I miss those days when I was a kid in the train led by ALCOs, sitting near the window seat enjoying the view and the smell of diesel smoke puffed by old ALCOs reaching the coaches behind, my mom used to hand me a kerchief saying not to smell the smoke but little did she know that smoke was like a deodorant for me, every time I smell that smoke I used to get goosebumps of how those powerful diesel engines in locos churn out power to haul tonnes of load. Love towards trains was in me, in my blood... I don't know. I used to get fascinated by them when I didn't even know what were they. And here I am today watching this video to relive those memories.
We used Alco railroad engines to power our air compressor. It was the world's largest dedicated air compressor 2000cfm at 2000psi. It was used to create air explosions under water for oil exploration. Ours had 1800hp and required an air turbine starter to spin it over.
What beautiful rich, saturated colors! These scenes are as colorful as the old Indian miniature paintings. Love the sound and power of these diesels, quite unlike the new whirring electric engines which sound more like oversized kitchen appliances. Greetings from the California desert!
7:52 is the best … I am a aircraft pilot, but I still sometimes prefer to travel by train. it's the best way to look at our beautiful country. traveling in trains brings back lot of childhood memories, that's something the coming generation might never experience. your videos are awesome dude.😃😃
true brother its like going to basics , where time was so magical and the beauty of nature was at its finest and beside why are we in a hurry , where we are going we are all travellers and passerby here and thank you sir its almost lunchtime here ...
@@bujecan It most certainly IS NOT! Alcos suffered from serious turbo-lag. That is why the Santa Fe got rid of their PA3s, They were always being fined by Calif's AQMD.
@@RameshKSingh-gp2mx News Flash! Electric locomotives DO NOT SMOKE! These smoking locomotives are Diesel-electric locomotives. They smoke due to a too-rich fuel mixture because of a slow spinning turbocharger. When the air/fuel mixture is perfectly balanced (or more air/less fuel) the smoke disappears. Stay safe and healthy.
@@RameshKSingh-gp2mx Factory? Are you crazy? Electric locomotives get their power from power plants. And they're not all fuel burning. Ever heard of hydroelectric or nuclear power? Or wind? Or solar? Or tidal? Get your facts straight before making a comment. By the way, we Alco fans love them because they have a character that other locomotives don't. Just saying.
Stunning rail video!!! Awesome images with Diesel Locomotives, lovely engines sounds & horns and great smoking! Good work, master! I like very much this video! Big LIKE Respects from Romania Andrew
In Sydney, Australia, where I'm from, we used to have a whole bunch of smoky alcos just like those seen here (max 2000hp, though, not 3000hp like those shown here). Never saw anything like the train from about 7:50 onwards, though. That's some serious smoke. Almost up there with the 260 tonne garratt steam locos we used to have. Double headed, starting at the bottom of a 1 in 40 they did make a sight - watch at ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--1EWpCQP7eE.html (from Belbin Video). I wonder, though, if there's any fuel actually getting burnt when there's that amount of clag!
@Heiwajima Shizuo good on them with electrification. Don't quite know how you convert a diesel electric loco into an electric one, though. But then I'm not an engineer. Maybe someone else knows.
I just love these engines so much!!! Their sound, their make out, just everything about them! Just a sight of them makes me feel ecstatic!! Instantly subscribed your channel!!
Angry volcanoe Alco chugging and chucking all the way for even after five years, this video watched by rail love birds many times afresh. Great video and thanks
true its title the smoking wizards shuttle lakhs across places. wonderful and pains taking video. kudos. whole heartedly. ur uploads are valuable. people after two decades will astonish after seing the diesel trains like forty years before scrapping steam locos.

and the double header at 3.46 (what a magnificent passage!) and at 4.55 the staccato beat of the clacking wheels ... what sweet music!....at 7.19 (Shatabdi???) really speeding....its smokin at 8.20......each clip unique; Thank you again, VishG

DLS, Thank you for you and your team of rail buffs for we senior citizens who find it difficult to chase the trains which we love so much. Can you please tell us which is the green colour train at 1.38 with double headers. I believe diesel double headers have a common control so that there is no confilict. I have always wondered how double headers steam locomotives coordinate as even a slight difference of torque between the two will result in one locomotive always acting as braking force and consequently slowing down the train. Any comments? rgrds VishG
ViswaNath GummaRaju Thank you very much for your encouraging words Sir. We are honoured that you have liked our videos. As you rightly said, the double headers can be controlled from the front locomotive itself and regarding steam locomotives i am not so sure of how they used to work. At 1.38, the train is 06512 / Jaipur Yesvantapur Garib Rath Special (which is now not running anymore) headed by Twin WDM 3A locomotives from Diesel Loco Shed, Moula Ali (MLY), SCR.

Alcos means the particular types of engines use in indian railways !! And the full form is "American locomotive company" And about pollution : See the over head wires !! This video is 5 year old !! May be electric loco is running now in these routes !! Indian railways 100% electrified its all routes till 2025 !!
