@@giorgiogazzola5972 he wasn’t that bad at it, all things considered he was raised by people who were straight up hitmen like his father. He also offered to do the hit right here and didn’t have much reservations doing everything else lol, Bobby was as ruthless as the rest of them. He just didn’t have a temper problem like everyone else that’s why he doesn’t come off as gangster as maybe Paulie or Christopher who constantly kill and rob people.
Actually he says, "What's this we're in, the Navy?" Hate when some idiot gets the words wrong The lines of this show were written just like a song, each word specifically chosen from among a million others and now some youtube pissant is trying to rewrite it
I always loved how Bobby says "tell Tony I will do it myself if he wants" while trying to protect his dad. Even back then Bobby was capable and very hardcore if he needed to be.
He only killed the French kid in the laundry and delivered a threat. His loyalty and his family connections were his best assets which in Tony's crew was rare
The funny part is that he says it like he actually has any influence. Tony basically let him keep the title just in the hope that it might fool somebody.
Junior was old school. A Mafioso needs a mix of fear and respect to get as old as Junior. Notice how much Tony changed from Season 1 to 6? He started considering clipping damn near the whole family. He almost whacked Paulie, he whacked Chrissy and Tony B (though B brought it upon himself), Tony became a loose cannon and extremely paranoid. He was too emotional, every one had to live by the Mafia code in his glorified crew except for him. Shit, he whacked Ralph over a fucking horse.
@@JohnDoeTheGoodGuy Funny, I always thought it was fighting back, and the can of raid, if Ralphie woulda let Tony whoop his ass instead of trying to kill him too everything would have been fine, but of course he wasn't going to do that y'know cause of the coke.
He didn't treat Bobby that bad imo, especially since Bobby was tough when it came to busting his balls, he never took it personally. I always thought that Junior cared a lot for Bobby after he took care of him many years, especially when he is excited to see him when Bobby visits him in the mental care home.
Junior's power? He never had power to begin with, not the power of a true boss at least! He was always a symbolic figure, in fact he was more of a puppet, a "fall guy" in Tony's eyes!
+Kanguesso Kang But he was still the second most powerful person in the family after Jackie died, definitely more important than all the captains except for Tony. Here he is indeed a puppet.
+Kanguesso Kang That's true, but also you can't deny that Junior's crew was very influential, it was the biggest crew in the 90's and Junior lead it 100%. Moreover, the underboss of the family, Joe Sasso belonged to it, and also Mikey who was probably a consigliere and maybe the most dangerous individual in the entire organization, devoted entirely to Junior. Apart from it, the mere fact that Junior had the official power was very apposite too, technically he had to give an OK on every pertinent issue of the family. Furthermore, it was stated a lot of times that Junior was utterly allowed to earn, everybody kiced up to him, and money is the reason why they do everything in the first place. Last but not least, he could do everything he wanted without any consequences whatsoever, just recall the scene where the captains met in order to discuss the death of Rusty Irish who died to Junior for a silly reason. If that's not what you call power man, I don't know what you do xD I obviously concur with you that Tony was the eminence grise of the family all the time, but Junior was probably a close second. That's at least in my judgement ;)
jfjsas07 You make a valid argument, no doubt. But I have to disagree. Tony stated SPECIFICALLY that the only reason junior got the title as the "boss", and that's all it was a title, it was to fool the Feds, When in actuality all decision making was being done by Tony and Tony alone. There's an episode where Tony is blasting his crew for not kicking up the full share to junior, junior was in house arrest and Tony's crew stopped kicking up to junior and Tony had to remind them to do so. Now since when do you have to be reminded to kick up to the boss? It doesn't happen, your reminder is a bullet in the back of the head or a night with the fishes. Unless it is a boss no one respects or cares about. Junior's main source of income was coke, he had to rely on selling coke to survive or even pay his lawyer fees. A true boss of a major family has tons of different revenue streams, from prostitution, to car theft rings, gambling, extortion, construction and more. Junior didn't have that, Tony did. It was because Junior was a fake boss and everyone knew it so they refused to kick their full share to him. They'd kick up to Tony and keep the rest. Junior had no real power, the power he had was that he was related to Tony and that's it. He didn't have a real "Boss" power. Every time junior wanted to whack someone Tony would step in and disagree. And Mikey? Mikey was nobody to Tony's crew. They didn't respect him or even fear him. Trust me, junior was a puppet!
This was the first time Bobby showed real backbone. And it was because of compassion for his father. He said "tell Tony I'll do it myself if he wants!" And I firmly believe that he could have and would have. Bobby was very level headed. Very capable.
crazy how the beginning of the show sets you up to look at junior like the one who is approaching death and needing support from his younger family members. in the end it was the opposite, and he outlived all of them without even realizing.
So much foreshadowing in this scene. Junior's instinctivly a hard man, but he's talking to Bobby, who's as loyal as they come. He respects Junior and his father, and is willing to help his father off the toilet with no shame: Junior's got to consider who of his relatives would do the same, considering he knows how his health is declining. Bobby would do it without a hesitation. Bobby is old school: he's got the integrity to stand up and make his bones to protect his father, but man enough to reveal his human side. Tony is correct in that Bobby Snr is perfect for the hit, but it's an arrogant correctness, revealing his dislike of being questioned, and no consideration of what he's asking of the people involved. Bobby has instinctively shown the old values of respect, loyalty and obligation, Tony thinks he's pragmatic but has an arrogance and insecuity that indicate he is unwilling or unable to accept the responsibilities and obligations his position holds: he's willing to sacrifice people as long as he gets his result. His is the path of loyalty to him, Bobby's path is loyalty to others.
God damn Bobby’s arc throughout this show is absolutely heartbreaking. Things are rarely going well for him in his personal life first his father dies because of this hit, than his wife dies even more tragically, than he’s treated like absolute shit for probably years by junior and Tony. He eventually makes underboss yes but at the expense of being married to Janice lol. Then to cap it all off he gets fucking murdered. He is a criminal yes, but at the very least a decent guy who you could easily root for. He’s not nearly as selfish or malicious as literally everyone else in this show.
I love how in every sopranos video the comments are full of people debating the rules and codes of the mafia...like they're made guys or something...it's hilarious.
Maybe they all work for the Sopranos crew? You never think about dat? Let me tell you a couple of three things. Listen to me. They make anybody and everybody over there. And the way that they do it, it's all fucked up. Guys don't get their finger pricked. There's no sword and gun on the table!
I’m sure he just spent it all on his lawyers and retention fees and shit. Not to mention he didn’t even beat the case, not really at least they only deemed it a mistrial and planned to try him again later on.
it made sense to send in Bobby Sr. because he was mustang sally's godfather therefore could get near him with no suspicion and or questions asked, the problem was it was too much for his condition, but it was a sanctioned hit, one which the father willfully accepted, and as bobby said he was losing his dignity he was so frail, and the others commented at the funeral that he had lung cancer, so chances are he was not going to go out well either way.
The description of this video is wrong it was Gigi who ordered the hit and Tony Ok'd it as he says to Johnny Sack at the restaurant after he said Junior reached out to him to ask Tony to reconsider
I just thought about it. This is pretty similar to when in the pilot Junior wanted to hit Pussy Malanga in Vesuvio "because that's where he feels safe" and Tony tried every possible way to help Artie.
Tony could have sent both Baccalas. Would have reduced the risk, and ensured the job got done clean. Bobby could have done the hit from another spot, entryway, angle, etc. More stupid decisions form Tony.
Tony's selfishness get's Bobby's dad killed, in a very depressing way. Bobby never even gets to say goodbye to his dad because of Tony's actions. I'm surprised Bobby didn't think of getting revenge on Tony for taking his father away this way.
Those short, intense conversations Tony and Junior had on occasion were always great. Tony always ended up getting his way or getting 1 over on Junior, like with the Frelinghuysen Ave garage.
I should think old man Baccala would consider this a great compliment, that in spite of his age, Tony would have confidence that he still had what it took to do the job and could be trusted to carry it out. Bobby interviening would take that dignity away from him.
Suggestion: A way that would have been 3 times as effective would have been to send Baccala SR over there to tell Mustang Sally that he has gotten him a pass, just like he did. Then just leave. Fool him, to get him to come out of hiding and go back to everyday life. 2-3 weeks later you take him out when he isn't ready, using who ever in his circle. He has no way of retaliating and nowhere to go if the hit is messed up.
I like how Junior says "I choose not to ask Tony" after failing to convince him. Unlike Jackie Jr. who says the stupidest thing ever "Sure he lets you deal outside of the club"
Think Junior and T cared about old man Baccala in their own way. Him and Junior would have come up through the ranks at the same time while T looked up to him. You could defo see the mutual respect in the scenes between them, like when Tony and him were chatting outside the church at Febbys funeral.
Sometimes I forget how good Jr’s character is… at this point in the series, he’s slowly losing his mind from the early stages of Alzheimer’s -but every now and again- he’s gotta snap himself out of it just for the sake of appearances.
Out of everything in this show...besides Sil...Bobby and Uncle Jun were the best...shits were like meetings/talk to your therapist/talking to you Father/Grandfather 🖖🏽
Well, go home and get your fucking shinrbox. It's my favorite character and I wish they'd do more with it. Small hands, that's your fucking problem. You'll never have the makings of a varsity commenter.
