I am 70 years old. For almost a decade from the mid 1960s, the mohair sweater was the thing to have in junior high and high school. Mohair was everywhere. But you always wore it over a high necked blouse with long sleeves because it was so damn itchy. Every girl had one or more in a pastel color (pink and baby blue were the big colors). They were almost always cable knit and were as much an item as blue jeans were at the time. Mine was a Christmas gift. I was never so relieved when mohair went out of style and to this day, I won't wear it. I am curious. I know Sezane makes some items from alpaca wool, and wondered if it is itchy.

Yes their knits are itchy yet expensive

I don't personally find alpaca itchy. It's one of the softer fibers for me, but I'm not too sensitive. I love the mohair looks from the 60s and was happy it's back in style but it can be so itchy! Loved hearing your memories of mohair from the 60s!
@Moonchild0517

Well some are super itchy buu not all. I am not too sensitive, if they are not very itchy it doesn't bother me much and I anyway always wear a shirt under everything. I don't think they are expensive compared to other companies and especially if you think that they are mostly 100% some kind of wool.
@susantescione8007
@susantescione8007 7 месяцев назад
Just like people have variations in hair texture, so do sheep. Whether or not a garment itches depends upon the size of the platelets on the outer shell of the fiber. If the fiber has large platelets. it will bother most people. Cashmere has finer platelets than does mohair, which has large platelets. So mohair tends to bother people more than does cashmere. You can buy a sweater made at a specific time from a specific goat or sheep, then buy the same sweater in a different color with wool from the same type of sheep and one bothers you and the other doesn't simply because of the genetic differences in the animals. When plants that process wool buy it, it could be the exact same type of sheep, but those from a certain area have coarser fibers than others. These companies grade the raw wool when it is purchased and blend it according to customer (usually the company that spins and weaves the wool) requirements. It's just like some people have straight hair and some people have curly hair. Curley hair is coarser. Merino wool does not bother many people. But when I was in the Navy, we were required to have pea coats that were at the time made from very thick merino wool. The Navy used it because it has a high lanolin content and is more resistant to the damp and cold than other wool fibers. And some people thought those coats were horrendously itchy. So it is very kind of you to estimate the itch factor for you, but the reason you can buy the same jumper at two different times with the same content and one itches and the other doesn't is due to the genetic differences in the individual sheep.

I don’t own any Sezane knits but I did order a few of the tops and sweaters you featured from your Simple Retro video. I like them very much, very soft , comfortable and an affordable price point. I’m waiting to find a Sezane knit in the pre-loved market or in the next archives sale. Thank you for your videos!😍

Great video as usual 😍 I have the Louise Jumper in 3 colors. They are soft, the light grey is my favourite and least scratchy. It is slightly oversized and looks awesome. The green is beautiful and I also have it. The navy from last year looses a lot of "threads". I would say it ranks with Othello but with beautiful cut. I

The itchiest sweaters I own are my heavy duty wools ones from Filson (a jacket-like sweater) and Devold, a vintage sweater made in Norway. They are also incredibly warm, however. The Filson was a gift from my parents last year, and I wear it over other sweaters. I absolutely love it (it might be my favorite). I live in one mock neck knit from Vince without issue. My 10-year-old daughter also wears a Vince knit I handed down to her. She is incredibly picky about fabrics due to sensory sensitivities, so this bodes well for Vince cashmere blends. My knits from Reformation tend to be very soft and comfortable. As for Sezane, the Betty's and Matthew's are wonderful and warm, especially when layered. I am waiting for the black Lyna to arrive in the mail. I bought one Sezane knit with the embroidered detailing on the sleeves and, while it is a beautiful and flattering sweater, the neck is itchy.

Hi Mila, James Jumper is nr.1 from the softest knits, I agree! 😍 I noticed that same of the pieces in different colors are also different when it comes to "scratchiness". The most itchy one was for me Angie cardigan in blue, which I tried 2 years ago. I´ve heard that Angie is now quite soft, so I think that Sezane is improving their fabrics. I find the best wool combo (besides merino wool) their mix: super kid mohair + merino wool + polyamide

Definitely agree that the Abigael is so soft. I do always like wearing something between my skin and wool in order to not have to wash the wool too much, but I’m struggling to find something low cut enough to wear underwear it. The only solution I can think of is to buy two so if one is out of commission the other is available 🙃

The trick with vinegar is the same what you can do with your hair: rinse with vinegar (just a teaspoon), cold water etc. It just makes the hair cuticles lay flat and feel soft and smooth.

Hi Mila, great video! I adore all the Sezane knits but unfortunately I find all the alpaca & mohair sweaters too itchy against my skin. Even with a top underneath i find the edges on my neck and hands itchy. Saves me some money i guess! 😅 But the merino wool and cotton knit are great for me - I just wish they would do the Gary jumper in more colours!

I love Banana Republic, Quince and Lily Silk cashmere, and Bloomingdale’s Aqua cashmere line is pretty good (I like how they offer cashmere in more interesting styles and colors, like stripes), and Club Monaco, which also offered a neutral stripe and a contrast-trim style I bought. Because I live in a mild winter climate, Quince’s are the best for me, the knits are on the lighter side. But, their selection is more limited in some colors and styles. I love the collared Polo sweater, but they only have it in dark colors. So, I got the lighter colors I wanted from Banana Republic, plus they have them in Petite, which I love. The softest knits ever are 100% silk (hard to find and not warm enough for the cold season) or a silk/cashmere blend, my favorite at Lily Silk. I bought several “sets” of matching cashmere skirts and sweaters from Quince this year, they’re great basics. I love skirt sets because I get a dress look and two great separates. I also have many of their matching cashmere joggers, but again, they only have darker colors in the bottoms.

I love this video. I am normally not sensitive when it comes to scratchiness, however, I would stay away from a higher neckline. To me the worst is Otis. I scratched my throat bloody, no joke. The material is ok, but it is too high on the neck. Otherwise I sometimes use silk scarfs. The throat is my most sensitive part, so I avoid something too high. Tschau Petra

what a very helpful video❤ While I don't own as many pieces as you do (I am jealous of you!😂) I do agree on all the same items I own. For anyone looking for a warm sweater that is not scratchy at all and also is 100% merino wool I can recommend the James sweater as well. It's warm, it's soft, no scratch at all and also no polyester! I also agree with the Angelie being one of the softest ones from all the mohair blend mix.

When you see too many knits like this, that’s probably lacking skirts/tops/dresses 🫢🙈 I’m happy to hear the video was helpful and you agree with my recommendations! I looooove James, it’s so chunky, warm and cozy. Super comfortable! Angelie is pretty soft for the composition, with all that fuzziness, I was waiting for a super scratchy knit. It surprised me though in the best way possible 🫠

I absolutely love the softness of the Quince Mongolian cashmere fisherman knits. Also, the Quince cashmere 'boatneck' sweater as well as the 'batwing' sweater styles are among the best purchases for knitwear that I've made in years & years. Every time they're on my body I can't believe how much I love them. The weight (perfect thinness) and cut of those Quince cashmere sweaters is perfect. I didn't want to love them because Quince is trending, but I do. I also purchased their organic cotton fisherman sweaters. Those are great too, but the organic cotton is heavy in weight in comparison. On the flip side, I find the itchiest sweaters in general are acrylic blends throughout fast fashion brands and I've reached the point where I can't stand them. I only want to wear natural fibers. I'd like to try some of the Lily Silk sweaters but haven't yet.
@milainnewyork
@milainnewyork 7 месяцев назад
Agree 1000%!! Love the softness of all the knits, so cozy!! The boat neck one is my favorite style but they’re all really flattering and super comfortable. I tried the cotton ones but didn’t like them on me, I think I can benefit from malleable/drapey fabrics better than more structured/heavy ones. So glad you love Quince too, hope they ship worldwide one day!! Oh just like you, I can’t stand acrylic and polyester blends, especially on knits. Once we try natural fabric pieces it’s hard to go back (fortunately)!! Lilysilk is amazing , you’ll love their clothes ❤️

Lastly, for Sezane sweaters, I have almost worn my black Othello cardigan out! So soft and versatile. Total love. I also bought the new Abigael sweater that you spoke about and am so in love - beauty and total comfort. I want to wear it all the time. I'll look for more Sezane wool sweaters know that I know how fabulous the Abigael is. I actually just sold most of my cotton Sezane sweaters (Leontine, etc) because they just weren't feeling the way I wanted them to on my skin. No drape and too thick. But I love Sezane and I'm eyeing the Eleanor. I have a lot of black so I'm hoping they'll release the Eleanor in another color.

@kimberlyperrotis8962
@kimberlyperrotis8962 7 месяцев назад
The fibers from Sezane fuzzy sweaters get in my eyes constantly, it’s so uncomfortable. It can take days of trying to flush them out, they’re clear/invisible. They also shed like crazy, covering every surface in the room just from a quick try-on. I take them outdoors, closing the door behind me and shake them out, but it just keeps happening. I’m going to try tumbling them in a no-heat dryer cycle, to see if that helps, the filter should catch these large fibers. But, I expect that I will not end up wearing them much, despite their beauty. My trial of them was essentially a waste of money, I expect.

I haven’t been able to tolerate Sezane’s knits with alpaca, mohair or synthetic fibers. I bought several, but should have returned them, they itch like crazy even with a silk tee underneath. I like the merino in the Betty cardigan and the wool/cotton blends much more. I have to stop falling in love with the pretty colors and styles of sweaters they have, or at least stop buying them!
