The Ssangyong Rexton is the flagship SUV of the SSangyong line up, and it's based off the Ssangyong Musso Grand pickup platform. The Rexton received a facelift in 2020, making this 2021 Ssangyong Rexton 4x4 a 2021 model already. Ssangyong is relatively unknown in the Philippine automotive industry, making them a hidden gem. The 2021 Ssangyong Rexton is larger than the Toyota Fortuner or even the Ford Everest or Mitsubishi Montero Sport. It's almost as big as a Toyota Landcruiser Prado, or even a Mitsubishi Pajero. In this Filipino car review, we took the Ssangyong Rexton to a nice and cool location to test out its performance and comfort. It is quite refined for a pick up based SUV, and the interior materials rival those of European brands. I did a full test drive of the Ssangyong Rexton, and I am convinced that it is one of the best diesel SUVs you can buy for the money.

Recently, Ssangyong Auto filed for bankruptcy protection due to financial distress with its parent company, Mahindra. This doesn't mean that Ssangyong will close, but they will be given time to restructure and secure fresh funding. Automotive bankruptcy protection is pretty common, even among the bigger and well known car brands. Once the restructuring is done, Ssangyong should be in a better position to bring these wonderful diesel SUVs to market.

I'm driving one in Australia. Refined ride, quiet yet adequate diesel 2.2L, spacious and great design inside out with all the tech you need. Can't be happier.

My Uncle bought a Ssangyong Rexton diesel 20 years ago. It is still going strong and never gave him any problem. He even refused to sell it.

Can you ask him how many mileage now on the Odometer and how many parts were replaced ?

@@gutadin5 Nearly 300k. Normal wear and tear, except for some oil leak problems few years back. He only use it as commute vehicle.

I'm planning to buy an SUV and these both Korean brands are playing in my mind; Kia Sorento or Ssangyong Rexton. I've seen other reviews of these Rexton being compared head to head with the Toyota Prado and I can say that this Rexton is quite a "steal" for the price.

Wanted that also, but due to schedule constraints, the offroad camp I planned to visit was already fully booked. My future 4x4 review videos would have a segment like that (hopefully!)

Nice review, the Rexton is a good value for money SUV considering their reliable engine, Im not sure about the MB transmission. Their Aisin transmission on the Korandos are more reliable. Please review also the Korando.

Very capable and value-packed lux SUV. It's a shame that with the ongoing pandemic, the South Korean govt cannot prioritize the bailout. The only hope is kpop marketing collaboration with BTS and Blackpink to entice followers to blindfoldedly buy its cars.

Same sentiment. Automotive bankruptcies are pretty common, so as long as there are investors who can turn it around, then Ssangyong has a great chance of being a formidable market force.

I don't know why but it felt like the tires had less air in this video, however the Rexton is a hidden beast which suppose to be cheaper than it is now atleast 5000 usd less based on current market but other than that theres the steering and feul economy including the road smooth feel that needs a better improvement but overall its a great car 8/10 noting that it has android and Apple while the expensive Toyota doesn't 🤣

Unfortunately here in PH we can not choose trim levels like in Europe. I listed the car when I was looking for a new ride but the two-tone interior (too corny for my taste) and the 20” rim (not the best for ride quality with our poorly maintained/built roads) put me off. The 4x2 variant was not an option for me: just dual airbags in a family car... No thanks! There is a point of no return when you experience first hand what curtain airbags do for you and your family in a crash. Totally unfair the situation Ssangyong is going through with the huge step forward they did in the past years.

Mas gusto ng anak ko itong REXTON kaysa BMW X7 AT Yung ROVER na BINILI ko. All the reason is MAINTENANCE. Almost 17thousand dollar for 1 year for BMW while Rover gumastos kami ng almost 13thousand dollars for 1 year. While REXTON 600 DOLLARS for a year. 🤔🤔🤔

For me, the ssangyong rexton might have quality materials but the fit and finish is not quite there (especially the interior). What I mean by this is that the quality materials are not placed in the right places, and the forms of the materials are not that good looking. It has a look of an old korean/chinese car, at least in my opinion.

Kong hindi mo siya i reseach masabi mo yan. I have one two months palang. Ang masasabi ko maganda pa sa fortuner at montero kasi mga kapitbahay ko fortuner at montero. At nakatabi ko ang everest halos hindi magkalayo sa purma pero mas malaki si rexton.

I love your reviews. Spot on. Really helpful for someone like me who’s car shopping because I’m planning to retire in the Philippines as soon as I can get vaccinated fly over there. Like I said i truly appreciate your reviews. But buddy you gotta work on one thing; you gotta say and pronounce LITER correctly. It’s really aggravating because the word liter is always going to be in the Vlog; the size of the engine and the trunk space to name two. It’s LITER not LETTER. Thank you. Otherwise great reviews
