Really a shame they never landed an international record deal back then. They would have been very successful. Their music was equal to or better than their contemporaries. Here I am, at 50 years old, still listening to their music, that speaks volumes.
I went from 15 to 25 in the 80s. The Spoons are AMAZING!!! From then to till now I have never stopped listening to their music. We had so many great bands in the 80s.
Whomever did was a music ignoramus. Other than they both played new wave. They were almost totally different bands in what they sang about, imo. Spoons had depth and intelligence. Duran Duran generally did not (though they had catchy tunes). ☮
This show was worthy of a double-LP release back-in-the-day. The Spoons needed American or English management at this point in their careers. Accomplished musicians with so very much to offer the world and with better connections in the music business of the time, they undoubtedly would have gone supernova in the 80s. Nonetheless, I'm proud to say The Spoons are still a great Canadian band.
100%, absolutely agree. Lack of decent management allowed Spoons to be drastically surpassed in success by the relatively boring "Honeymoon Suite" - and sadly keyboardist Rob Preuss jumped ship for precisely those greener pastures. The Spoons would just never be the same.
Songs are: 1 Smiling In Winter 2 Nova Heart 3 Hands Of Money 4 Romantic Traffic 5 Old Emotions 6 Arias & Symphonies 7 Walk The Plank 8 Tell No Lies 9 One In Ten Words
God I would have killed to be at that show! The energy is palpable. The Spoons are one of the most underrated bands period. They never got the recognition or international success they so deserved but they will always be Canada’s own ❤
That's the way we do things in Québec. We destroy and build condos. They almost did the same thing with Le Studio but fortunately, some people decided to preserve it.
Old memories...wow. When they had this look, they reminded me of Jen and Kira from The Dark Crystal. One of my favorite Canadian bands back then. I watched this on TV...immediately made a mixed tape and listened to it constantly in my Walkman. Haha. Great period for music in Canada.
I honestly think Gord and Sandy were the two hottest humans on the planet at this time. Talk about eye candy! Talented as well which is the reason they really made it but my god, could two people look better than they did? Sandy looks at the camera and I almost melt into my chair and Gord is at least as good looking as Elvis was. Damn, nature was good to those two.
Rob is your guitar teacher!!!!??? Amazing!! They need to do a reunion tour, they still have fans out there!! I was front row at this concert screaming my face off!!!! lol
Awesome show, so talented and damn, Gord in his prime! Welp, there goes a pair of perfectly good undies ruined. Also, Sandy's outfit is on point - would 100% wear it today.
What a great band! I feel so privileged to know about them and what a performance....they all look like they are in their element. Love that ending of Nova Heart! btw, at 1:09 doesn't Gordon look just like John Stamos from Full House?
