for the iShipIt Logo (20:40), i think its a huge metaphor for how they feel unwanted feelings for someone or something. They pack it into a box and stuff it with hope and love (they hide their feelings away, those being hope and love (admiration and the feelings of a general crush?)) And trimmed with stamps unorthodox (incase they ever show their feelings: they wont think about it, but it'll always be there, and 8'll have acknowledged it.) just my 2 cents, hope it made sense :]

10:48 from my point of view, i think agent 8 used a squeegee at some point during their escape from octo valley. when you paint the floor in front of a squeegee it will move to where your ink is. maybe agent 8 was using a roller during their escape from octo valley to lure the squeegee to an octo shot so they can could have a higher chance at escaping.

For the line A mem cakes I always assumed the ones not linking to agent 3 vs agent 8 were agent 8 spying on a turf war but that’s just my opinion and you’re probably more correct than my guess. ( I also think that the Goldie one is 8 mocking inklings or it’s just how she thinks that they think of goldies.)

F Line - Marina I like to think Marina was also a famous musician. Considering *Turquiose* October and the Octarian leitmotif in the Ebb and Flow demo I think it is very possible Marina was once a member of them. Whether or not she was with them though, I do believe this was also what 8 was referring to.

6:40 i think this one is about how salmons are waiting for a lot of years to come out if the water to migrate (nights grow long, summer abates), and now they finally can, so they'd want to celebrate it. Plus, the salmons we see in salmon run wouldn't be the only salmons in the world, so most wouldn't be getting hunted by inklings. The last line also links back to the flyfish in the "firework" part, since flyfish shoots ink into the sky like fireworks 12:26 also, this one is just about how easy it is to spot curling bombs, so there's no stealth or intelligence involved. "Forshadowing imminent spew" means the enemy team painting over your curling bomb 19:41 this is probably talking about how toni kensa is a more modern recent brand, with modern black and white clothing. So cities and concrete would make sense when compared to toni kensa

F Line - Mr Grizz I don't think 8 was referring to Grizzco, especially since she doesn't explicitly mention them. I imagine that Octarians mustn't get payed because of their wack economy, and that this is the cause for her thirst for money. This relates to the Goldie cake.

1:55 this one is my favorite mem cake. i believe "a stray shot shakes the trees awake. the summer turns, here comes the fall." is a way of saying a tree's leaves were fired at accidentally, and like the turning of autumn, are now a different colour. 11:04 there is a level in the splatoon 1 hero mode with the subtitle "ink stains and teardrops." it doesn't have very much to do with splat bombs, but it's probably referencing that.

I believe it's mentioned somewhere that the octolings have a trade agreement with salmonids, where they trade power eggs, but they refuse to part with their golden eggs. Maybe octolings participate in salmon run as well.

The octarian dictatorship is a common missconception, the octarians love octavio, Marina had a concert together with Octavio she was a famouse DJ wirh the octarians as well as on the surface, something ppl say abt it being a dictatorship is the octoling goggles, but in official art agent3 messes with the octoling soldiers and takes their goggles, the goggles just help with aiming etc

The "ishipit" memcake seems to be a meta reference to the fandom practice of "shipping" characters. The name of the cake/mascot seems to be making fun of itself. Also I just realized something: The reason why 8 doesn't seem to care about the Sea Scrolls is because she can't read them. Most of the scrolls are just straight forward logs of human life written in "ancient" English/Japanese. We can read them just fine, but most Inklings/Octolings can't.

I think the curling bomb one was about how people use them to make a trail of ink to get close to you, thinking that theyre being sneaky despite their obvious ink trail, and you know someone going to pop out of the trail to shoot you

for the splat roller: i think it may be that eight is often distracted by simply playing with the roller rather than focus on the game's goal. the end essentially meaning that they're fine with that because one strike from a roller can splat someone.

The Tony Kensa line is about how the brand is purposefully black and white in order to stand out when splattered with ink on the map. Tony Kensa’s brand describes its purpose as going for classic black and white in order to allow the ink to look even better when splattered on them.

Line B - Octozeppelin 'Starry sky' maybe a reference to Shooting Starfish, the song that plays during those starry levels that Octozeppelins generally appear in.

21:44 this poem could be referring to the calamari inkantation. "Her" song, as in just hers is bomb rush blush, but the inkantation is Marie's AND Callie's. Plus it's confirmed that it inspires octos to leave octarian society, and the poem says the song "gave my heart a fresh new start." That's my interpretation tho.

B Line - Tentacle OCTOLINGS DO NOT TURN INTO STAR TENTACLES (I think). Star tentacles come specifically from Octavio. Severed tentacles come from all Octolings, but Octavio's must have some unexplained power that makes them stronger. Although I must not that it is possible Octavio has starred tentacles simply because he is a boss, and all bosses have star tentacles. I prefer my view though. In this case, I imagine Agent 8 is referring to the tentacle exploding as this is the tentacle's only 'fate'. To power the machine, until it is defeated (by an Agent) and explodes.

I think the Tentatek memcake is referencing that Tentatek brand is a very sporty brand. Perhaps Agent 8 might have ran track at some point.

The thing I always wonder, is are these 8's memories, or the memories of people who died in the subway that she's now finding. It would explain some the scenario's she probably couldn't have been in, as a soldier below the surface such as the ranked matches. Or maybe some of each? Unless of course, she, like some octolings had started integrating with the inklings a bit before octo expansion and then somehow encountered 8

I Line - Marie This whole poem is a reference to Tide Goes Out, Marie's solo number. Of course the beginning part makes sense to us English speakers, but when we consider the Japanese name which is Night Dressed in Sauce (don't quote me on that I forgot the specific wording. It may have been Night Dressed in Soy Sauce) things begin to clear up. The beginning line speaks of the tide 'removing the light', and it becoming nighttime. The 'inkstained nights' in the last line are also a reference to this. I do wonder though... Isn't soy sauce literally called 'purple' (murasaki) in japan? Maybe this is a meta reference; soy sauce = purple = ink, so a Night Dressed in Sauce is also an 'inkstained night'...

Think Line A's mostly describe imaging Inklings and life in Inkopolis, with the fighting referring to what they imagine Turf War is like or what they'd do in one. Recall that returning to the main game before beating the Expansion is done through the "Imagine Inkopolis" function. It's likely that Eight thinks about what life and Turf War there are like a lot.

Some Squeegees in real life are large rollers identical in appearance(albeit a lot smaller in mass) to the rollers in Splatoon so I think that's what it's referring to on the roller mem cake.

D Line - Squid Bumper She isn't talking about squids!!! Here Agent 8 must be describing the squid dummies in the testing area. It seems that the plastic produced by these doesn't disintegrate, and so as each squid pops and regrows an inkling in the testing area must be continuously wasting and litering the area with plastic bits. Because Agent 8 grew up in Octarian society where there was such an energy crisis and everything is wack she had to savour everything, from material to energy. Octolings must view inklings as pious, wasteful, ignorant, and unworthy of their resources.

What confuses me about the shop owners is that they somehow know them but 8 has always been underground in the test facility...but does this imply that they have been to the surface before??

the octoling memcake is one of the sadest and grim, but also happy ones in my opinion. Eight is remembering a very intimate moment in their history, with someone that they probably loved very much. The moment described is extremely rare to have with the average person in our society; which means that eight and said octoling were very close. The memcake represents a very delicate and heartwarming moment in eight's history, which makes me think (at least) the octoling eight is talking about could have maybe been a lover, but if not a best friend that eight cared for very much.

I don't really have an alternate interpretation, but I find the assertion of Agent 8 being against Salmon Run to be an odd one considering you can use them in Salmon Run yourself. Perhaps these are memories of a perspective they once held, but their perspective changes after arriving in Inkopolis? I've honestly always questioned who's perspective these mem cakes poems are written from. It's easy to assume Agent 8, but they recite memories of things like Turf Wars, Ranked Battles, and various other people and objects from the surface which implies that they've been to Inkopolis already. I've always been under the assumption that they've never been to Inkopolis until after the events of the Octo Expansion?

i do think line c is a very interesting one, specifically with the relationship between octarians and salmonids if i remember correctly, they have some sort of alliance and shared technology. explaining why salmonids can get their hands on powerful weaponry and how the story mode uses salmon eggs for weapon upgrades. Agent 8 being sympathetic towards the salmonid is very understandable, as octarians and salmonids have that alliance. imagine being in an alliance with a group of people only for them to get continuously killed for someone's profit. :(

When the mention the score with the scrapper cake. Score is another way of saying music so it’s referring to the onward score that does play when the scrapper’s vehicle breaks down.

'as i do laps my color saps; a fair trade for a mighty blow' sounds just like using a roller, honestly- chasing after an enemy with the roller down, which drains your ink tank, giving you turf to move around on- in exchange for a one or two hit splat. the reason it's an exchange is because it's stated that eight isn't patient, and walking with your roller down is slower. 15:53 eight also might be a little scared of bisk, seeing the words she chose. 'sharp gaze', 'hide', 'bulging eyes stare far inside'. 17:18 this could be a very dramatic/poetic 'i'd kill to be out of here', seeing how they see salmonids as bretheren. 17:49 possibly about grueling training they endured in octo valley? 19:11 and 8:15 both could be talking about rain during a battle. maybe the storm quickly got worse as the battle continued. the opponent also might've been wearing zink gear (this one doesn't have much evidence but they both mention rain, and poetry often does dramatization to set a mood) 23:57 okay, this is another theory without much substance, but maybe there are trades of power eggs for other materials between salmonids and octolings? (again tying back into how the octarians are slowly dying due to lack of any good power sources.) i have a few more ideas but!!! yeah, this is just a shorter summery of my ideas
