@@skipmagil They should have just renamed themselves the SoCal Chargers, or something along those lines, so they could have better kept their SD fans. SoFi stadium isn't even technically in LA (it's in Inglewood), and the 2 hour drive from SD really isn't so bad if you're only making it for the 8 home games per year.
A lot of people don’t realize how nice an arena is when natural light comes through the windows. It looks a lot nicer during afternoon games. 3 pm - 5 pm games. Looks gorgeous.
What kind of idiotic question for when the dodgers will get a new stadium? That’s the 3rd oldest ballpark in the league and it’s not crumbling. It’s a landmark at this point
Honda Center is getting a major upgrade. The entire parking lot area is going to be a downtown nightlife area. They’re already taking down nearby buildings. Honda Center is hosting volleyball for the LA Olympics in a couple years. Hence the upgrades.
Dodger fan here. I think if they get a new stadium it should be relocated somewhere closer to DTLA for better access to public transportation. Currently, the drive to Chavez Ravine is horrendous. Not to mention the dark history of how that stadium was originally built. 😬
Really enjoying this "What's Happening in..." stadiums/arenas series so far. Glad you covered my home state California! 👍🏽 I've been to every LA venue (besides SoFi and Honda Center). I remember going to Levi's Stadium in 2021, not in the sun, but in the rain 🌧️. It was horrible.
The biggest problem with dodger stadium is the parking. Ugh. Getting in dodger stadium is a pain. Getting out of dodger stadium is a pain. But the stadium itself is too iconic to be torn down. It's up there with coliseum, Rose bowl, and great Western forum. Angel's stadium? That's Different story.
The golden 1 center has retractable windows! They open them sometimes in the spring when it’s really nice weather. And also they have a really open concept in when you walk in you see the court right away.
I'd like to see a sports district in OC for a new Angels stadium - and a new Chargers stadium. Save enough space to eventually build a new arena for the Ducks.
Uh.................the SAP center in San Jose is NOT a 'small market' arena - in fact San Jose is the largest city in the San Francisco Bay Area with a population of over a million people.
Thinking about it now, I never understood why the 49ers didn't build their new stadium on the site of the old Candlestick. I know the old site did have issues with weather, but in all, it was a huge piece of property.
Despite false claims that Levis stadium was "privately funded" Santw Clara paid 300 million, and fronted the 49ers share of 1 billion dollars, which will be paid back over 50 years. Due to inflation, this loan is still a subsidy.
@@southtext3400 The 300 million was not for the building it was for the land that the the building sits on and the 49ers pay rent on that land every year depending on revenue they receive, so the building was '"privately funded' not like Raiders who got a hand out of free tax payer money.
Two main reasons. 1 The city and the 49ers never got along once Eddy D left. 2 The city wanted all kinds of absurd conditions for any agreement and 3 the 49ers and the York's didn't want to at that location they wanted to be down closer to the HQ. Eddy was all set to rebuild there until his gambling stuff came out and he had to sell to his sister who was an idiot. It would not have been a bad site for football if the stadium was built right. Baseball it is dreadful.
Great video, but you missed San Jose State's stadium...not that there's much to miss. (lol) Interesting renovation that basically eliminated the visitor side seating, and downsized it to around 21K.
The Yale Bowl was the inspiration for the Rose Bowl. Cal’s Stadium is built on an earthquake fault. There’s a gap in the stands where the ground is creeping. Also, why do you keep harping on roofs in CA? We don’t need them here. Plus the Dodger midweek day games are brutal not because of the weather, but because of traffic. You get to fight traffic in the parking lot. You can’t get out of the lot since the freeways are gridlocked. Once you leave the lot, you get to deal with Downtown LA traffic. Terrible experience.
Regarding Sofi, Sunday night games are the best here (5pm start), although Monday night or Thursday night games not bad either for the same reasons. Day games are OK but the roof doesn't really block the glare of the sun. Imagine having the lightest available tint on your driver's side car window and it's the same result. Also it's not 72 degrees inside, on a 90 degree day which is pretty common it will be about 80-85 degrees inside on the upper levels. If it's a true night game and 55 degrees and windy outside, it will be about 60 degrees and breezy inside the stadium (at least the upper levels). It's a good stadium to walk around the middle levels however and VIP areas and suites are super nice. I kinda like Levi's even though it's pretty basic by 2020's standards... and took forever to leave (by train/bus) when I went there in 2015. I also go to Angel Stadium a lot and it's not that bad at all, just needs a few new tweaks and will be good for another 15-20 years to buy time to fund a new stadium or figure out what to do next.
The 9ers not being able to put shade in their stadium because of zoning laws is the most California shit that I have ever heard and it’s fucking hilarious, go hawks!
Hey depressed ginger…SoFi Stadium is actually very translucent. Take a look at the Rams/Eagles game. People get confused…but when it’s a sunny day and it’s early, you can see basically totally see through. It’s not dim at all. Don’t be confused by when the sun is going down. Just a FYI.
I bet if someone was to get heat stroke at the 49ers stadium that they could successfully win a fat lawsuit from whoever says that they cat hold that tarp over the stadium because of some stupid laws even after fans have asked for it to be installed.
How long are the Chargers tied to that building? They get next to nothing in revenue other then their game day. They will not see a dime of money from the Olympics. They would be better off with their own building in LA someplace rather than just renters. Just like the Jets.
@@bobbowie9350 They don't get a dime from any non related football events. They are not partners. Chargers didn't put a dime into the building so they don't get anything except game day revenue. Rams get everything. They will not see a dime from the Olympics Rams and Stan K. get it all. So they are not partners. They are a landlord and tenant, Chargers are the latter, Rams are the former. Spanos pays rent to the Rams every year and gets nothing except Chargers home game revenue and revenue sharing like everyone. Just like the Jets, they are tenants and pay rent.
@@vasiliosthomas4883 I thought it was shorter then that someplace in the agreement I thought is said every 10 years they have an out or something along those lines, could be wrong in that sense. But they are just renters and don't get much money out of it except on their game days.
The Oakland Arena will not be demolished and would be foolish. It's actually not bad, it just needs some renovations. The Coliseum however is finished. That will get the demo treatment just depends when for redevelopment.
Trout negative? Even though he hasn’t play a lot in the last three seasons he still has the top 15 best numbers from all of the baseball players during the time.
It's the way the sun beats in the Silicon Valley which is why the 49ers stadium has that sun issue. If it was built in SF or Oakland it wouldn't have this issue. You're going to get the sun issue in and around SJ such as Levi's.
@@tesstikles3225 💯 when San Diego get their NBA arena build where gonna watch their first game against the Lakers while as we are waiting for the Chargers to return to SD.
Should have included the football/soccer specific stadiums, overall i agreed with the majority of your assessments. I'm from Northern California and have gone to SD and some LA stadiums and Arenas. I love the 49ers but Levi stadium is fucking ugly on the exterior and they should have built-in some canopy at the very least.
Dear god... 6billion dollars for that first stadium??!! It seems like yesterday when nobody could believe that Jerry Jones built the cowboys stadium and no one could believe it cost 1 billion and was supposed to be the ultimate stadium for the next 50yrs.
The new owners of the Dodgers ruined the stadium and the experience. .. . Sell it back to Frank McCourt The dodger Dog is $2.50 Peanuts are $1.00 coke is $1.50. .A ticket is $7.50 And you take cash, not credit cards. ....horrible .
Sofi stadiums hefty price tag isn't what it seems the only reason why it had such an added cost was because it was an old landfill and they had to spend hundreds of millions to lay a solid foundation of dirt in which that first winter just finishing was completely destroyed by the heavy rains they had so they had to start everything over in which they had to re do all the work for that foundation of dirt which tripled in cost from what they had previously paid
@@colbystearns5066You're correct. The person above you just made up a random story. One of the main costs for SoFi was the seismic work that needed to be done because it's built just west of a major fault line. I did over a year of seismic work myself at SoFi. The seismic bill was roughly 2.1 billion itself.
SOFI STADIUM IS BEAUTIFUL AND AWESOME JUST HOST WWE WRESTLE MANIA 39 SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS IS NOT IN SAN FRANCISCO LA DODGERS NEEDS TO HAVE A DONE AND LA ANGLES NEEDS TO HAVE A BIGGER STADIUM WITH A DONE AND SAN DIEGO PADRES NEEDS A BIGGER STADIUM WITH A DONE THE CHARGERS NEEDS TO GO BACK TO SAN DIGO
Sofi is the worst in my opinion. Recently saw Coldplay at the Rose Bowl and it was amazing. Saw the last Rams game at the Coliseum and a few games at Sofi. I can't afford the good seats for me and the fam so we end up staring at the giant screen. Won't go anymore.
Wrong!! The roof magnifies the sun and makes it unbearable in the early 1pm kickoffs early season, and with all sides open the air does not flow well through it.
Greedy charger owners needs to go back to San Diego: they had a stadium. But they wanted public to pay for new stadium there. Niner owners made new stadium in San Jose for corporate people and rich people. And more $$$ as it is right in Silicon Valley. Could’ve redone candlestick park. None of these owners care for fans. 🥴
