"The Star-Spangled Banner" performed by Scott Breiner on the mighty Midmer-Losh pipe organ inside Boardwalk Hall, Atlantic City, NJ. On September 20, 2017. The largest musical instrument on Earth! Video clip filmed on my Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge cell phone by myself. [20170920_122707]

The Grand Organ gives this song it's proper credence and provision.

Amazing how that instrument is able to fill an area like that with that kind of sound and only be around 40% of what it is capable of. The sound that it can push is incredible and one can hear that even across the arena. I would imagine one can feel that instrument as well as hear it with the bass it is capable of.

Oh, yeah. Like disco in the '70s - makes your entire body throb and pulse along with it, but it doesn't actually hurt your ears. I always describe it as "like the voice of God" rushing through you (not intended to sound sacrilegious).

Absolutely. It's got ten 32 foot bass ranks and one of the only two 64 foot ranks in the world. It also has ten stops on 50" of wind pressure and four on 100" (organs typically run at 3-5"), one of the 100" stops is the loudest in the world, the Grand Ophicleide. from right next to the pipes, it's somewhere between a jackhammer and a jet engine in terms of volume.

"Amazing how that instrument is able to fill an area like that with that kind of sound and only be around 40% of what it is capable of. " That's because the stop list was designed by a non organist Senator- the guy who paid for it, he wanted what HE wanted and was willing to pay for it

You are partially correct. The Senator did design it and oversaw its construction but he did not pay one dime for it. The organ was started just before the Great Depression hit and the city was paying for it so the organ was extremely unpopular during its construction. It's amazing it ever was finished at all. Read Steven Smith's book - it has the full story, which is very complicated.

What is amazing, ......... is that every sound you hear coming out of this wonderful instrument is made by wind, the simple movement of air. Think about it, it blows my mind!

I'm not sure why, but the awkward, rangey melody somehow works better on an organ doesn't it? Excellent arrangement and registration.

It's certainly not a tune which will support a non-singer's attempts to enhance the corporate sound.

Absolutely love It! Are you using any external mic or just the built in mic on the s6? If not the sound is a lot better than I would have thought it would be coming from a cell phone.

Is it a sports stadium or music stadium?
@michaelherring1944
@michaelherring1944 6 лет назад
It is a multipurpose arena built in the 20s for conventions, trade shows, concerts, rodeos, car racing, football, motion pictures (silents), etc. The inclusion of a pipe organ was typical of all entertainment venues of the time (e.g., movie theatres, town halls) and had to be huge to fill such a big place. At the time of its construction the arena was the largest free open space in the world, seating 41,000, had the largest stage in the world, and ended up with the largest pipe organ in the world - the Midmer-Losh - speaking from eight different chambers situated around the arena and in the ceiling. There is also a Kimball organ in the ballroom of the hall (originally seating 5,000). I believe the Kimball in the ballroom might be the largest theatre organ ever built. Not sure about that one, but I hope I answered your question.

You can definitely pick out where he's "cheating" because certain parts of the organ still don't function LOL

That's a huge compliment to Scott's artistic ingenuity - sounds really good for an organ that's only partially functional so far.
