I want to talk about the often forgotten SNES Control Deck! This thing goes by A LOT of names, and it was kind of the first "SNES Mini." Watch as I try to find out more about this late version of the Super Nintendo and reminisce about my experience getting it as a kid. Hope you enjoy!

I bought one of these without a game included in 1998 for $30. I'm 100% sure. I also bought mine just to have it, as I already had an original SNES. Genesis 3's were $30 by this time, and I wish I had bought one of those, too. I did get a $30 Model 2 Sega CD on clearance at a KayBee store in early 97ish though, despite already owning one. lol Man, I miss the days of cheap last-gen systems!
@ErinPlays
@ErinPlays 5 лет назад
Okay, this comment makes me SUPER happy because it shows I'm not crazy! The Genesis 3's were ALSO that cheap back then? Damn, I missed out. Too bad I was an idiot kid and only kept with Nintendo because it was familiar, lol. At least you got the cheap Sega CD!

Comparing the Genesis 3 to AtGames is laughable. $30 to unlock a whole new library of then-cheap Genesis games would have been totally worth it in the late 90s.

Hey Erin, I purchased four of these units (still own them) from Target near the end of the SNES JR. life span. These systems were Target exclusives with Zelda, the Link to the Past packed in. The best part is, I only paid $34.99 per system. I still have my receipts as proof!!! Awesome video and looking forward to many more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I remember seeing one in a glass case at Toys r Us and I said to my friend “That’s a Super Nintendo?!”. I had just gotten the Super NES Killer Instinct Set probably a year before, when the N64 first came out, and she had the Super NES Donkey Kong Set. I didn’t really know about it or own one until years later when I got more into video games.

The only Super Nintendo I had was that one, and I never could figure out what it was referred to. Tonight, it was irking me so I went in search and found information, and here I am! I don't think I ever had anyone challenge me on it, but we thought it was a newer version of the Super Nintendo and just went with that. I had the Kirby All Stars package. Good times!

I've never seen these before RU-vid. I grew up with the original model NES, and didn't know about the top loader until AVGN, and that sounded more convenient. I didn't know about this model SNES, probably since it came out in the late 90's. The only classic console I had different versions of was the Sega Genesis, I think I've owned every model made by Sega, even the Nomad handheld that ate AA batteries for breakfast. But awesome video to showcase it, and find what history is out there!

I don't ever recall seeing this snes advertised in print or commercials, although it's possible that it was. I only became of this version a few years ago. It's possible that it wasn't heavily advertised because the snes had a long lifespan, almost ten years. And games were still being sold at retail for it in the early 2000's. It's definitely one of the greatest consoles of all time. I'm glad you still have yours.

I had the original model growing up and I played it so much that I killed it. One day it wouldn't turn on. I was sad that I was no longer able to play it anymore. I think it was a week later my Dad came home with the model 2 SNES. I was confused at first because it didn't look like a SNES but it played SNES games and needless to say I was over the moon. Dad came in with a huge save for me. Awesome memory.

I bought one of these in 2003 from Rhino Video Games for $20. It didn't have an RF switch on the back like the original SNES, so I had to use the component cables to attach it to my VCR. I had just seen "The Ring" and tried to record my Mario Paint drawings on tapes so I could print them out like a scene from that movie. The SNS-101 was also easier to hold when using the Game Boy Camera with a Super Game Boy.

When I was a kid, back in early 90's me and my friends had the regular Super Nintendo and never saw this mini model until I start collecting back in 2009. Since then, the SNES jr or SNES Baby, as we usually call it here in Brazil, became my favorite model. I still like the regular model for nostalgic reasons, but due the high prices, today I rather have the mini model as my daily driver SNES.

A few years ago, my brother gave me both the SNES and the Junior model. The Junior works great! There’s no corrosion or dust! The SNES was sitting next to the Junior in his garage in a box, yet is the grossest looking console! There’s a spider web in it, and a lot of pins are corroded.

I got my SNS-101 from Blockbuster when they clearanced out all their SNES games. At the time I had a Sega Saturn which was getting no 3rd party support and barely hanging on to life so my older brother felt bad for steering me into getting a Saturn in the first place and snagged it with a few CIB games and I never really thought much of it in regards to the design until a few years ago when I dug it out of the basement and realized how different it looked compared to all the other Super Nintendos i had seen.

In South America, it was really hard to get original games and consoles, so we're totally used to pirate made-up names such as Poly-Station or Family Games (shaped as Sega Genesis), so when I hade my SNES, it was totally normal to me. A cousin of mine had the original one, but I never really cared for the difference. Now, I still have it and it, working perfectly and box displaying in my library. I just have to get new controllers as I destroyed de D-pad playing before I got my PSX. Enormous console filled with to many great memories.

Excellent video as usual Erin! The SNES mini is the SNES I own. I bought it back in the spring of 2004 at GameStop when they were slowly beginning to clear out all their SNES stuff along with most of the classics like Mario World, Mario Kart, F-Zero, DKC 1 and 2, Killer Instinct and Super Punch-Out, no Yoshi's Island at the time unfortunately. I also decided to get it because I got real sick of ROMs. I freaking love that model the best despite the lack of the eject button and what I really like about it the most about it is the SNES mini and the N64 both using the same A/V cable so I don't have to keep changing the cables on the back of my TV, I can just take the A/V cable out of one system and put it in the other and I don't have to keep taking the NES coaxial out. Whenever I'm traveling to a beach house or rented town house for a vacation, I always bring that SNES with me to help kill some time.

It's weird how most people's original Super NES seemed to turn yellow, but mine didn't. It's still light gray, like it was when it was new. I also have one of these smaller SNES consoles. I always called it the remodeled Super NES. I probably paid around $100 or $120 for mine on ebay, 10+ years ago. The only thing I wish it had is an eject button. The top loader NES definitely needed an eject button. I hated having to use both hands to pull the games out.

I still have my "4-switch" model from Christmas 1980 or 1981. Very dusty and needs some serious TLC in the electronics now, but as of a year ago it still powered on. Someday I'll mod it to work with a composite video since TVs don't really have analog RF anymore, but gotta get it back in good shape first. Interesting note: Mattel released the Intellivision II in '83 and Atari released the 2600 jr. in 1986, after the NES came out in 1985, so Nintendo certainly wasn't the first to refresh their hardware as sales fell off.

Atari actually came out with a smaller 2600 sometime in the mid 1980s. I remember the commercials advertising it for under $50. I didn’t hear about this until a saw it on a RU-vid video.

Very similar story for me. I was worried my games would all die and they would all dissapear. I hadn't yet realized emulators. I sold my original SNES to buy one of these and repurchased some of the players choice versions of games to give me a few extra years ;)

I saw this New-Style Super NES console in the late 90's-early 2000's, likely 1997 to 2000. I also know that Majesco (first known as a re-releaser/reissuer of old titles that had been abandoned by their original publisher) arranged with the Sega Genesis being re-released as Genesis 3 and the Sega Game Gear being re-released as the Sega Game Gear Core System around that time.

I've been playing Killer Instinct SO much lately, the only fighting game I really like. I still have my original console and game but I bought a snes mini and put the rom on it for a "back-up". ;) I love your tech vids!
