Its a miracle this even went to overtime with all the fumbles by Minnesota.

Honestly the decision to not run the ball with Adrian Peterson here to set up a game winning field goal should get just as much heat as the Seahawks not running Marshawn Lynch at the 1 yard line.

They should build a Statue for Tracy Porter because he made those two interceptions in the NFC Championship and Super Bowl 44

This channel has already become my favorite NFL highlight channel on RU-vid. Able to relive some great games from my younger days and see great highlights from games I wasn't able to watch at all or in their entirety.

What everyone remembers about this game is the 2nd Favre INT, but he was incredible in this game. Some of the throws were simply remarkable. That Viks offense was supposed to be built around the run game with Favre as supporting cast. But he was the reason they had a shot at winning this game. If the NFL had college OT rules, Favre and the Vikings might have a super bowl title.

I think this one hurt worse than the '98 game. The Vikings would of gone on to win the SB where as in '98 I felt it was Elway's year to repeat.

Adrian Peterson flew under the radar as a fumbler. His great plays overshadowed a career of consistent fumbling. I'll never forget the play where Clay Matthews ripped the ball out of his hands and ran it back for a score. Peterson laid there acting injured to cover up the fact that someone literally ripped the ball from his arms out of pure strength. The man was a great RB, but he was a damn fumbler - this game alone proves the point, but it was time and time again for this guy.

This game probably cost Favre a couple years of his life. He got annihilated on just about every passing play

That interception gets talked about a lot but what about all those fumbles? Twice in the redzone they cough it up. Then the Percy fumble puts the Saints offense right on the Vikings goaline. Peterson was dropping the ball "all day". A total choke job by the Vikings who really should have been up big by the time that interception happened.

Can’t believe how the Vikings were so close to winning that game even with all those fumbles and picks

So many fumbles. I still to this day have no clue how Adrian Peterson got back on that ball at 7:10 . He was on his knee and there were 4 or 5 black jerseys around the ball and he was the first guy on it. That was some hustle and a half there.

The Vikings history in NFC title games is almost unbelievable.

Turned it over like 7 times yet everyone talks about Favre

The int at the end is what people remember but before end of half a missed handoff inside the saints 5, then late in the third Favre throws a int at the 30, then harvin fumbles at their own 10, and then Berrian fumbled inside the saints 15. With 3 of those turnovers inside the 30 and 1 inside Their own 10 is the Vikings don’t lose one of those turnovers it doesn’t take OT that’s not counting AP and harvins fumbles that were recovered by Vikings

Are we not gonna talk about Pierre Thomas? He was basically carrying the Saints offense all game long.

People will blame Favre for his terrible interception at the end, but holy crap did you see all those missed opportunities due to fumbles!? Like 3 lost Viking fumbles this game including the one that would've gotten them AT LEAST 3 points before the end of the half.

These bountygate hits would definitely be flags in today's NFL... hell some of them actually were flags in this game. Also the fact that the Vikings almost won despite fumbling constantly, despite playing in the Superdome, and despite the bounties... that's pretty impressive.

That was my first season watching and playing football in germany. No one was talking about football and it was not that popular than it is nowadays. You didn't even found german news in google. I was so hyped for the Vikings. I didn't know any teams and my couch came around the corner with an Vikings Jersey #28. Since then I become a fan. Best season ever despite this L. All the pictures of the players and plays I remember from 2009 give me chills all the time.

Even if Favre had pulled it down & ran for 5-6 yards, Longwell's FG would've been blocked & returned for a TD to end the game. The Vikings are not allowed to get to a Super Bowl ever again. Either they get blown out or a bunch of weird things happen & they lose a close one.

Both playoff match ups between the Vikings and Drew Brees' Saints resulted in tremendous football game.

I remember watching this game as it happened and man I did not recall the Vikings fumbling as much as it did lol. I just knew AP had trouble holding onto the ball and this is the game where that conclusion came from. The fact they even had a chance blows my mind but they did whoop my cowboys pretty bad that year so I didn't feel bad for them.

Its an absolute crime that the main thing people most people remember about this game is Favre's INT at the end. Favre took dirty hit after dirty hit all game while his teammates were fumbling all over the place. For the first 59.5 minutes he was the best player on the field at 40 years old and the only reason the Vikings were even in the game. But he made one bad play at a crucial moment, so everything else gets lost to time.

Brett Favre was like Mankind in a WWE hardcore match this game. Saints defense annihilated him. Definitely Favre is and will always be the toughest QB of all time

The Vikings actually played the better game. If they didn't make so many bone-head mistakes (like the fumbles or that 12-man penalty), they probably convincingly win the game.

Love the New Orleans Saints; they'll always be my team, but that being said beating Favre was bittersweet. I always like Favre he was so exciting to watch and I kinda wish he'd gotten a second ring.
