But Vito, Chris and Furio had nothing to do with Tony personally. Vito being forced out of the closet is not something Tony could fix, in that world Vito is done. Furio left because he wanted to bang Carmela and I really like Christopher but he would have been whacked in Season one or two in the real world.

@@Dave-jm3zfI don’t know about Christopher. Real junkies have existed in the mob and they don’t always get whacked as soon as you might expect. And Vito wasn’t in Tony’s crew. He was captain of his own crew.

Not to mention the whole Versuvio explosion was caused by a hit uncle Jr tried to make that got botched. Tony B made mistakes in both his hits. Bobby was sloppy in his. The Russian. The reason Tony was still in the streets is that once Tony took over they typically don’t send they’re crew for hits. They call their people in Italy so they have plausible deniability. When they were goons hit Carmine they sent the black dudes, when they were gonna hit Johnny they went with the old guys, when they hit Rusty they used the Italy dudes. Whereas Phil sent his own people.

The thing is Christopher and Eugene got their fingers pricked when they were made, and it isn't clear if there was or wasn't a sword and a gun on the table. Phil just assumes that the New York families are the only legitimate ones there can be, and that any others don't know the rules. The entire show, from that perspective, is about the tension between the guys trying to keep to the old rules going back to Italy, and younger guys who don't care about codes or honor. Tony's family isn't the gang that couldn't shoot straight, but there was some carelessness over there, to be sure.

Just off of how much I saw you guys enjoying those first 5 seasons. A lot of the humor has gone by this point in the show. Even The Sopranos home is quiet and dark with the lights off now. One thing I notice watching these reactions, is how the NY crew basically get along with each other and kind of just do their work (except when there’s a power struggle)… while’s Tony’s crew seems To take things personally and always have small secret beefs with each other. In the end their loyalty is to themselves, regardless of what Tony says about “the family”…
@kylethompson3008
@kylethompson3008 6 месяцев назад
The guys from Italy never had a shot at Phil. He was already in hiding after placing the hits on the others. In some ways it's smart to get guys from outside the crew since Phil would recognize Tonys guys coming up on him and also for plausible deniability but we also see the downside of having hitters who don't recognize the target. They did every other hit well in the past, though. Also Silvio loyalty is one of the best things about this show and he's taken out like 5 guys

Phils official declaration of war is one of my favourite scenes in the whole series, it shows how truly bitter of an old man he is, how are you gonna brush off your own men's deaths as reasons to go to war and instead focus on the fact that Tony never got locked up? This is the only "hit" that Tonys crew has failed on. If you ever go back and watch the show Tony and his guys are highly successful. Technically, those hitters aren't part of Tonys crew but sent from Italy. Tony backed out of a couple like the one on Johnny Sack and Carmine Sr, but they've always got the job done. Phils crew has more soldiers but is more disorganized with bad leadership. Oh and Chris did get his finger pricked when getting made so Phil is making shit up

About the whole thing with Melfi and Elliot and the study, that was so out of left field and at the last minute that it never felt right to me. They could have brought that up a long time back and let it build slowly. But what I do like about it though, is that we know Tony better than Melfi does, because we've been inside his head, many times. I don't think Tony is a sociopath, though he definitely exhibits a lot of sociopathic behavior, and then of course in their last session he sits there and validates her biased perspective as a result of having given the study serious thought. There is humanity in Tony, there's a conscience. This is where we could get into a debate over nature versus nurture (or, more realistically, the combination of the two).
@natea2247

Well that's what I like about sopranos. People are more than just black and white especially Tony. Is he a sociopath? I don't know but he does have sociopathic tendencies. Yes, he had humanity like all those other mobsters but they are all garbage people. Whatever sort of compassion they have is overshadowed by their actions.

Seasons 1-6a Tony has a lot of relatable and humanising moments that make him likeable. 6b doesn't really have those moments and has Tony committing some awful acts like killing his nephew and being awful towards Bobby and Paulie.

Idk if there’s anything to it but someone once pointed out that The Sopranos is loaded with classical tragedy and Dr. Melfi’s name is supposed to be evocative of Delphi because she is almost like the Oracle of this show. And the moments she abandons Tony, all hell breaks loose

In an earlier episode, Dr Melfi told Tony "If you want to be a better gang leader, read the Art of War".

i know yall picked fargo to do next (great choice) but you have got to do OZARK after, its just as good as the sopranos, just as dark and violent and has hilarious moments

Sil should’ve BEEN ON HIS TEN. that writing for his death was SO sloppy bruh. he’s the smartest guy in the family, he would’ve had his gun on him.

I disagree. I think Silvio does bad under extreme pressure - take his brief stint as boss with Tony in a coma, he just got completely overwhelmed. I can see him being sloppy in a war, with him likely being extremely busy and stressed, as well as the fact that he probably hasn't been involved in a real war. It's definitely flawed but I don't see it as a real issue with the episode. It's sad when they go young like that.

A little late, but here’s my two cents-in the Phil Leotardo war, Tony’s family being a “glorified crew”, where is Larry Barese in this? He was mentioned as having the biggest crew in the family. He was totally absent during this whole deal. He could’ve brought some muscle into it.

I hope you guys do check out the movie when this is over. On its own it’s a good movie, but as a fan it was a disappointment because it strayed from canon. Please watch it as a wrap up before you check out ‘Deadwood’ and ‘Rome’…2 HBO classics you guys NEED to react to.😎
