The Splits an impromptu card effect by Allan Ackerman
Allan Ackerman performs the card effect, The Splits, from his Card Theater lecture notes.
Back in the 70’s Jon Raucherbaumer had an excellent card magic magazine called the Hierophant. He had an effect where you put two kings together in the center of the deck. The pack was spread, and the kings magically split apart and found two selected cards. Jon’s routine would puzzle any advanced cardman, but it was not impromptu. I wanted to extend the plot from a pair to four-of-a-kind, and make it an impromptu card effect so it can be done with anyone’s shuffled deck.
The Splits was created in 1995 and was first published in my Cardjurer lecture notes in 2012 with four named cards. This version with the gambling theme appears in the Card Theater lecture notes 2019. The notes contain the information needed to make this routine a totally impromptu card trick.
