I interpret this as the sadness behind the song. The feeling of having no one to talk to and battling your inner demons alone. As a person battling depression, I cry when I hear his version. It speaks to me more than the other versions.

Agreed on the sadness and depression. There's moments of hope and fighting spirit as well, but just like with depression, it never truly disappears and returns towards the end. Gotta keep fighting those battles, and keeping that hope!

I'm old so I heard Simon and Garfunkle when they wrote this song. Got blown away when my granddaughter said I had to listen to Disturbed's cover. Now OMG!!! Geoff. We don't see his clones but they are there. Yes, please everyone subscribe to Geoff and VoicePlay and become patrons for more fantastic music.

He sent out an instrumental track to his patrons, that low Jurassic Park bass/earthquake sound was included; not Geoff. This is the only cover he's done where he is singing harmony but NOT showing the Geoff clones. I knew the flowing hair would get you!!! I am always here for Geoff and Voiceplay!

I don't believe there is another musician out there that can create arrangements that capture the emotions of a song like Geoff can. He's a master. All. The. Feels. I also love hearing more of his incredible range. His bass voice is still my favorite but that Eb4 was seriously impressive. I love what he did with the background music/percussion. It really ramped up the feeling and anticipation.

The changes he made are so incredible, in reality. He used a lot of Major and minor switches, using relative chords. Take it from someone who composes music, it's pure genius. I can understand what he did and does on other songs, but not that I would have considered doing the same. That's the magic; many people know what he did, but we didn't think of doing it.

Dunno, it's definitely a take on Disturb's version of The Sound of Silence but it seems to lack the feeling and emotion that they gave the song. If anything it feels rather.... Flat and lacking. The only thing it has going for it is his ability to have that deep bass going.

Another fan said it best...Simon & Garfunkel's version was the "warning", Pentatonix's had a little more "power", Disturbed's was the "anger", and Geoff Castellucci's was the "sadness and hope".

I also loved Disturbed's version, and the original of course. But this is a whole other thing. Geoff getting quite carried away. :) Yes, that juggernaut going past is quite something. And yes, it must be something supernatural, how else can he produce something like this? An angel? Quite possibly.

As a bass, I can tell you, yes, his runs and riffing done down low, especially, are more difficult. The reason being, we have thicker, heavier vocal folds, so getting them to move this smooth and quick for riffs and runs is a bit more difficult than for a baritone or tenor. This is one of the special things about Geoff that makes him so unique and jaw dropping. I can hit every low note he does without issue... hitting his riffs and runs are something I cannot even come close to; most bass voices aren't built like that.

I love the execution of this song. Both the way the backups come and go, that seemingly empty stage and the hollow, echoing drum beats. It all feels to me as if it’s in his head. In the ‘vision’ planted. That the only bit in the real world is the part sitting at the piano.

Geoff does a most haunting and beautiful rendition of this song. Grewing up on S&G it has always been on my top 5 list of songs. Please take a listen to the version by Tommy Johansson as well. It's more lamenting, as he sung his song in hommage to his best friend that he lost in the start of Covid, whose favourite song it was. Also a beautiful version but a different one from Geoff. Luckily one needn't chose, several versions can co- exist.

Pentatonix also did a cover of this song but it is more a cover of the Disturbed's version. After so many years Geoff was still able to bring something new to this song and I love it. That's what makes it so special.

I have been and still am a huge fan of the Draiman version - BUT - this is easily it's equal. They are so different they are like two entirely different songs, and not in competition. This is gorgeous and I love it. Which I listen to has got to be simply a mood difference.

As always, you are the most entertaining reactor. Love it. :) This was such a different version... Definitely divisive because some people just couldn't get past their favorite version, whichever it is. But when people see this is a different emotional journey and not the same song they typically love it. (Yes, Pentatonix covered it. It is my other favorite, because it is so different from Geoff's that I love them both.) I doubt VP will cover this because Goeff did and they try not to compete with each other. Homefree could be interesting. Hmmm... But didn't Tim Faust cover this in a collab with someone else already?

Geoff is a great arranger. This one is interesting and very well done, but it's #3 for me. PTX version is my #1 and Disturbed #2. Love Castelucci - especially his Ghost Riders in the Sky (incredible)

Awkward moments -yes. I once said Thor was Geoff's understudy in hair flips 🤣. The S&G original hits on so many levels, and so does this. Geoff's version isn't a matter of "owning" it, it is adding a layer of interpretation that adds so much to the original.

I love Geoff's version of this. To date, Simon and Garfunkel was my number one version. I have listened to Disturbed and I thought it was a very good version but also felt that the anger was a valid extension. It also felt a bit one dimensional to me. Geoff incorporated so many emotions into this piece that it has moved into first as far as I'm concerned. Gorgeous and stunning, with all of Geoff's range and emotional content, it took my breath away. This man has so much talent and skill that I must listen, then listen again. I am glad I have so many reactors I'm subscribed to because I get to hear your first takes on what Geoff can do. Thank you, friend. And I'm still waiting for my episode of covid to go away. Day 18 so far. No longer much in the way of symptoms but with the post-nasal drip, I'm getting close to Geoff's low range and I'm a 72 yr old lady.

I can't get into his really deep tones. Pentatonix is my favourite version and I'm a big Mitch fan so maybe that's something to do with the fact I don't enjoy this bass.
