Morrisey, the singer/writer of the Smiths along with Johnny Marr, always struck me as one dramatic dude. Check out their big HIT, "How Soon is Now". Even tho' it's overplayed, if you've never heard it, you MUST give it a listen. One of my favorites and what some might call a "banger" is "Bigmouth Strikes Again". Listen for the tiny high voice in the chorus...

Sweet! I still have the vinyl copy of Hatful of Hollow that I bought in high school. It is something of a compilation album so it's packed with gems beyond "How Soon Is Now?" and "This Charming Man", like "What Difference Does It Make?", "Still Ill", "This Night Has Opened My Eyes", "Reel Around the Fountain", and "Please Please Please Let Me Get What I Want". We played "This Charming Man" in the band I was in my senior year. Morrissey was always going through some thing or another, at least in his songs. But he also wrote his interpretations of books and movies into his lyrics, so the songs are not necessarily autobiographical. Never the less, back then we said The Smiths were the band you listened to when you needed to hear somebody in a worse off situation than you were. Heh. Definitely check out more from The Smiths. The album tracks like you listened to here are a great place to start, especially if you want to get lost in the sauce of the instrumentation.

Morrissey is a great singer and lyricist, Marr is a unique and very talented guitarist. But let's not forget the amazing Andy Rourke on bass. RIP Andy.

Singer, Morrissey, can write the best depressing songs, and by the time their over you feel cheered up.

A lot of people always think he is so depressing but in actuality he just has a dark dry sense of humor

Yeah - you need to try ‘Girlfriend in a Coma’ for an upbeat sounding tune with a negative (if dark humour) line of lyrics… superb!

Great! I suggest more Smiths and Morrissey (the singer.) Check out The First in the Gang to Die. Thanks.

Lol nobody's more miserable than Morrissey !!! The Smiths just have a vibe about them. One of their best IMO is "What difference does it make"
