STARGATE fans know just how different the final two seasons of the long-running show were. There were major cast changes, and with Earth's enemies defeated the writers introduced a brand new antagonist to carry the show forward: the ORI. It was almost like an entirely new show.
In fact that was the plan -- or at least the idea was seriously considered, as executive producer Joseph Mallozzi explains here to "Dial the Gate." In addition to the cast and creative changes, there were also certain business reasons why it would be advantageous to rebrand the show as STARGATE COMMAND and restart with Season 1. Of course that's not ultimately what happened ... and Mallozzi says that this decision might have factored into the show's cancellation two years later.
