bands reach the pinnacle of fame they are not happy. Look at Pete Doherty or Keith Richards. I am similar in that I have lived in the lifeless town of Taunton for several years. I write poetry and music to seek escape. I also refuse to accept that I am at all talented, though I do recognise I am different. I am a huge perfectionist, and can be a bastard when it comes to music. I also have Ireland in my blood like Morrissey and Johnny Marr, which may be a factor.
UnderTheAffluence I can instantly recognize the Irish soul in your words. There's a sense of dreamy poetic despair combined with a sense of playfull eternal optimism. Freud said the Irish are the only people impervious to psychoanalysis(and lets face it we are talking about 85% of British working class folks that have Irish Blood at their core - 'Irish Blood, English Heart'). I think if you want to understand this, the nature of these North Western island peoples then The Smiths should be your first port of call. Real Bhardic Song'smiths'.
Morrissey practices celibacy. Someone may be gay, straigh,t bi ,etc.,and practice this, but he does not define himself in such terms. He embodies a true original sexuality that keeps us all intrigued and mystified.
I respectfully accept your disagreement. The reason I made that comment was because this song and What Difference Does It Make in particular are real crowd lifters. Recorded, they have real energy so one expects the live version to really be powerful, let they always seem disappointingly lame live.
